SUMMARY:An Evening with Kate Taylor
DESCRIPTION:Folk Global Singer Songwriter \n\n \n Share:\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	If you haven’t heard much from Kate Taylor\, of the renowned Martha’s Vineyard via North Carolina musical clan that includes brothers James\, Livingston\, Alex and Hugh\, in the last half century\, it’s because she gave up the rock life nearly as quickly as she started it\, moving to Martha’s Vineyard where she married and raised her two children. They spent summers living in a tepee\, later made jewelry from quahog shells and dug for scallops to earn a living\, and lived a life out of the public eye.  A spark for a new album was ignited at Kate’s 70th birthday party when her agent brought up the fact that the key players who appeared on 1971’s Sister Kate\, including music veteran Peter Asher\, are still around and very active. Asher liked the idea and Kate was instantly on board\, writing the title track and assembling a group of songs complemented by her bluesy\, lived-in voice. Brother James commented: “For Kate to be doing this with Peter\, and that both of them have this life experience that brings them back together\, it’s really a moving thing. I think it’s so great that Kate will have this next iteration\, you know\, this next chance for people to hear her and pick up on her.” Kate Taylor’s return from a long hiatus of making music and touring “basks in a radiant glow that finds Taylor as effusive and excited as a teen releasing a first record” according to American Songwriter. The opening track of her latest release Why Wait! – years after debut Sister Kate – is a funkified take on the Beatles’ “Good Day Sunshine\,” a fitting decree for a new era of making music.  SAMPLE SONG She shouts out “Good morning\, world!” which seems both a re-awakening\, and a luminous proclamation that Taylor has returned. Rolling Stone notes: “Fifty years ago\, James Taylor’s sister released her debut album\, then promptly vanished from the scene. Now\, decades after she traded rock stardom for life in a teepee\, Kate Taylor is back.” Stream this show live at Caffè Lena TV. SUMMARY:Dan Navarro with opener Jesse Lynn Madera
DESCRIPTION:American Roots Folk Singer Songwriter \n\n \n Share:\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	With a career spanning decades\, Dan Navarro is perhaps best known as songwriter for artists as diverse as Jackson Browne\, Keb’ Mo’ and Pat Benatar (Grammy-nominated classic “We Belong”). In effect\, Navarro creates his own musical mantra\, one that focuses on maintaining a positive perspective and overriding optimism. It leaves an indelible impression and elevates the emotional imprint overall.” – Lee Zimmerman\, American Songwriter SAMPLE SONG Opening the night is Jesse Lynn Madera\, a genre-blending singer-songwriter praised for her passionate\, piano-driven songs and evocative lyrics. Her latest album\, Speed of Sound\, produced with Navarro and Grammy-winning collaborators\, marks her most compelling work yet. “Madera’s lyrical and piano-driven songs are passionate and alluring\, with a dramatic\, ethereal\, and almost other-worldly tone.” ~ American Songwriter SAMPLE SONG With Navarro’s seasoned storytelling and Madera’s rising\, ethereal voice\, it’s an evening of song that spans generations and speaks to the soul. SUMMARY:Momentum Series: Michael McDermott
DESCRIPTION:American Roots Folk Singer Songwriter \n\n \n Share:\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	Chicago singer-songwriter Michael McDermott has always lived in dualities—poet and rocker\, confessor and storyteller\, survivor and dreamer. This fall\, he embraces that balance fully with an unprecedented achievement: the simultaneous release of two full-length albums—Lighthouse on the Shore (acoustic) and East Jesus (electric)—on September 13th. McDermott’s music brims with hard-earned wisdom and unflinching honesty. From the quiet melancholy and lyrical grace of Lighthouse on the Shore to the raw\, anthemic power of East Jesus\, these companion albums reveal the two sides of an artist who grew up on both Woody Guthrie and The Rolling Stones\, Tom Waits and U2. They are songs of survival\, sobriety\, love\, and redemption—deeply personal yet universally resonant. He effortlessly blends natural folk sensibility\, pop hooks\, and honest rock. With a career spanning more than three decades\, McDermott has been hailed as one of America’s most under-recognized songwriting talents. His work has drawn comparisons to Bruce Springsteen\, Van Morrison\, and Patti Smith\, and earned the admiration of Stephen King\, who once called him “possibly the greatest undiscovered rock & roll talent of the last 20 years.” Onstage\, McDermott’s blend of folk intimacy\, rock urgency\, and Irish South Side grit makes for an unforgettable night of music. Whether whispering tender ballads or belting full-throttle rockers\, he delivers songs that feel like late-night confessions and timeless anthems all at once. McDermott’s inspirational rock is waiting late night with a guitar\, spare smokes and stories of the American heart. SAMPLE SONG The Momentum Series features high energy music–solo or band. These are typically more shows that infuse the room with crackling energy rather than featuring solo acoustic performers. Many\, but not all\, of the monthly Momentum artists are playing our venue for the first time. The Momentum Series is Made possible by the generous support of Joseph & Luann Conlon\, in honor of Thom O'Neil. Stream this show live at Caffè Lena TV. Her music feels like a collection of postcards—snapshots from a life lived bravely on the road less traveled. Launching her career at just 15\, Reardon has spent more than a decade writing\, recording\, and performing across the globe. With 4 studio albums\, 7 EPs\, a live album\, and over 85 original songs\, her body of work has earned millions of streams and critical praise for its lyrical depth and soulful delivery. Her songs have been described as “brilliantly moving folk/pop with a lyrical depth and soul” (Performer Magazine) and “a melancholy little masterpiece” (American Songwriter). No Depression calls her “truly a treasure.” Reardon has shared the stage with some of the most respected voices in