She has released nine critically acclaimed albums\, two of which were awarded Best Pop Album of the year by the Association for Independent Music. But where she shines brightest is on the live stage.  Maybe it's her background as a clinical psychologist\, because there's nobody who helps us unwind\, let our guard down\, and open our hearts like Lucy Kaplansky. She makes every audience feel like a circle of old friends catching up and reconnecting. Kaplansky is also part of folk supergroup Cry Cry Cry with Dar Williams and Richard Shindell.  Her recording of Roxy Music’s “More Than This” has over 12 million streams on Spotify\, and she has been featured on NPR’s All Things Considered\, Weekend Edition\, and Morning Edition as well as BBC Radio\, and CBS Sunday Morning\, and has sung harmony on albums by Suzanne Vega\, Bryan Ferry\, Nanci Griffith and Shawn Colvin.  Her latest release\, The Lucy Story (2025)\, is a retrospective of unreleased tracks\, demos\, and live recordings spanning her remarkable journey—from teenage bedroom tapes to international tours and studio collaborations with some of folk music’s finest. NPR’s Scott Simon has called her music “utterly beautiful and affecting\,” a fitting tribute to an artist whose songs capture the human experience with honesty\, warmth\, and grace. Want to share a theater piece you’re writing? Join us for the 1st Sunday monthly Playwright’s Jams! A monthly meetup hosted by Caffe Lena for local writers\, actors & directors The First Sunday of the Month 1:30pm- 4:00pm Doors open at 1:00; Casting begins at 1:15pm and Readings start at 1:30pm! Bring your great ideas\, your new scripts\, your edits and your friends for an inspiring afternoon fo theater in the making. Playwrights should bring a highlighted script for each of their actors and one extra for stage directionsBring a short scene (7-8 minutes). Cast your actors from the audience\, including your fellow playwrights. Give them brief directions and then put them on stage to read your script. We’ll go around the room after the reading and let everyone give a “popcorn” reaction (one word!).Each meeting will include 6 or 7 scenes selected at random from those submitted. After the readings we’ll have time to hang out and get acquainted.  This event will be co-hosted by Michael Wells-Oakes and Vivian NesbittPlaywright Nice! We foster a diverse community that has a great time making art and helping one another get better. Excessive profanity\, explicit sexual themes and “humor” that unkindly targets a specific group undermines this goal. It is up to the discretion of the host to enforce the house standards. \n \n	\n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n Doors Open\n Doors Open: 7:30 pm	\n \n	\n\n \n\n	\n \n	\n \n Price\n \n Member\n $45.55\n \n \n \n \n \n General\n $50.97\n \n \n \n \n \n Child or Student\n $25.49\n \n \n \n				 \n inclusive of fees\n \n \n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n \n Get Tickets \n \n Streaming\n \n \n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n \n Similar Events\n \n View All\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n \n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n	\n \n\n The Beatle Caffè\n\n American Roots Folk Jazz Multi-act Program Soul\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n \n \n Nov 8 • 3 PM \n \n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n \n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n	\n \n\n The Beatle Caffè\n\n American Roots Folk Jazz Multi-act Program Soul\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n \n \n Nov 8 • 7 PM \n \n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n \n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n	\n \n\n Chuck Lamb & Diego Figueiredo\n\n Instrumental Jazz\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n \n \n Nov 10 • 7 PM

SUMMARY:Willie Watson
