SUMMARY:Girl Love - EP Release Party w/ opener Dustin Lowman : An Overit Home Grown Show
DESCRIPTION:American Roots Folk Singer Songwriter \n\n \n Share:\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	Girl Love is the solo folk project of poet and songwriter Laura Beth Johnson\, an award-winning artist based in Upstate New York. Known for her dark blend of story and soul\, Laura creates music that affirms queer holiness through haunting melodies\, brash vocals\, and deeply personal storytelling. Winner of The Folk Project’s New Jersey Songwriter’s Contest\, Laura has been recognized with songwriting and poetry scholarships from Image Magazine\, Hudson Valley Writers Guild\, and Music Masters Collective. Her spoken word piece “Crazy and Special” earned the Lucy Monroe Brooker Poetry Prize in 2017\, and in 2024 she was selected as one of ten Capital Region songwriters for the INK Songwriter’s Retreat by SongCity of Troy. Her debut indie-folk album The Sorrow Estate introduced her as a fearless new voice\, and her 2023 sophomore release Girl Love was celebrated with a sold-out show right here at Caffè Lena. Along the way\, she shared the stage with Mary Gauthier\, Laurie MacAllister of Red Molly\, and Sawyer Fredericks. This show is an EP Release Party for "Holy Now\," Girl Love's new record. The three-song EP Holy Now offers a bold and tender exploration of queer identity\, protest\, and radical love. Each track contributes to Girl Love’s mission of affirming queer holiness and uplifting LGBTQ+ stories. With Holy Now\, Girl Love weaves together defiance\, joy\, and reverence—reimagining holiness through a queer lens. SAMPLE SONG Opening for Girl Love is Brooklyn-based songwriter Dustin Lowman crafts lyric-driven songs that deconstruct the nonsense of everyday life. His self-taught blend of voice\, guitar\, and harmonica draws inspiration from troubadours like Bob Dylan\, Leonard Cohen\, Aimee Mann\, and Adrianne Lenker\, offering music that’s equal parts poignant and playfully absurd. Dustin has shared stages with Marcellus Hall\, Will Dailey\, and Ira Wolf\, and hosts His Back Pages\, a Bob Dylan deep-cut series at Café Wha? in NYC’s West Village. With songs that straddle comedy and tragedy—like the darkly hopeful “Bankrupt & Crucified”—he’s been praised by Livingston Taylor as “the next real thing.” SAMPLE SONG Expect a night of music that’s raw\, poetic\, and unflinchingly authentic—songs that don’t just entertain\, but also invite us into deeper reflection and connection. Overit Home Grown Sessions is made possible by a generous gift from Overit – a full-service marketing and creative agency based in Upstate New York. Stream this show live at CaffeLenaTV. SUMMARY:65th Anniversary Folk Heritage Series: The Kennedys Rockin' Holiday Show
DESCRIPTION:American Roots Folk Singer Songwriter \n\n \n Share:\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	Vocalists/guitarists Pete and Maura Kennedy\, a husband and wife duo\, first met when Pete was playing guitar in Nanci Griffith’s Blue Moon Orchestra. When Maura replaced Iris DeMent as a harmony singer on a Griffith tour\, they found themselves in the same band\, and opened shows for Griffith as a duo. The Kennedys hosted the late lamented Dharma Café program on Sirius satellite radio\, and on Broadway\, they are regular cast members of Theatre Within’s annual tribute to John Lennon – working in that capacity with Patti Smith\, Debbie Harry\, Jackson Browne\, Cyndi Lauper and a host of others.  Multi-instrumentalists known for their harmonies and blend of folk\, rock\, bluegrass\, country and pop\, The Kennedys have written uplifting\, evocative original tunes\, and have put their imprint on a broad range of covers. They sing about love\, loss\, trust\, caretaking\, the environment and social consciousness. “The operative word for us when we write lyrics is ‘compassion\,’” said Pete Kennedy. “We do believe that music can heal and\, as songwriters\, we feel a responsibility to use the craft to lift spirits and encourage. There are certainly other schools of artistic thought\, but that’s the one we practice.” The pair mix passionate songwriting with a flair for entertainment and a repertoire of classic songs. Think of a song by Buddy Holly\, the Everly Brothers or the Beatles\, and that smile on your face is the same smile you’ll be wearing when The Kennedys hit the stage. SAMPLE SONG  For this show\, Pete and Maura ring in the holiday season with an evening of good vibe tunes celebrating Winter\, the season of renewal and regeneration. Sway and sing the snowy night away to cold weather classics\, Ronnettes rockers and a Fab Four singalong. Way more fun than an office party! SUMMARY:Ellis Paul
DESCRIPTION:American Roots Folk Singer Songwriter \n\n \n Share:\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	For over three decades\, Ellis Paul has been one of the defining voices of contemporary folk music—an acclaimed singer-songwriter whose vivid lyrics and heartfelt performances carry forward the storytelling tradition of Woody Guthrie and the Boston folk scene. Born in Maine and shaped by the coffeehouse circuit of 1990s New England\, Ellis quickly emerged alongside peers like Dar Williams\, Patty Griffin\, and Martin Sexton. His early albums Stories and A Carnival of Voices announced a songwriter of uncommon depth\, and his career since has only reinforced that promise. With over 20 albums\, countless awards\, and song placements in films and TV\, Ellis blends personal reflection\, cultural insight\, and poetic storytelling with humor\, grace\, and depth. His latest album\, written during the pandemic while facing a hand condition that threatened his ability to play\, 55 captures resilience\, gratitude\, and the joy of still making music. Songs like “Holy” and “When Angels Fall” grapple with loss and fragility\, while “Cosmos” and “The Gift” shine with love and hope. With nods to his Beatles inspiration and collaborations with Laurie MacAllister\, Abbie Gardner\, and Seth Glier\, Ellis delivers an album—and a performance—brimming with honesty and life. Beyond his music\, Ellis is also a poet\, illustrator\, children’s book author\, and mentor to new songwriters. His songs have appeared in films\, TV\, and tribute concerts\, and he continues to inspire legions of fans who each carry a favorite Ellis Paul song close to their hearts.
