Sawyer Fredericks

Singer Songwriter

Sawyer-toga has become a Memorial Day Weekend tradition at Caffè Lena. Every year, Sawyer Fredericks comes back. Every year, audiences come from near and far to see him. And for the past four years, these shows have sold out. We’re delighted to welcome Sawyer back for two more Sawyer-toga shows, and if history is any indication, you won’t want to wait too long to get your tickets.

Raised on a farm in central New York, Fredericks began performing at farmers markets, open mics and some of New York’s most storied venues when he was just 13. His deep, soulful voice, introspective songwriting and strikingly assured performances soon brought him to a much larger audience when he won Season 8 of NBC’s The Voice.

But winning The Voice was only one chapter in a musical life that has continued to evolve very much on Sawyer’s own terms.

After releasing his major-label debut, A Good Storm, with Republic Records, Fredericks chose independence. His 2018 album Hide Your Ghost, which he wrote and produced himself, stripped away the major-label polish and returned the focus to what had drawn listeners to him in the first place: the songs, the voice and an artist determined to follow his own instincts.

His 2020 album Flowers For You earned premieres from PeopleAmerican Songwriter and Billboard, while two of its songs received top honors from the Independent Music Awards. “Born” found an audience on SiriusXM’s Coffee House channel and Amazon Music’s Fresh Folk and Americana playlist.

Fredericks continued exploring new musical territory with 2023’s The Golden Tree EP, featuring his band along with Sav Buist and Katie Larson of The Accidentals, and a 2024 collaboration with fellow Upstate New York artist Cassandra Kubinski on “Burn It Down.”

His latest album, No Need To Wonder, released on Earth Day 2025, turns his attention toward the natural world and our relationship with it. He supported the album with full-band and solo touring, including performances at City Winery and a West Coast run.

Through all of that growth, Caffè Lena has remained a place Sawyer returns to year after year. There’s something special about hearing an artist with this much history in a room this intimate, surrounded by people who have watched his music grow and change over the years. For some, Sawyer-toga has become an annual reunion. For others, this will be the first time hearing that remarkable voice from just a few feet away. Either way, we look forward to welcoming you in.

Sawyer-toga is back at Caffè Lena, and remember: the last four years have sold out.
