SUMMARY:Forget Everything You Know and Remember All the Things You Are
DESCRIPTION:American Roots Bluegrass Folk \n\n \n Share:\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n\n\n\n\nForget Everything You Know and Remember All the Things You Are \nA two-evening creative practice gathering with Sarah K. Pedinotti (Lip Talk) \nNovember 4th and 11th \n6 pm – 7 pm \n$40 \nIn a culture that asks us to be optimized and productive\, we often lose touch with the parts of ourselves that exist simply to experience\, to wonder\, and to play. This two-evening gathering is a space for creative reclamation: a place to step out of a "role" and back into the rhythm of your own humanity. \nThis is not a course about mastering a skill; it's a practice of being. Rather than focusing on the finished product\, we turn our attention to the process: the texture of a sound\, the weight of a found object\, the breath in the body\, and the space between us. We explore the tension between intention and surrender\, learning how to allow creativity to move through us without the need to make it useful or perfect. \nYou are invited to bring whatever tools or inclinations you already possess: a musical instrument\, a visual or writing practice\, a love of movement\, or simply your own curious attention. Whether you consider yourself an artist or not\, the work is not about what you make; it's about who you remember you are. \nWhat we'll actually do: \nEach evening follows the same rhythm\, listen\, play\, make\, share\, so that the structure itself becomes a practice you can carry home. Sessions are one hour: short and focused. No experience with music or improvisation is required. \nEvening 1\, Listening\, laughter\, and letting go. We begin where all improvisation begins: the ear. We'll practice sonic meditations in the tradition of Pauline Oliveros' Deep Listening\, listening to the room\, to the sounds between sounds\, to our own thoughts\, as we get acquainted and settle in as a group. From there\, we play: call-and-response games and a theater game in the lineage of Viola Spolin\, chosen to make you laugh before you have time to worry about doing it right. Laughter is a release from self-surveillance; it loosens the grip of the inner critic before we ever have to argue with it. Improvisation is about listening and presence. You'll leave with a short listening practice to do at home\, and a prompt to sit with until we meet again. \nEvening 2\, The gift of the wrong note\, and the ensemble. Our second gathering is devoted to the inner critic\, the voice that says you're doing it wrong\, that you should be further along. Through improv exercises where the "mistake" becomes the material\, we practice noticing the critic without obeying it. Then we make something together in real time\, a collective piece built from conduction-style cues in the spirit of Butch Morris\, where each person's contribution\, however small\, shapes the whole. We'll end by designing a tiny daily practice for each participant to take home: your own personal portal back to the muse. \nWhat to expect \n• Short guided listening practices each session \n• Playful\, structured prompts\, always with the option to participate in your own medium \n• Group conversation and reflection \n• A take-home practice and prompt each evening\, building toward a personal creative ritual \n• No homework in the usual sense\, only invitations \nWhat to bring \nYourself\, exactly as you are. Optionally: a notebook\, whatever tool of your practice you love (instrument\, sketchbook\, camera\, nothing at all). Found materials are provided. \nBio \nSarah K. Pedinotti is a multidisciplinary musician\, producer\, and storyteller based in Brooklyn\, New York. Under the moniker Lip Talk\, she creates music that blurs boundaries between song\, art\, and improvisation. She co-runs Snack Mix\, an ongoing improvisation residency in NYC that brings together a rotating cast of musicians for spontaneous\, exploratory performance. Her multimedia installation\, Mantis Shrimp Matrix\, premiered in Bangkok and Tokyo and most recently traveled to Saratoga Springs for its U.S. debut. Over the past twenty years\, she has produced\, performed\, and recorded across a wide spectrum of styles. She is an artist in residence at Yaddo this year. \nOriginally from New York's Capital Region\, Sarah began performing at local venues including Caffè Lena\, where her love of live improvisation first took root. Her work invites audiences and students alike into a spirit of deep listening\, play\, and creative freedom. \nInfluences and Inspirations \n• Pauline Oliveros — The practice of Deep Listening and expanding