DESCRIPTION:Instrumental Jazz \n\n \n Share:\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	Please note: This show was rescheduled from its original 9/11/26 date due to an unforeseen scheduling conflict. Before he turned 18\, Willie Watson had a moment that would quietly change everything. In an apple orchard in upstate New York\, singing old songs with a fellow traveler\, Ruby Love\, he felt something open. Music was more than music\, it was a way of making sense of heartbreak\, confusion\, and the shape of a life just beginning. He’s called it\, in his own way\, a duet with the divine. That moment set him on a path that would soon lead to the formation of Old Crow Medicine Show\, and years spent carrying forward the deep well of American folk tradition. But the role he stepped into\, the keeper of old songs\, the “nice singer in the cowboy hat”\, would eventually begin to feel limiting. Life moved forward in complicated ways: marriage and fatherhood\, years on the road\, and the quiet disorientation of trying to hold onto yourself while the world keeps shifting around you. There were harder chapters\, too\, periods of excess and disconnection that nearly broke him.  What followed was slower\, more difficult work. Sobriety\, yes\, but also something deeper: a willingness to look back\, to face the parts of his story that shaped him\, and to begin again with intention. In that space\, songwriting became not just an outlet\, but a necessity. Watson began writing songs that didn’t hide behind tradition\, but stood inside his own experience\, songs that wrestle with memory\, regret\, tenderness\, and the fragile hope that comes with change.  His self-titled album is the result of that reckoning. Created in close collaboration with songwriter Morgan Nagler and brought to life with a small\, intuitive band\, the songs feel like moments of discovery unfolding in real time\, shaped as much by silence and reflection as by melody. They look backward in order to move forward\, tracing the emotional terrain of a life lived fully\, and not always easily.  There are still echoes of the old songs he’s long carried\, those timeless melodies\, familiar shapes\, but now they sit alongside something new. Watson has stepped fully into the role of songwriter\, adding his own stories to the tradition he once interpreted. The result is music that feels both rooted and deeply personal\, shaped by experience and delivered with a voice that has nothing left to prove. THERE ARE NO PRE-SHOW RESERVATIONS FOR THE JAMS! SUGGESTED DONATION AT THE DOOR. $5.00 per person Our jams are all about sharing songs\, making new friends\, and enjoying a relaxing and casual evening of irresistible string band music. ALL are welcome to join the circle for an afternoon or evening playing and listening to classic grass\, new grass and folk favorites. We sometimes refer to our genre as eclectic acoustic. Red Spruce and Adirondack Song Dogs will kick off each session with a few tunes then open the floor for musicians to lead their favorite bluegrass tunes and folk music\, backed up by the other pickers in the gathering. Simple tunes are always popular! So sharpen up your axe\, come prepared with your song\, and let us hear some good old fast\, high and lonesome\, some slow and low\, or a good old favorite. All are welcome! What is a Slow Jam? It is a group of string instrument players and singers who get together to have fun making music. The “slow” modifier indicates that it is targeted to the following musicians: people who have been playing solo and want to get used to playing in a group setting: people who have just learned how to play and want to play with others; people who have instruments that have been gathering dust for a “few” years; experienced players who are trying out playing instruments other than their primary instrument; people who are comfortable playing their instrument but want to become more comfortable singing/leading a song.. The tunes are played at 80 to 110 BPM and usually in basic keys such a G\, A\, D\, C major\, but it always sounds great to play in some minor keys such as “a”\, “e”\, and “g”. We will try to avoid “jam busters.” It is our hope that after this experience you will feel more comfortable playing at the many open jams and open mics that can be found in our area. \n \n	\n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n Doors Open\n Doors Open: 6:30 pm	\n \n	\n\n \n\n	\n \n	\n \n Price\n \n Member\n $27.11\n \n \n \n \n \n General\n $30.37\n \n \n \n \n \n Child or Student\n $15.18\n \n \n \n				 \n inclusive of fees\n \n \n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n \n Get Tickets \n \n Streaming\n \n \n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n \n Similar Events\n \n View All\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n \n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n	\n \n\n The Beatle Caffè\n\n American Roots Folk Jazz Multi-act Program Soul\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n \n \n Nov 8 • 3 PM \n \n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n \n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n	\n \n\n The Beatle Caffè\n\n American Roots Folk Jazz Multi-act Program Soul\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n \n \n Nov 8 • 7 PM \n \n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n \n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n	\n \n\n Peak Jazz Series: Frank Vignola & Vinny Raniolo\n\n Jazz\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n \n \n Nov 20 • 8 PM

