Since their founding in 1985, this GRAMMY®-nominated ensemble has helped redefine what Irish traditional music can be—forging a powerful path for women in a historically male-dominated genre while earning the admiration of audiences and critics alike. Led by flute and whistle virtuoso Joanie Madden, a recipient of the National Endowment for the Arts National Heritage Award, Cherish the Ladies showcases an extraordinary mix of virtuosic instrumentalists, beautiful vocalists, engaging arrangements, and dynamic step dancing. Over the years, Cherish the Ladies has released 18 critically acclaimed albums and performed thousands of concerts worldwide—from prestigious concert halls and international festivals to the Olympics and the White House. Their collaborations read like a who’s who of American and Irish music, including the Boston Pops Symphony, The Chieftains, Pete Seeger, Arlo Guthrie, Vince Gill, Nanci Griffith, and The Clancy Brothers & Tommy Makem. They have also performed more than 300 nights with leading symphony orchestras, earning their reputation as the most celebrated Celtic Pops act in history.