perception. \n• Nuar Alsadir — The concept of Animal Joy and laughter as a release from self-surveillance. \n• Viola Spolin — Theater games and the freeing power of play. \n• adrienne maree brown — The principles of emergent strategy and revolutionary love. \n• Ross Gay — The cultivation of joy through radical noticing. \n• Yoko Ono — The power of participatory\, instructional\, and relational art. \n• Yumi Sakugawa — Meditation comics and gentle daily rituals that make creativity feel like care. \n• Robin Wall Kimmerer — The wisdom of reciprocity and our relationship with the material world. \n• Butch Morris — Collective\, real-time composition through conduction. \n#adultclass \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n	\n Doors Open\n Doors Open: 6:30 pm	\n \n	\n	\n \n Price\n \n Member\n $23.86\n \n \n \n \n \n General\n $27.11\n \n \n \n \n \n Child or Student\n $13.56\n \n \n \n				 \n inclusive of fees\n \n \n \n	\n \n Get Tickets \n \n Streaming\n \n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Similar Events\n \n View All\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Folk Heritage Series: Richard Shindell\n\n American Roots Folk Singer Songwriter\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n Sold Out \n\n \n Oct 11 • 7 PM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Marty Wendell & Laura Leigh Band\n\n American Roots Country Folk Singer Songwriter\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Oct 16 • 8 PM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Jake Blount Band\n\n Folk\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Oct 17 • 8 PM

We sometimes refer to our genre as eclectic acoustic. \nRed Spruce and Adirondack Song Dogs will kick off each session with a few tunes then open the floor for musicians to lead their favorite bluegrass tunes and folk music\, backed up by the other pickers in the gathering. Simple tunes are always popular! So sharpen up your axe\, come prepared with your song\, and let us hear some good old fast\, high and lonesome\, some slow and low\, or a good old favorite. All are welcome! \nWhat is a Slow Jam? \nIt is a group of string instrument players and singers who get together to have fun making music. The “slow” modifier indicates that it is targeted to the following musicians: people who have been playing solo and want to get used to playing in a group setting: people who have just learned how to play and want to play with others; people who have instruments that have been gathering dust for a “few” years; experienced players who are trying out playing instruments other than their primary instrument; people who are comfortable playing their instrument but want to become more comfortable singing/leading a song.. The tunes are played at 80 to 110 BPM and usually in basic keys such a G\, A\, D\, C major\, but it always sounds great to play in some minor keys such as “a”\, “e”\, and “g”. We will try to avoid “jam busters.” It is our hope that after this experience you will feel more comfortable playing at the many open jams and open mics that can be found in our area. \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n	\n Doors Open\n Doors Open: 6:30 pm	\n \n	\n	\n \n Price\n \n Member\n $23.86\n \n \n \n \n \n General\n $27.11\n \n \n \n \n \n Child or Student\n $13.56\n \n \n \n				 \n inclusive of fees\n \n \n \n	\n \n Get Tickets \n \n Streaming\n \n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Similar Events\n \n View All\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Folk Heritage Series: Richard Shindell\n\n American Roots Folk Singer Songwriter\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n Sold Out \n\n \n Oct 11 • 7 PM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Marty Wendell & Laura Leigh Band\n\n American Roots Country Folk Singer Songwriter\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Oct 16 • 8 PM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Jake Blount Band\n\n Folk\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Oct 17 • 8 PM

SUMMARY:Maya de Vitry
