Grammy-winner Paula Cole combines genres in an iconic and autobiographical voice, relying equally on dreamy melodies and poetic, introspective lyrics.
Her tenth album, Revolution (2019), fulfills the promise of her 1994 debut, Harbinger, which broke the silence of generations of women, giving voice to those left behind by history. Between these bookends lies an impressive string of accomplishments: a double-platinum second album, This Fire; her hit singles “Where Have All the Cowboys Gone” and “I Don’t Want To Wait”; her Best New Artist Grammy and an additional six Grammy nominations; and becoming a Grammy-nominated producer and founder of her own 675 record label.
With Revolution, Cole tells a story of those sidelined by gender, age, and race and speaks out for those who have been silenced. These songs explore familial and personal wounds and tell important, and sometimes terrible, truths. Cole feels as if she owes that kind of honesty to her audiences. In showing who she is, she allows us to see ourselves more clearly.
