DESCRIPTION: 		\n\n \n Share:\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	While bluegrass is the undeniable foundation of the Prowlers’ music\, they've taken the traditional form & developed their own sound. Founded two decades ago with the simple desire to play original and powerful bluegrass\, this Chicago-bred quartet now finds themselves at the intersection of performance\, diplomacy\, and education. Onstage\, the group's enthralling performances give audiences a sense of how much they love what they do. On record\, including their latest offering\, 2023’s Lead and Iron\, released via Dark Shadow Recording – the band explores their collective life experiences through songwriting and intricate instrumentation. While bluegrass is the undeniable foundation of the Prowlers’ music\, the band bends and squeezes the traditional form into a keenly developed sound all their own. Working with the U.S. State Department and under their own nonprofit\, Bluegrass Ambassadors\, the Prowlers have toured over 25 countries across the globe. The group's experiences with people and musicians across Africa\, Asia\, Europe\, and the Middle East have shaped the band’s worldview and broadened the group’s direction towards bridging cultural gaps with music\, educational programs\, and workshops. Using traditional American music as a foundation\, connecting folk music\, customs\, and history the world over\, the Prowlers incorporate international elements into their already robust repertoire of unique traditional American music. Whether playing live or presenting seminars\, wherever they are\, the Henhouse Prowlers find and spread the commonality we share as human beings through the universal language of music. We were already booked\, but there was no way we could pass up the chance to bring these two trailblazers to our audience so we made room for a matinee. Knapp is a Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter\, author\, speaker\, and advocate. Her career includes the remarkable achievement of selling over one million albums with her first three releases: the Gold-certified “Kansas” (1998)\, “Lay It Down” (2000)\, and “The Way I Am” (2001). Alongside this commercial success\, Knapp has been honored with four Dove Awards and garnered two Grammy nominations. She is the first major artist in the Christian music realm to openly discuss LGBTQ+ identity. Her courageous stance sparked national dialogue and led to appearances on Larry King Live and the TEDx stage. She founded the non-profit organization Inside Out Faith\, dedicated to advocating for LGBTQ+ rights within faith communities. We're thrilled to welcome opener Flamy Grant back to our stage. She's a powerhouse vocalist\, intrepid songwriter\, and acclaimed drag queen from western North Carolina who blends folk\, gospel\, and roots\, transporting audiences with therapeutic\, theatrical storytelling and song. Her 2022 debut record\, Bible Belt Baby\, garnered international attention when it reached the #1 spot on the iTunes Christian Charts. He began performing as a teenager in the early 1960s\, playing in Greenwich Village folk clubs alongside his siblings Harry and Steve as The Chapin Brothers. Over the decades his music career has encompassed both songs for adults and pioneering work for children. He has performed on Broadway as the lead in Pump Boys and Dinettes and served as host of TV’s National Geographic Explorer. In addition to his remarkable output of smart\, thoughtful\, funny and beautiful songs\, Chapin has long been an advocate for environmental causes\, issues of hunger and social justice\, and a supporter of music and the arts in public schools. Tom will accompany himself on guitar\, banjo and autoharp. “Tom Chapin is at the top of his game … warm\, wise\, whimsical\, and anthemic – and very right for our times.” (WFUV) Sample Song Stream this show live at Caffè Lena TV. Stitched together from personal and universal ecstasy\, loss both intimate and ancient\, Maloney’s tremulous folk\, existential ballads\, and assertive rock encompass the whole of life. There’s been a spiritual thread running through her work ever since she began writing songs while living at a Zen monastery. Her wise art shows us the infinite in the details of daily life\, family love\, nature\, pursuit of identity\, and romantic commitment. "Her penchant for vibrant storytelling is reminiscent of the Indigo Girls or even the singer Melanie. Maloney’s ability to create a palpable intimacy between audience and performer is reflective of Dar Williams’ quiet roar." – PopMatters Stream this show live at Caffè Lena TV. Oshima Bothers\, a Japanese-Italian alt-pop sibling duo from the coast of Maine\, make open-hearted music with exhilarating\, almost unbelievably smooth vocal harmonies and groovy guitar lines. With keys\, bass\, drums and looping\, they create a sonic experience that is contemporary\, danceable and yet full of poetic observation about big things going on in the world. Their unique music is fueled by technical tinkering\, aesthetic brilliance and devotion