SUMMARY:Peak Jazz Series: Ben Sherman Quartet
DESCRIPTION:Jazz \n\n \n Share:\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	A rising talent on New York City's vibrant jazz scene\, Ben Sherman combines a deep respect for the music's rich history with a fresh\, adventurous approach to improvisation and composition. His playing is expressive\, inventive and firmly rooted in the jazz tradition\, while always looking for new possibilities. Sherman's musical journey began in middle school\, and by his teenage years\, he was already making his way into New York City's legendary jazz jam sessions\, learning firsthand from the musicians who make the city's jazz scene one of the most exciting in the world. Along the way\, he studied with acclaimed saxophonists Abraham Burton and Tim Berne\, developing a musical voice that balances technical command with creativity and emotional depth. Despite his young age\, Sherman has already shared the bandstand with an impressive array of musicians\, including Joel Ross\, William Parker\, Anthony Hervey and Winard Harper. He has also toured with Freedom First\, a powerful musical project featuring Keith LaMar\, and performs regularly at celebrated jazz venues including The Jazz Gallery and Smalls Jazz Club. With the Ben Sherman Quartet\, he brings together a group of talented young musicians who share his passion for exploration and musical conversation. Current quartet members are Roman Goron on piano\, Solomon Gottfried on bass\, Jacob Patrone on drums\, and Ben on saxophone. The quartet's sound draws on the energy and sophistication of classic jazz while embracing the spontaneity and fresh ideas of today's generation of players. Expect inventive arrangements\, expressive solos and the kind of musical interplay that makes small-group jazz so exciting. At Caffè Lena\, where every nuance can be heard and the connection between musicians and audience is immediate\, the Ben Sherman Quartet offers a chance to experience an emerging jazz voice up close. Come hear where the next generation is taking jazz. SAMPLE SONG The Peak Jazz Series is made possible by the generous support of Joseph & Luann Conlon in memory of Joel Moss. Her musical story began in Woodstock\, NY\, where she came up in the extraordinary community surrounding artists like Levon Helm and Rick Danko\, playing with local greats including John Herald\, Paul Butterfield and Happy & Artie Traum. A move to Nashville led to nine years with Western Swing giants Asleep at the Wheel\, five Grammy Awards and collaborations with Willie Nelson\, Merle Haggard\, Dolly Parton and Lyle Lovett. Since then\, everyone from Bob Dylan and Van Morrison to Rod Stewart\, Jorma Kaukonen\, John Sebastian and Peter Rowan has called on Cashdollar to bring her unmistakable sound to their music. She was also the first woman inducted into the Texas Steel Guitar Hall of Fame\, and in 2022 the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum honored her as one of its “Nashville Cats\,” recognizing the musicians whose playing has helped shape countless recordings and performances. For Two Many Guitars\, Cashdollar joins guitarist Jack Petruzzelli for a trip through a century of music\, moving from the jazz of Django Reinhardt\, Thelonious Monk and Hoagy Carmichael to the roots music of Chet Atkins\, Lonnie Johnson and beyond.   Petruzzelli brings a formidable musical history of his own. A multi-instrumentalist\, songwriter and Grammy-nominated producer\, he has worked with Patti Smith\, Ian Hunter\, Joan Osborne and Rufus Wainwright and is a founding member of acclaimed Beatles tribute band The Fab Faux.   