DESCRIPTION:Folk \n\n \n Share:\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n\n\n\n\nThere is a quiet power in Maya de Vitry's music. Her songs invite listeners to slow down\, pay attention\, and rediscover the beauty and complexity of everyday life. \nOriginally from the green rolling hills of Lancaster County\, Pennsylvania\, Maya de Vitry is a Nashville-based fiddler-turned-songwriter with a voice that glides effortlessly between tenderness and strength.  \nA founding member of the acclaimed Americana trio The Stray Birds\,  with whom she toured year-round for 7 years throughout the USA\, Canada\, and Europe.  Since then\, she has released three more full-length albums—How to Break a Fall (2020)\, Violet Light (2022)\, and The Only Moment (2024); an EP\, Infinite (2023); and multiple singles\, all of which are testaments to her personal reinvention and creative growth.  \nMaya has emerged as one of today's most compelling singer-songwriters\, earning praise from Rolling Stone Country\, NPR Music\, and No Depression. Her music blends the intimacy of folk\, the soul of Americana\, and the adventurous spirit of indie songwriting\, offering songs that feel grounded\, graceful\, and full of possibility all at once. \nEnergized by the spontaneity of live performance and a revelatory pursuit of truth in her lyric writing\, Maya de Vitry returns with her fifth full-length album\, All My Faith. Prioritizing presence and grit over studio polish\, she sounds joyously at home in the alt-country and indie-folk realms. Recorded and mixed by 5-time Grammy Award-winning engineer Sean Sullivan and self-produced by de Vitry\, All My Faith is a buoyant gathering of songs brought to life by a cast of her closest confidantes and collaborators. All My Faith will be released on de Vitry’s own Mad Maker Studio label on July 24\, 2026. \nSAMPLE SONG  \n“I’d like my music to feel like you are invited into a lush living forest or into a remote river canyon where suddenly you are stripped of not only modern conveniences but also modern distractions. Where you can feel the essence of your own humanity and those around you. Where suddenly a stranger’s story becomes interesting\, or where you might choose teamwork and problem-solving and creativity over dogma. Where reciprocity and care start to feel more natural than just about anything else\,” she reflects. \nWhether reflecting on unexpected encounters\, moments of self-discovery\, or the landscapes that shape us\, Maya writes with remarkable clarity\, compassion\, and emotional depth. \nFrom canyons to kitchens\, from cold lakes to highway truck stops\, the songs form a vibrant collage of joy\, sorrow\, and gut-wrenching honesty. Whether spinning an inspirational tale about hungover bachelorettes at the Nashville airport or exploring the prison of our own adaptations\, de Vitry brings a grounded confidence and quiet charisma rooted in her belief in the power of song to change us. \nA gifted vocalist and instrumentalist\, Maya's performances are intimate without being understated. Her expressive voice\, thoughtful storytelling\, and graceful musicianship create the feeling of being welcomed into a conversation with an old friend. \nJoin us for an evening with one of Americana's brightest voices as Maya de Vitry shares songs that celebrate resilience\, curiosity\, and the enduring power of finding beauty in the present moment. \nStream this show live at Caffè Lena TV. His topical sports songs are regularly featured on “The Tony Kornheiser Show.” AllMusic praises Bern\, saying his “acerbic wit and surprising poignancy will pull you back time and time again\,” while NPR states: “With his acoustic guitar and a batch of witty and insightful songs\, Dan Bern is rapidly becoming the voice of a new generation of folk music.” \nSAMPLE SONG \nThe Little Folks Series is made possible by the generous. support of Kevin & Claudia Bright. \nHelpful for parents\nLittle Folks shows are designed for young children and their caregivers\, with a relaxed\, joyful atmosphere where wiggles\, dancing\, and singing are always welcome. \nAdmission is FREE\, we just ask you to please register for tickets so we know how many people to expect!   \n \n \n\n\n\n\n	\n Doors Open\n Doors Open: 7:30 pm	\n \n	\n	\n \n Price\n \n Member\n $24.94\n \n \n \n \n \n General\n $27.11\n \n \n \n \n \n Child or Student\n $13.56\n \n \n \n				 \n inclusive of fees\n \n \n \n	\n \n Get Tickets \n \n Streaming\n \n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Similar Events\n \n View All\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Folk Heritage Series: Richard Shindell\n\n American Roots Folk Singer Songwriter\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n Sold Out \n\n \n Oct 11 • 7 PM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Marty Wendell & Laura Leigh Band\n\n American Roots Country Folk Singer Songwriter\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Oct 16 • 8 PM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Bob & Sarah Amos\n\n American Roots Bluegrass Folk\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Oct 22 • 7 PM

SUMMARY:Dan Bern
