A five-time Grammy winner and one of the most sought-after roots musicians of her generation, Cashdollar is a master of dobro, lap steel and steel guitar whose playing can add fire to a blues tune, sweetness to a ballad, swing to a country song and something entirely her own to just about anything she touches.
Her musical story began in Woodstock, NY, where she came up in the extraordinary community surrounding artists like Levon Helm and Rick Danko, playing with local greats including John Herald, Paul Butterfield and Happy & Artie Traum. A move to Nashville led to nine years with Western Swing giants Asleep at the Wheel, five Grammy Awards and collaborations with Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Dolly Parton and Lyle Lovett. Since then, everyone from Bob Dylan and Van Morrison to Rod Stewart, Jorma Kaukonen, John Sebastian and Peter Rowan has called on Cashdollar to bring her unmistakable sound to their music.
She was also the first woman inducted into the Texas Steel Guitar Hall of Fame, and in 2022 the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum honored her as one of its “Nashville Cats,” recognizing the musicians whose playing has helped shape countless recordings and performances.
For Two Many Guitars, Cashdollar joins guitarist Jack Petruzzelli for a trip through a century of music, moving from the jazz of Django Reinhardt, Thelonious Monk and Hoagy Carmichael to the roots music of Chet Atkins, Lonnie Johnson and beyond.
Petruzzelli brings a formidable musical history of his own. A multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and Grammy-nominated producer, he has worked with Patti Smith, Ian Hunter, Joan Osborne and Rufus Wainwright and is a founding member of acclaimed Beatles tribute band The Fab Faux.
And for this Caffè Lena show, they’re bringing a full band: Karl Allweier on bass and vocals, Will Bryant on piano and vocals, and Justin Guip on drums.
Expect Western Swing, jazz, blues, country and roots music to rub shoulders, with plenty of room for five exceptional musicians to stretch out, trade ideas and follow the music wherever it wants to go.