And for this Caffè Lena show\, they’re bringing a full band: Karl Allweier on bass and vocals\, Will Bryant on piano and vocals\, and Justin Guip on drums. Expect Western Swing\, jazz\, blues\, country and roots music to rub shoulders\, with plenty of room for five exceptional musicians to stretch out\, trade ideas and follow the music wherever it wants to go. With Cashdollar’s extraordinary command of steel guitar\, Petruzzelli’s versatility and musical imagination\, and a powerhouse rhythm section\, Two Many Guitars promises an evening of inspired musicianship\, unexpected musical twists and the kind of interplay that makes live music so exciting. Five outstanding musicians\, a century of musical inspiration and a whole lot of talent on the Caffè Lena stage. This is one for the music lovers! SAMPLE SONG Stream this show live at Caffè Lena TV. Now this extraordinary artist is coming back. Philadelphia-born singer\, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Gail Ann Dorsey is widely recognized as one of the most respected bass players and vocalists in modern music\, with a career that has placed her alongside some of the most influential artists of the past four decades. Many fans know Dorsey from her longtime collaboration with David Bowie. She held the bass chair in Bowie’s touring band from 1995–2004\, and her extraordinary voice became an unforgettable part of their live performances of the Queen/Bowie classic “Under Pressure.” She recorded and performed extensively with Bowie during one of the most creatively adventurous periods of his later career. Dorsey’s remarkable musical journey has also included recording and touring with artists including Lenny Kravitz\, Tears for Fears\, Seal\, Gwen Stefani\, Bryan Ferry\, Gang of Four\, The National\, Thomas Dolby\, and many others. She has also been a featured vocalist with Blackstar Symphony\, celebrating Bowie’s music alongside other musicians who knew and worked with him. But Gail Ann Dorsey has always been much more than the extraordinary musician standing beside somebody else. She is a songwriter and solo artist in her own right\, with three acclaimed albums to her name: The Corporate World\, Rude Blue and I Used to Be… Now\, more than two decades after her last solo album\, Dorsey is returning to that part of her musical life with new music. Her forthcoming album\, The Appearance of Life\, brings the focus squarely back to her own voice\, writing and musicianship. Inspired in part by the sophisticated sounds of 1970s AM/FM radio and artists including Carole King\, Roberta Flack and Joan Armatrading\, it marks an exciting new chapter for an artist whose career has never followed an ordinary path. Last time she visited Caffè Lena\, every seat was filled. This time\, we have the rare chance to welcome her back as she enters a new chapter of her own extraordinary career. Don’t miss Gail Ann Dorsey up close at Caffè Lena. SAMPLE SONG Stream this show live at Caffè Lena TV. Livestream available for $5 – 100% of live stream tickets on CaffeLenaTV benefit the artists. SUMMARY:Racquette River Rounders Annual Boxing Day Reunion Show
DESCRIPTION:Jazz \n\n \n Share:\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	Celebrate Boxing Day with the Raquette River Rounders\, bringing great picking\, old favorites and decades of musical friendship to Caffè Lena. At Caffè Lena\, the day after Christmas means the Raquette River Rounders. Guitarist Danny Gotham and singer-songwriter John Kribs first joined forces with the late bassist Michael Hadfield in the late 1970s\, creating an eclectic North Country string band that never paid much attention to musical boundaries. Traditional reels and jigs might rub shoulders with old country\, swing and blues\, followed by Fats Waller\, Elvis Presley or one of their own songs. The Rounders toured extensively\, made two albums for Adirondack Records and built a devoted following before officially going their separate ways in the early 1980s. Year after year\, the Rounders have found their way back to Caffè Lena for their annual Boxing Day Reunion Show\, turning December 26 into a gathering of old friends\, longtime fans and newcomers discovering what all the fuss is about. And there’s plenty of musical history on that stage. Danny Gotham is a master flatpicker and fingerpicker who took second place in the prestigious National Fingerpicking Guitar Championship in Winfield\, Kansas\, and has performed with artists including Tom Paxton and Peter Ostroushko. John Kribs has spent nearly six decades making music\, from the Northeast coffeehouse circuit and the Rounders to Johnny & The Triumphs and beyond\, writing and performing an enormous range of American roots music along the way. What brings them back together\, though\, is simpler than all those credentials: these guys love playing music together. Expect great picking\, songs you haven't heard in years\, songs you didn't know you needed to hear\, plenty of stories and the easy chemistry that comes from a musical friendship stretching