After living her early adulthood in New York City and South Florida, Johanna Martin returned to her native Upstate New York in 2016 and calls Saratoga Springs home. She was introduced to storytelling after meeting Jeannine Laverty, one of the hosts of our very own Open Mic Storytelling night here at Caffè Lena. She discovered it was a perfect way to combine her love of writing and public speaking. She has been invited to participate in local storytelling shows and competed in the Adirondack Center for Writing & North Country Public Radio’s HOWL Story Slam multiple times, winning the Grand Slam title in 2024. Through storytelling Johanna uses humor and honesty to illuminate meaning and understanding in her own life, while at the same time she seeks to uncover that which unites us all.
