This course will provide an introduction to playing the Irish frame drum, the Bodhrán. We will learn techniques and rhythms, focusing on playing the bodhrán as accompaniment to traditional Irish dance tunes. This drum is also a lot of fun to play with any type of music, so the class will build a foundation for you to bring rhythms on the bodhrán wherever you are most excited to play them.

Class will meet for 75 minutes

The instructor maintains the right to cancel or postpone if minimum enrollment of four (4) students is not met. So bring your friends!

Songwriting is a craft – and  an art. There are moments of inspiration: when a song seems to be delivered into our ear and all we have to do is write it down. And then there is the rest of the time: when we need  tools and some knowledge of how to use them. This workshop will be a hands-on exploration of the tools we can use to build an effective vehicle for the song inside us. We will each write two songs during our time together. Each week Cosy will talk about some of the ways she’s found to write a song on the days she’s not feeling anything and on the days she’s feeling too much.  We will have in-class exercises. We might go off and write for 15 minutes and then come back and share it with the group. Bring your instrument and paper and a pen.

In this workshop we will move our bodies, soften our hearts, open our mouths and let our voices out to play. We will be spending time together in the energy of learning all about how our instrument works and what it is that we can do with it!

With an emphasis on vocal health and self-care, we’ll use a combination of vocal warm-ups and work-outs – traditional and non-traditional – to help relax, release and strengthen the voice, making it more flexible and reliable.