back nearly half a century. Christmas may be over\, but nobody says the party has to be\, come spend Boxing Day with the Raquette River Rounders at Caffè Lena\, a holiday tradition that's been a very long time in the making. A songwriter\, troubadour\, TEDx speaker\, stand-up comic and author\, Kellogg has performed thousands of shows around the world\, earning a reputation as one of those rare performers who can move effortlessly from a beautifully written song to a hilarious story and back again without ever losing the emotional thread. Planet Bluegrass calls him “a first class songwriter with a poet’s gift for fresh imagery\,” while Counting Crows frontman Adam Duritz says\, “there are few people in rock n’ roll who are just so great.” Rolling Stone may have summed up his musical side best\, describing his sound as “John Prine fronting the Heartbreakers.” Kellogg’s career has also taken him far beyond the traditional singer-songwriter circuit. He has received the Armed Forces Entertainer of the Year Award\, earned a Grammy for songwriting\, and recently celebrated the 3\,000th performance of his professional career with the double album Road to 3000 Live! At the same time\, his one-hour comedy special Maybe This Will Work has brought another side of his storytelling to audiences on Amazon Prime. But all those accomplishments really lead back to the same thing: Stephen Kellogg knows how to connect with a room. His shows cover a lot of emotional territory\, family\, love\, disappointment\, hope\, growing older\, trying again\, and the absurdity that runs through all of it. He can make you laugh hard\, catch you completely off guard with a song\, and leave you thinking about something he said long after the lights come up. Her music is intimate\, atmospheric and emotionally honest\, with haunting harmonies and melodies that linger long after the last note. A songwriter first and foremost\, Shea has a gift for turning journal entries into anthems and fleeting emotions into songs that feel deeply personal yet remarkably universal. She writes for anyone who's loved too hard\, stayed too long\, left too soon\, or struggled to find their way through the complicated business of being human. Her goal is simple: to make listeners feel a little less alone. Raised in Upstate New York and now based in Nashville\, Shea graduated from Berklee College of Music in 2026\, where she studied songwriting and live music business. She's building her career around the kind of honest\, emotionally resonant songwriting that invites audiences to connect not just with the music\, but with their own experiences. Steckler / Ikawa / Plaxico / Lewis brings together four mighty jazz musicians with rich\, intersecting histories. Their project\, Old Friends Beckoned / New Sounds Reckoned (Skydeck)\, blends their considerable individual artistry into a collective voice through original compositions where personal prowess is set aside in favor of deeper collaboration. The result is a seamless\, emotive sound that resonates with listeners. Capital Region native Matt Steckler (Matty Stecks)\, described as “delightfully eclectic” by Downbeat and “inspired by greater artistic depth” by Jazz Times\, is a versatile performer and composer. Primarily a saxophonist and woodwind specialist\, he also incorporates vocals\, keyboards\, percussion\, and electronic media into his performances. Recognized for his work with groups like Dead Cat Bounce and Persiflage\, Steckler has performed at major festivals in North America and Europe\, always bringing a dynamic\, holistic approach to the stage. Pianist/composer Yayoi Ikawa\, born in Tokyo and raised musically in New York\, embodies creativity and empathy in her playing. Her 2004 release Angel Eyes showcased her talent in a straight-ahead jazz piano trio\, while her self-produced Color of Dreams highlighted her original compositions. Ikawa\, who has performed at festivals across the U.S.\, Japan\, Italy\, and more\, believes jazz is a social art form and strives to pass it on to future generations. Bassist Lonnie Plaxico integrates the rigorous technique of classical\, the improvisation of jazz\, and the rawness of funk. His career has seen collaborations with the likes of Sonny Sitt\, Alice Coltrane\, Stanley Turrentine\, Joe Sample\, Abbey Lincoln\, and Dizzy Gillespie. Plaxico has also released five albums as a leader\, each met with critical acclaim. Drummer Tony Lewis\, a South Bronx native\, has played with Little Richard\, Sting\, B.B. SUMMARY:The Faux Paws