DESCRIPTION:American Roots Bluegrass Folk \n\n \n Share:\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n\n\n\n\nTrying to put Dan Bern in a musical box has never worked particularly well. Folk\, rock\, pop\, punk\, protest song\, comedy and sharp-eyed social commentary all find their way into his music\, and after thousands of songs\, dozens of albums and three decades on the road\, he remains a most distinctive and unpredictable songwriter! \nBern emerged in the 1990s with songs that were funny\, provocative\, literate and sometimes startlingly direct. Comparisons to Bob Dylan came early\, but Bern quickly established a voice entirely his own: a songwriter capable of moving from the deeply personal to the political\, from absurd humor to genuine tenderness\, sometimes within the same song. His landmark New American Language remains a fan favorite\, filled with the kind of intelligent\, melodic and unguarded songwriting that has defined his career. \nThat career has taken him from coffeehouses to Carnegie Hall and\, most recently\, to opening shows for The Who and Roger Daltrey. His songs have appeared in films including Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story\, Get Him to the Greek\, The Bubble and Zero Effect\, while younger listeners may know his work from Amazon Prime’s award-winning children’s series The Stinky & Dirty Show. \nAnd music is only part of it. Bern is also a painter\, novelist\, children’s book author\, podcaster and broadcaster. During the pandemic\, his Hunkered in the Bunker online concerts developed a devoted community of their own\, while his topical sports songs have become regular features on The Tony Kornheiser Show. \nBut the best way to understand Dan Bern is still to hear him live. Armed with a guitar\, a seemingly bottomless supply of songs and an ability to turn whatever is happening in the world\, or in the room\, into material\, he can be hilarious one minute and unexpectedly moving the next. \nDan Bern has spent his career proving that a great song can tell the truth\, tell a joke\, ask an uncomfortable question and give you a melody to carry home. \nAt Caffè Lena\, he'll have exactly the kind of room where all of that can land. \nSAMPLE SONG \nStream this show live at Caffè Lena TV. A cornerstone of Lena’s jazz programming\, Lamb brings fresh energy\, deep musicality\, and an open-hearted spirit to every performance. \nJoining Chuck Lamb for this special duo performance is GRAMMY-nominated Brazilian guitarist Diego Figueiredo\, a dazzling player whose music brings together jazz\, bossa nova\, classical technique and the rich musical traditions of his native Brazil. Figueiredo has performed in more than 60 countries\, earned honors at the Montreux Jazz Festival\, and shared stages with an extraordinary roster of musicians including Gilberto Gil\, Stanley Jordan\, Larry Coryell\, Cyrille Aimée\, Jeff Hamilton\, Terell Stafford and Wycliffe Gordon. George Benson has called him “one of the greatest guitarists I’ve seen in my whole life.” \nWhat makes Figueiredo so exciting\, though\, isn’t simply his virtuosity. His playing combines remarkable technique and imagination with warmth\, swing and an unmistakable sense of joy and it is infectious! You'll have a joyful feeling that will leave you amazed and happy! He’s an extraordinary star among the world’s greatest jazz guitarists and his superb technique\, timing and imagination have made him one of the hottest international names right now. \nChuck Lamb\, pianist with the renowned Brubeck Brothers Quartet since 2002\, is celebrated for his passionate\, expressive style and dynamic range. A prolific composer whose work spans jazz\, fusion\, classical\, and world music\, Lamb moves effortlessly from lyrical elegance to explosive improvisation. Chuck just released his album After Hours on Phila Street\, featuring Chuck’s original acoustic jazz fusion compositions\, inspired by some of his most personal relationships and joyful moments. \nFounded with the vision and support of the late GRAMMY® and Oscar-winning producer Joel Moss\, Jazz at Caffè Lena has grown into a regional destination for adventurous\, forward-thinking jazz. \nIn the intimacy of Caffè Lena\, pairing that expressive guitar with Chuck Lamb’s equally adventurous piano creates the possibility for the kind of spontaneous musical conversation that jazz is all about: two master musicians listening\, responding and seeing where the music takes them. It’s  the kind of spontaneous interplay that reminds us why live jazz matters. Whether you’re steeped in the tradition or just beginning your jazz journey\, this is music meant to be experienced up close. \nSAMPLE SONG \nStream this show live at Caffè Lena TV. SUMMARY:Forget Everything You Know and Remember All the Things You Are
