Celebrating 35 years in 2027 with a brand-new album, Old Blind Dogs remain one of Scotland’s most enduring and exciting folk bands.
Formed in Aberdeen in 1992, the band emerged from Scotland’s thriving folk scene with a mission to bring the songs and tunes of the country’s Northeast to audiences around the world. More than three decades later, they’ve become a cornerstone of the Scottish folk revival, known for a sound that is unmistakably rooted in tradition while never standing still.
Soaring fiddle, stirring vocals, cittern and guitar, dynamic percussion and the unmistakable power of the Great Highland bagpipes come together in music filled with driving rhythms, beautiful melodies and the energy of four musicians who know how to make traditional music feel completely alive in the moment.
The current lineup features original member Jonny Hardie on fiddle and vocals, Aaron Jones on cittern, guitar and vocals, Donald Hay on percussion and vocals, and former Battlefield Band piper Mike Katz on pipes and whistles. Together, they bring decades of experience at the highest levels of Scottish traditional music, and formidable chemistry, to the stage.
Inducted into the Scottish Traditional Music Hall of Fame, Old Blind Dogs have spent their career taking Scottish music around the world while continuing to explore what the tradition can become. Their acclaimed recordings include Knucklehead Circus, and in 2027 they arrive at Caffè Lena celebrating their 35th anniversary with a brand-new album.
After 35 years, Old Blind Dogs aren't simply preserving Scottish folk music. They're still playing with it, pushing it forward and reminding audiences why these centuries-old sounds remain so thrilling.