music—Lori McKenna\, Rodney Crowell\, Dar Williams\, Anaïs Mitchell\, Xavier Rudd\, John Paul White\, Rachel Platten\, and most recently\, Ed Sheeran\, who invited her to perform at his Old Phone Pub pop-up in Massachusetts. A seasoned touring artist\, Reardon has played nearly 300 shows across Europe and held a six-month residency in Dachau\, Germany. She’s also built a creative home in Barcelona\, recording with Catalan collaborators Aniol Bestit\, Pau Figueres\, and Arnau Figueres. Her 2023 EP Changes even features a bilingual duet with acclaimed Catalan singer-songwriter Judit Neddermann. Back in the Northeast\, she frequently collaborates with beloved songwriters Heather Maloney\, Antje Duvekot\, and Seth Glier. Her newest album\, After Everything (2024)\, showcases her ever-deepening artistry and gift for intimate\, emotionally resonant songwriting. Hayley Reardon SAMPLE SONG With a voice that holds both fragility and strength\, and songs that open doors to empathy and reflection\, Hayley Reardon has become one of the most compelling voices in today’s folk scene. Opening for Hayley is Emily Barnes\, a contemporary folk singer-songwriter known for her haunting voice and vividly drawn characters. Hailing from the tiny town of Johnsonburg\, NJ\, she’s built a grassroots following through heartfelt performances and honest storytelling. With four albums to her name—including her latest\, Mint Condition\, which led to a sold-out Northeast tour—Barnes has also been a finalist in prestigious songwriting contests like the Kerrville Folk Festival\, Red Lodge Songwriters Festival\, and Acorn Song Contest. Her music invites listeners into a world where every lyric tells a story. Emily Barnes SAMPLE SONG Can't make it to the show in person? Stream this show live at Caffè Lena TV. What began in 1989 with a year of busking on the streets of Dublin and hitchhiking to whatever gig he could find has grown into a remarkable career spanning 20 albums\, thousands of performances\, and collaborations with some of folk’s most respected voices. From his early days in Midwest bars and Boston coffeehouses to national stages opening for Ani DiFranco\, Emmylou Harris\, Greg Brown\, and Chuck Prophet\, Mulvey has always followed his instinct for the eclectic and the essential. Along the way\, he has given a TEDx talk\, published an illustrated book\, and become a beloved fixture at festivals\, on NPR\, and at the National Youth Science Camp\, where he’s shared music with generations of young minds. Mulvey’s annual autumn bicycle tour epitomizes his creative spirit—merging music\, community\, and sustainability—while his long-running Lamplighter Sessions bring together artists in Boston and Wisconsin for nights of collaboration and discovery. With each new project\, he deepens his reputation as a songwriter of rare insight and a performer who connects instantly with audiences. Come be part of a Capital District must-see event\, where the best of the best take the stage before the world catches on. The artists for the 11/26 show are Jacob Shipley\, Rob Fleming\, Maddie Gallagher and of course\, Erin! SAMPLE SONG  ARTIST BIOS: Jacob Shipley Bio: Shit happens. Jacob Shipley writes not-so-sad-anymore acoustic folk-rock for those who forgave\, but find some masochistic joy in remembering. With a voice that is raw\, powerful\, and emotive\, he shares stories from his own emotionally complicated life with humor and a knowing smile that only hindsight can bring. Jacob gives his live audiences the space to commiserate and laugh through the pain\, sorrow\, and embarrassments they’ve experienced. He performs as a solo musician or with a backing band. Recorded and produced in their Brooklyn apartment\, Jacob’s third EP Getting Older brings them back to their acoustic roots. It opens with an ironic take on aging from a 25 year old who just found their first gray hair\, inappropriately titled ‘Older.’ From there\, the EP lands on ‘Kitchen Floor’ — a deeply personal love song for those struggling with anxious attachment styles. Next falls ‘Death of Me\,’ a rousing invitation to revel in autumn’s decay. With a sobering look at love lost\, ‘Kitchen Floor II’ brings us back to the depths of despair\, while ‘The Painter’ is an ode to artist Fred Terna\, a sage old friend who passed in 2022. Getting Older ends with ‘If a Robot Takes My Job\,’ a sardonic and silly song about AI\, not written with the help of ChatGPT.  Jacob’s music can be caught on radio throughout the Northeast US and they have been seen and heard at historic venues such as Caffe Lena\, The Troy Savings Bank Music Hall\, and the late Rockwood Music Hall. Jacob starred as John Newton in the first national tour of “Amazing Grace: the Musical” and was featured in the first actor-musician production of “Godspell." Rob Fleming Bio: For the Upstate NY-based singer & songwriter Rob Fleming\, RHOSEWAY is the given name of a creative solo project\, a truth-telling reflection\, and an artistic reaction to the choice to play music at all from years as a writer and performer in other projects. It's an act of free expression through melody\, progression\, sounds\, and words that are based on feel. The music comes from a renewed perspective to create something from nothing. The music finds its place as effectually layered dynamic and melodic droning\, in the form of indie-alternative rock. Riding on three separate two track singles\, the latest being the harmonious alt-folk leanings of 2024's SUMMER RUN\, and up-tempo guitar flourishing of 2023's CLOAK & DAGGER. Full length record "RHOSEWAY" released July ‘24 brings all works remixed and remastered as a full album release\, with the inclusion of two additional tracks SUMMER RUN\, and ROOTS & ROPE. Early 2025's single release of DEAD TO ME is an alt-folk storyteller in a synth sonic landscape. Maddie Gallagher Bio: Maddie Gallagher is a pop singer-songwriter\, instrumentalist\, and producer who blends acoustic folk elements and found natural sounds with pop production and synthesized sounds. She is a junior at SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Music studying Studio Composition. In this performance\, she will be playing original material that will be released on her upcoming record to be released in 2026!