DESCRIPTION:American Roots Bluegrass Folk \n\n \n Share:\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n\n\n\n\nForget Everything You Know and Remember All the Things You Are \nNovember 4th and 11th \n6 pm – 7 pm \n$40 \nWe live in a culture that relentlessly asks us to be optimized\, efficient\, and productive. In this constant drive toward "betterment\," we often lose touch with the parts of ourselves that exist simply to experience\, to wonder\, and to play. This four-week gathering is a refusal of that pressure. It is a space designed for creative reclamation: a place to step out of the role of the "performer" and back into the rhythm of your own humanity.  \nThis is not a course about mastering a skill; it is a practice of being.   \nRather than focusing on the finished product\, we turn our attention to the process: the texture of a sound\, the weight of a found object\, the breath in the body\, and the space between us. We explore the tension between intention and surrender\, learning how to allow creativity to move through us without the need to make it "useful" or "perfect." Through somatic awareness\, sound exploration\, and the use of found materials\, we practice the art of showing up exactly as we are.  \nYou are invited to bring whatever tools or inclinations you already possess: a musical instrument\, a visual or writing practice\, a love of movement\, or simply your own curious attention. Whether you  \nconsider yourself an artist or not is irrelevant; the work is not about what you make\, but about who you remember you are.  \nBio:  \nSarah K. Her recent multimedia installation\, Mantis Shrimp Matrix—which premiered in Bangkok and Tokyo—combined sound design\, environmental art\, and visual storytelling. Over the past twenty years\, she has produced\, performed\, and recorded across a wide spectrum of styles.  \nOriginally from New York’s Capital Region\, Sarah began performing at local venues including Caffè Lena\, where her love of live improvisation first took root. Her work invites audiences and students alike into a spirit of deep listening\, play\, and creative freedom.  \nInfluences and Inspirations:  \n\nPauline Oliveros: The practice of Deep Listening and expanding perception. \nNuar Alsadir: The concept of Animal Joy and laughter as a release from self-surveillance.\nAdrienne Maree Brown: The principles of emergent strategy and revolutionary love.\nRoss Gay: The cultivation of joy through radical noticing. \nYoko Ono: The power of participatory\, instructional\, and relational art. \nBraiding Sweetgrass: The wisdom of reciprocity and our relationship with the material world.\nButch Morris: collective\, real-time composition through conduction.\n\n#adultclass \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n	\n Doors Open\n Doors Open: 6:30 pm	\n \n	\n	\n \n Price\n \n Member\n $23.86\n \n \n \n \n \n General\n $27.11\n \n \n \n \n \n Child or Student\n $13.56\n \n \n \n				 \n inclusive of fees\n \n \n \n	\n \n Get Tickets \n \n Streaming\n \n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Similar Events\n \n View All\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Folk Heritage Series: Richard Shindell\n\n American Roots Folk Singer Songwriter\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n Sold Out \n\n \n Oct 11 • 7 PM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Marty Wendell & Laura Leigh Band\n\n American Roots Country Folk Singer Songwriter\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Oct 16 • 8 PM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Jake Blount Band\n\n Folk\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Oct 17 • 8 PM

SUMMARY:Robbie Fulks with opener Henry Ferland
DESCRIPTION:Folk \n\n \n Share:\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n\n\n\n\nRobbie Fulks has spent more than three decades following his curiosity wherever it leads. \nA Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter and guitarist\, Fulks first came to national attention in the 1990s as one of the artists helping define what would become known as Americana. Since then\, he has written and recorded music that moves comfortably between bluegrass\, country\, folk\, jazz\, and rock\, always with an ear for strong songs and carefully observed characters. \nHis latest album\, Now Then\, reflects on growing older with honesty\, humor\, and a clear-eyed perspective. The songs explore long marriages\, changing landscapes\, family histories\, and the passage of time\, finding meaning in ordinary moments without sentimentality. Throughout\, Fulks writes with the attention to detail of a novelist and the economy of a seasoned songwriter. \nBefore beginning his