DESCRIPTION:Jazz \n\n \n Share:\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	What happens when you mix bluegrass\, Celtic fiddle tunes\, jazz saxophone\, old-time music\, folk\, and a healthy disregard for musical boundaries? You get The Faux Paws. And there's really nobody else quite like them. The Faux Paws are a band that defies description\, and they seem perfectly happy about it. Brothers Andrew and Noah VanNorstrand and multi-instrumentalist Dean Miller have spent more than a decade creating a sound that's entirely their own. It's wildly inventive\, rhythmically irresistible\, sometimes beautifully tender\, sometimes downright explosive\, and always full of surprises. The VanNorstrand brothers grew up playing traditional dance music in their family's band\, Great Bear\, developing an almost telepathic musical connection along the way. When they met Miller at Ashokan music camp in New York\, something clicked. His background in jazz\, bluegrass and Cajun music\, along with his extraordinary versatility on saxophone\, clarinet\, banjo\, dobro and more\, opened up a whole new world of musical possibilities. And what possibilities! Noah's fiery fiddling and remarkable Québécois-style foot percussion can make him sound like an entire rhythm section. Andrew's intricate guitar work provides the foundation\, while Dean's saxophone takes unexpected turns that might make you wonder how on earth it fits into a folk band. Somehow\, it all works brilliantly. But beneath the dazzling musicianship and playful experimentation are terrific original songs\, heartfelt lyrics\, tight three-part harmonies and the unmistakable chemistry of musicians who genuinely love making music together. Their self-titled debut album was named one of Folk Alley's 10 Best Traditional Albums of 2021\, and their 2023 Backburner EP reached the Top 10 on Billboard's Bluegrass Albums Chart. Their second full-length album\, No Bad Ideas\, released in 2024\, further established their reputation as one of acoustic music's most imaginative and exciting bands. They've also expanded their touring sound with upright bass\, frequently featuring Chris Felix Sartori of Twisted Pine and Peter Rowan's band. A Faux Paws concert can take you from a foot-stomping fiddle tune to a soaring saxophone solo\, from a beautifully intimate song to an exhilarating burst of improvisation\, sometimes all within the same piece of music. At Caffè Lena\, where musical traditions are treasured and adventurous artists are always welcome\, The Faux Paws are a perfect fit. Come ready for anything. You may not know exactly what to call the music\, but you'll know you had a great time hearing it. SAMPLE SONG Stream this show live at Caffè Lena TV. When musicians of this caliber get together\, you know you're in for something special. Mark Cosgrove & Good Medicine bring a thrilling mix of bluegrass\, Americana\, country\, roots music\, and even a little swampy blues to Caffè Lena\, with dazzling musicianship\, terrific vocals\, and plenty of personality. At the center is Mark Cosgrove\, one of the country's finest acoustic guitarists and a winner of both the National Flatpicking Championship and the prestigious Doc Watson Guitar Championship. His remarkable technique and musical versatility have made him a sought-after performer\, including years spent playing alongside the legendary David Bromberg. Bromberg himself says\, “Mark Cosgrove uses a flat pick the way I've always wanted to do myself\, and that's just the beginning. It's a privilege to play with him.” And Cosgrove has surrounded himself with some equally impressive musicians. Fiddler Nate Grower\, another veteran of David Bromberg's Quintet and Big Band\, brings fiery playing and an adventurous musical spirit. Mike Munford\, an International Bluegrass Music Association Banjo Player of the Year\, adds his extraordinary picking to the mix. Berklee-trained bassist Nate Sabat anchors the sound\, while guitarist and vocalist Jon Sheldrick rounds out this formidable five-piece band. Together\, they move effortlessly between bluegrass favorites\, rootsy Americana\, country\, and blues\, with the kind of interplay that comes from musicians who are not only masters of their instruments but genuinely enjoy playing together. Expect lightning-fast picking\, beautiful harmonies\, unexpected musical turns\, and a whole lot of fun. Mark Cosgrove & Good Medicine deliver exactly what their name promises: a healthy dose of great music! SAMPLE SONG Stream this show live at Caffè Lena TV.