to human connection. Embracing a DIY approach\, they produce every inch of their songs and videos from scratch\, including a 45-minute album-movie. Maine Public Radio says their “harmonies can’t be beat. They are uplifting and\, let’s face it\, we need uplifting these days.” Winnepeg singer-songwriter Madeleine Roger has a riveting\, intimate style that unites lyrical prowess and breathtaking melodies that linger long after they're sung. “Madeleine's excellent songwriting\, ear for traditional-sounding melodies\, fabulous voice\, and skillful guitar playing give them a timeless quality\, though they speak directly to our time.” – Stan Rogers Folk Festival. WE LOVE TO MEET NEW PICKERS\, AND WE LOVE PUTTING ON A GOOD SHOW FOR LISTENERS!THERE ARE NO PRE-SHOW RESERVATIONS FOR THE JAMS! SUGGESTED DONATION AT THE DOOR. $5.00 per person Our jams are all about sharing songs\, making new friends\, and enjoying a relaxing and casual evening of irresistible string band music. ALL are welcome to join the circle for an afternoon or evening playing and listening to classic grass\, new grass and folk favorites. We sometimes refer to our genre as eclectic acoustic. Red Spruce and Adirondack Song Dogs will kick off each session with a few tunes then open the floor for musicians to lead their favorite bluegrass tunes and folk music\, backed up by the other pickers in the gathering. Simple tunes are always popular! So sharpen up your axe\, come prepared with your song\, and let us hear some good old fast\, high and lonesome\, some slow and low\, or a good old favorite. All are welcome! What is a Slow Jam? It is a group of string instrument players and singers who get together to have fun making music. The “slow” modifier indicates that it is targeted to the following musicians: people who have been playing solo and want to get used to playing in a group setting: people who have just learned how to play and want to play with others; people who have instruments that have been gathering dust for a “few” years; experienced players who are trying out playing instruments other than their primary instrument; people who are comfortable playing their instrument but want to become more comfortable singing/leading a song.. The tunes are played at 80 to 110 BPM and usually in basic keys such a G\, A\, D\, C major\, but it always sounds great to play in some minor keys such as “a”\, “e”\, and “g”. We will try to avoid “jam busters.” It is our hope that after this experience you will feel more comfortable playing at the many open jams and open mics that can be found in our area. \n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n Doors Open\n Doors Open: 2:30 pm	\n	\n	\n\n \n\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n \n Get Tickets \n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n \n Similar Events\n \n View All

Mesmerizing soundscapes with percussive fingerstyle\, tapping into experimental folk and jazz. “When Yasmin Williams plays guitar\, she conjures new possibilities and stories from the instrument.” – Rolling Stone Acoustic fingerstyle guitarist Yasmin Williams has an unorthodox\, modern style of guitar playing\, using various techniques including alternate tunings\, percussive hits\, and lap tapping in her music to great effect. Williams’ “radiant sound and adventitious origins have made her a key figure in a diverse dawn for the solo guitar” (The New York Times). Her music has been described as rich\, harmonious\, and “in a lot of ways\, the joy and possibility she brings to the guitar reminds me more of Eddie Van Halen than any of the other fingerstyle guitarists to whom she’s compared” (NPR Music). You don't need to travel to NYC to see great jazz! The JAZZ at Caffe Lena series is hosted by resident composer\, pianist\, and jazz master Chuck Lamb\, with support from music producer Joel Moss. Each month\, Lamb invites a top-flight jazz artist to join his trio on stage. Lamb\, a member of the Brubeck Brothers Quartet since 2002\, is not only an exciting and emotive pianist but also a prolific composer of jazz\, fusion\, classical\, and world music. Through these collaborations\, the artists stretch their creative boundaries\, exploring new musical landscapes and creating spontaneous\, exhilarating performances. February's show is the Chuck Lamb Trio\, and Chuck's special guest\, trombonist John Fedchock. John Fedchock’s illustrious career in jazz has spanned over four decades. Since his emergence on the scene in 1980\, Fedchock has established himself as a world-class trombone soloist\, a heralded bandleader\, and a GRAMMY-nominated arranger. An in-demand performer and writer in New York City\, his multifaceted talents have led him to become one of NYC’s premier jazz artists. His critically acclaimed John Fedchock New York Big Band’s recordings have appeared in jazz radio’s Top Ten and in recognition of his writing skills\, Fedchock is a two-time GRAMMY nominee for Instrumental Arranging. Fedchock began his career touring with the legendary Woody Herman\, also serving as chief arranger for Herman's