solo career\, Fulks played bluegrass with Special Consensus. He has since collaborated with artists including Lucinda Williams\, Sam Bush\, Jerry Douglas\, Alison Brown\, Sierra Hull\, and Steve Martin\, while his songs have been recorded by musicians including Sam Bush\, Andrew Bird\, John Cowan\, Old 97's\, and Hiss Golden Messenger. \nAs a performer\, Fulks is as engaging between songs as he is during them. His concerts move naturally between thoughtful storytelling\, understated humor\, and exceptional musicianship\, creating an evening that feels both relaxed and deeply considered. \nSAMPLE SONG \nWhether he's playing an old-time tune\, a country ballad\, or one of his own songs\, Robbie Fulks brings the same qualities that have defined his career: curiosity\, craftsmanship\, and a genuine respect for the traditions that continue to shape his music. \nOpening the evening is Henry Ferland\, an extraordinary young fingerstyle guitarist from New York’s Hudson Valley who plays melody\, rhythm\, bass and percussion simultaneously\, often while singing. You may have seen him as he was an Emerging Artist at Grey Fox this year. \nA 2024 Berklee College of Music graduate and 2025 International Home of the Legends Thumbpicking Grand Champion\, Ferland has already performed with guitar greats Tommy Emmanuel and Stanley Jordan and opened for jazz legend Martin Taylor. Drawing from Americana\, jazz and country alongside his own compositions\, he’s a remarkable emerging player and one well worth arriving early to hear. Henry has just released his first studio album. \nSample Song \nStream this show live at Caffè Lena TV. Livestream available for $5 – 100% of live stream tickets on CaffeLenaTV benefit the artists. SUMMARY:The Suitcase Junket Album Release Show
DESCRIPTION:American Roots Bluegrass Folk \n\n \n Share:\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n\n\n\n\nThe Suitcase Junket is the musical world created by songwriter\, multi-instrumentalist\, and instrument builder Matt Lorenz. \nPerforming alone on stage\, Lorenz surrounds himself with guitars\, homemade percussion\, found objects\, and self-built instruments\, creating an astonishing range of sounds that blur the line between one musician and an entire band. A suitcase becomes a bass drum. Bones become percussion. Everyday objects find new voices\, all in service of the songs. \nThose songs are at the heart of everything he does. Drawing from folk\, blues\, old-time music\, and the improvisational spirit of jazz\, Lorenz writes with remarkable honesty and attention to detail. His seventh album\, To Go On\, is his most personal work to date. Written after the loss of his sister\, singer-songwriter Kate Lorenz\, the record is both a meditation on grief and a celebration of enduring love. Rather than dwelling only in loss\, the songs explore memory\, resilience\, and the ways people continue to shape our lives long after they're gone. Lorenz describes the album as finding "comfort\, a little bit of surprise\, a little bit of discomfort… and after all that\, a sense of joy and hope." \nThe music reflects that emotional journey. One moment\, the songs are quietly intimate; the next they're full of rhythmic energy\, reminding us\, as Lorenz puts it\, that "you can tap your toe\, or dance even\, and still think about death." Throughout To Go On\, moments of sorrow are balanced by humor\, warmth\, and a deep appreciation for the people who leave lasting marks on our lives. \nSAMPLE SONG \nRaised in rural Vermont\, Lorenz grew up taking apart discarded electronics and bicycles to build musical instruments while learning piano\, violin\, saxophone\, and guitar. That same curiosity still defines his work today. Every performance combines inventive musicianship with thoughtful songwriting\, creating music that feels rooted in tradition while remaining entirely his own. \nWhether appearing at major festivals or in intimate listening rooms\, The Suitcase Junket invites audiences into a performance where craftsmanship\, imagination\, and deeply personal songs exist in equal measure. This tour offers an early opportunity to hear music from To Go On before its October 2026 release\, presented in the close\, attentive setting where these songs are meant to be heard. \nStream this show live at Caffè Lena TV. Following the conference\, we are inviting everyone up the road to Caffè Lena for an after party at our historic venue! This show will feature three artists that Caffè Lena has connected with at NERFA over the years\, each performing a 30 minute set of original music.  \nConference attendees are invited to finish what is sure to be an incredible weekend of music with one final gathering here in our listening room. And\, if you are not attending the conference but still want to hear some up and coming folk artists you're in luck! We will have a limited amount of seats available to the general public. Grab 'em while you can!  \nARTIST BIOS \nGreat Aunt \nGreat Aunt is the award-winning Australian duo of Megan Bird and Chelsea Allen\, whose soaring harmonies and unusual instrumental palette draw from folk\, country and roots while folding in influences from punk\, jazz\, soul and rock. Named Duo of the Year at the 2024 Australian Folk Music Awards\, they have toured extensively in the U.S. as well as Australia\, bringing warmth\, wit and an unmistakable chemistry to their live performances. Their songs can be joyful\, vulnerable and slyly funny\, creating a sound that feels rooted in tradition without being confined by it. \nCarolyn Shapiro \nSouthern Adirondacks banjo player and songwriter Carolyn Shapiro pairs hypnotic old-time picking with a commanding voice and songs that explore the complicated business of being human. A two-time Folk Artist of the Year for New York’s Capital Region\, Carolyn actually found her voice right here at Caffè Lena\, honing her craft at our weekly Open Mic before emerging as a standout on the regional folk scene. Her music is deeply rooted in tradition while pushing the banjo into fresh territory\, delivered with warmth\, vulnerability and plenty of soul. \nSweet Petunia \nBoston duo Sweet Petunia brings together the lightning-fast playing and razor-sharp harmonies of Mairead Guy and Maddy Simpson\, with one foot planted in traditional folk and the other firmly in Boston’s punk and DIY scene. Twice nominated for a Boston Music Award for Best Folk Act\, the duo released their debut full-length album\, Foggy Mountain Mental Breakdown\, on Righteous Babe Records in 2026\, mixing old-time and bluegrass roots with a decidedly contemporary edge. Unapologetically queer\, sometimes tender and sometimes gloriously loud\, Sweet Petunia is interested not simply in preserving folk music\, but in helping it evolve. \nStream this show live at Caffè Lena TV. SUMMARY:Farah Siraj
DESCRIPTION:American Roots Bluegrass Folk \n\n \n Share:\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n\n\n\n\nIf you saw Farah Siraj at Caffè Lena @ SPAC last year\, you probably remember that voice. Now Jordan's “Musical Ambassadress” comes to the intimate Caffè Lena stage with a stunning new project that brings Arabic music and flamenco together. \nWhen Farah Siraj performed as part of our Caffè Lena @ SPAC series in 2025\, she wowed the audience with a voice capable of moving from breathtaking tenderness to exhilarating power. We knew then that we wanted to bring her back\, and this time\, you'll get to experience her up close at Caffè Lena. \nThe Jordanian singer-songwriter returns with her forthcoming album\, Miel y Limón\, produced by 10-time Grammy Award winner Javier Limón. The project brings together two musical worlds with deep histories of their own: the passionate rhythms and guitar of flamenco and the melodic beauty and tradition of Arabic music. Add Farah's jazz influences and remarkable voice\, and the result is music that feels ancient and contemporary\, intimate and expansive all at once. \nFarah has carried that voice from her native Jordan to some of the world's most prestigious stages\, including Carnegie Hall\, Lincoln Center\, the United Nations\, the World Economic Forum and the Nobel Peace Prize Forum. Her music crosses borders just as naturally\, exploring love\, longing\, resilience and the connections that exist between people and cultures. \nFor this special concert\, Farah is joined by her trio for an evening of virtuosic vocals\, flamenco guitar\, percussion\, storytelling and improvisation. Rather than simply placing Arabic and Spanish traditions side by side\, the musicians allow them to speak to one another\, creating a musical conversation that can shift from delicate and haunting to fiery and rhythmic. \n"Miel y Limón"\, “Honey and Lemon”\, is a fitting name for music filled with contrasts: sweetness and bite\, vulnerability and strength\, tradition and reinvention. \nAnd if you were among the people who discovered Farah at SPAC last year\, you already have an idea of what's coming. \nSample Song \nBut hearing that extraordinary voice from just a few feet away at Caffè Lena? That's going to be something else. \nThis concert is part of the Nordlys Global Voices Series\, made possible by The Nordlys Foundation. \nStream this show live at Caffè Lena TV. Livestream available for $5 – 100% of live stream tickets on CaffeLenaTV benefit the artists.