last two GRAMMY-nominated albums. He has toured with T.S. Monk\, Gerry Mulligan\, Louie Bellson\, Jon Faddis\, and the Carnegie Hall Jazz Band. “John Fedcock is one of the living masters of his instrument." — Hot House NYC magazine Stream this show live at Caffè Lena TV. DESCRIPTION: 		\n\n \n Share:\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	This duo combines the evocative voice and songwriting of Molly Venter\, known for her sublime singing in vocal trio Red Molly\, with husband\, Oberlin-trained guitarist Eben Pariser of New Orleans style jazz band Roosevelt Dime. Venter’s voice\, which can be called both “biker-chick smoky” (New Haven Register)\, and “like silk” (American Songwriter Magazine)\, pairs with trance-induced stream-of-consciousness writing in songs that probe the depths of inner experience. Their show is punctuated by banter that openly explores the complexities of marriage\, the Creator\, birth\, life\, death and the roller coaster that is everyday life. For Venter and Pariser\, it is the way they make space for each other while staying true to themselves that defines this music\, and marriage. \n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n Doors Open\n Doors Open: 2:30 pm	\n	\n	\n\n \n\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n \n Get Tickets \n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n \n Similar Events\n \n View All

SUMMARY:Momentum Series: The Suitcase Junket
DESCRIPTION: 		\n\n \n Share:\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	One of the defining features of The Suitcase Junket’s music is the use of unconventional instruments and repurposed materials. Matt Lorenz\, who performs as The Suitcase Junket\, is a homesteader currently living in rural Massachusetts. He often creates his instruments from salvaged items like old suitcases\, gas cans\, and other discarded objects\, which adds a distinct and raw quality to the sound. Growing up in Cavendish\, Vermont\, Lorenz began playing piano at age five\, and later took up violin\, saxophone\, and guitar. During his years at Hampshire College in Amherst\, Massachusetts\, he studied music and adaptive instrument design\, a pursuit that included building a prototype for a drummer who couldn’t use their legs\, where they’d be able to play the bass drum and hi-hat through a system of pulleys. After college\, he headed to Europe on a $150 plane ticket\, ran out of money in Barcelona\, and spent a year playing music in the streets. “That’s where I learned how to sing loud\, which got me figuring out what my voice could do\,” Lorenz notes. Once he’d returned to Amherst\, he formed the band Rusty Belle with his sister Kate and\, several years later\, started The Suitcase Junket with the aid of a guitar he’d found in a dumpster. Lorenz chose the name as a nod to his longtime love of collecting old suitcases\, including an antique that he’s refurbished into a bass drum\, and to a secondary definition of junket\, i.e. “a pleasure excursion.” Matt Lorenz’s vision\, manifest in The Suitcase Junket\, developed in the tension between the grand and the solitary. Grand in its imagery\, sound\, and staging. Solitary in its thrift and self-reliance. What instruments he requires\, Lorenz builds from scratch and salvage. What parts five players would perform\, he performs alone. The spectacle of his one-man set bears constant comparison to legends of showmanship\, brilliance\, madness\, and invention.  While audiences are captivated by his solitary form and the show itself\, Lorenz\, who homesteads with rescue dogs and chickens in rural Western Massachusetts\, is most serious about the songs. He has been building a catalog\, writing a world into existence. Solitary on stage and on the road\, his mind is crowded with characters\, narratives\, voices\, imagery\, sounds as wide and varied as mountain throat singers and roadhouse juke boxes\, plus newsreels of the planet’s destruction and salvage. With his latest project\, The End is New\, which he refers to as “doom-folk\,” Lorenz’s grand vision for the song overrides the how of it.  “The things I value are under attack\,” he reflects. “And writing songs and making art are the methods I have for responding. I have tried to use my observations and reflections of the world bent through my fun-house-mirror mind to show what I see; a planet stressed. … There’s a heavy mix of hope and desperation in the sound and lyrically I was trying to be a mirror to society using truth\, myth\, confessions and stories.” In addition to his musical pursuits\, Lorenz is passionate about coffee\, gardening\, bees\, dogs\, birds\, mushrooms\, tinctures\, making his own wine and maple sugaring season. The Momentum Series is made possible by the generous support of Joseph and Luann Conlon in honor of Thom O'Neil. \n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n Doors Open\n Doors Open: 2:30 pm	\n	\n	\n\n \n\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n \n Get Tickets \n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n \n Similar Events\n \n View All
