SUMMARY:School of Music Slow Jam
DESCRIPTION:Singer Songwriter \n\n \n Share:\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nAll are Welcome!\nWE LOVE TO MEET NEW PICKERS\,\nAND WE LOVE PUTTING ON A GOOD SHOW FOR LISTENERS!\n \nThis weekly program is made possible by the generous support of PHLY Foundation! \n \nTHERE ARE NO PRE-SHOW RESERVATIONS FOR THE JAMS! \n \nSUGGESTED DONATION AT THE DOOR. $5.00 per person \n \nOur jams are all about sharing songs\, making new friends\, and enjoying a relaxing and casual evening of irresistible string band music. \n \nALL are welcome to join the circle for an afternoon or evening playing and listening to classic grass\, new grass and folk favorites. We sometimes refer to our genre as eclectic acoustic. \n \nRed Spruce and Adirondack Song Dogs will kick off each session with a few tunes then open the floor for musicians to lead their favorite bluegrass tunes and folk music\, backed up by the other pickers in the gathering. Simple tunes are always popular! So sharpen up your axe\, come prepared with your song\, and let us hear some good old fast\, high and lonesome\, some slow and low\, or a good old favorite. All are welcome! \n \nWhat is a Slow Jam? \n \nIt is a group of string instrument players and singers who get together to have fun making music. The “slow” modifier indicates that it is targeted to the following musicians: people who have been playing solo and want to get used to playing in a group setting: people who have just learned how to play and want to play with others; people who have instruments that have been gathering dust for a “few” years; experienced players who are trying out playing instruments other than their primary instrument; people who are comfortable playing their instrument but want to become more comfortable singing/leading a song.. The tunes are played at 80 to 110 BPM and usually in basic keys such a G\, A\, D\, C major\, but it always sounds great to play in some minor keys such as “a”\, “e”\, and “g”. We will try to avoid “jam busters.” It is our hope that after this experience you will feel more comfortable playing at the many open jams and open mics that can be found in our area. \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n	\n Doors Open\n Doors Open: 7:30 pm	\n \n \n	\n	\n \n Price\n \n Member\n $26.03\n \n \n \n \n \n General\n $29.28\n \n \n \n \n \n Child or Student\n $14.64\n \n \n \n				 \n inclusive of fees\n \n \n \n \n	\n \n Get Tickets \n \n Streaming\n \n \n \n\n\n \n	\n \n Similar Events\n \n View All\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n \n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n	\n \n\n Reese Fulmer & The Carriage House Band\n\n Singer Songwriter\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n Sold Out \n \n \n Oct 23 • 8 PM \n \n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n \n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n	\n \n\n Aleksi Campagne\n\n Singer Songwriter\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n \n \n Oct 25 • 7 PM \n \n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n \n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n	\n \n\n Michael Jerling\n\n American Roots Folk Singer Songwriter\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n \n \n Oct 30 • 8 PM

SUMMARY:SIRSY
DESCRIPTION:Singer Songwriter \n\n \n Share:\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nIf you've experienced a SIRSY weekend at Lena's before\, you know why people come back for more than one night. And if you haven't? Well\, as the Rochester City Newspaper famously put it: “SIRSY is your favorite band\, you just don't know it yet.” \n \nSIRSY is the husband-and-wife duo of Melanie Krahmer and Rich Libutti\, two musicians who somehow create the sound\, energy and emotional wallop of a much bigger band. The Boston Globe calls them “the little band with the big sound.” Their fans might argue that their hearts are even bigger. \n \nMel is the powerhouse at the center of it all\, singing while playing drums\, and simultaneously triggering bass parts with her drumsticks. Then she'll move to piano\, melodica or pick up a flute for a solo. Rich surrounds it all with his road-worn Rickenbacker\, vintage effects and pedal bass\, somehow sounding like several guitarists at once. You really do have to see them do it\, and once you do\, you'll want to see it again! \n \nBut the musicianship is only part of why SIRSY audiences become so devoted to this band. Mel and Rich are funny\, candid storytellers and self-described nerds whose songs dig into resilience\, empowerment\, love\, fear and getting through the hard stuff. A SIRSY show can have you dancing\, laughing\, singing along and wiping away a tear\, many times within the span of a few songs. \n \nAnd in 2026\, there's even more to celebrate as SIRSY was once again named Rock-Pop Artist of the Year at the 2026 Thomas Edison Music Awards. They won BOTH Rock-Pop Artist of the Year and Record of the Year at the Thomas Edison Music Awards in 2024. Those awards join their 2025 induction into the Eddies Music Hall of Fame and their 2023 win for Solo/Duo Artist of the Year. \n \nThey've also been busy making new music. After an unexpected stretch away from touring while Rich recovered from a back injury\, Mel and Rich used the time to write and record. New songs have been arriving throughout 2026\, including “Little Phoenix\,” “Wolves” and “Good Times Roll.” \n \nThrough more than two decades on the road\, over a dozen records\, Mel's two bouts with cancer\, a pandemic\, injuries and thousands upon thousands of miles in a touring van appropriately named Obi Van Kenobi\, the heart of SIRSY has remained the same: two people making music together and inviting everyone in the room to become part of it. \n \nTheir songs have appeared on HBO\, MTV\, PBS\, the NFL and the hit series Shameless\, and they've shared stages with Brandi Carlile\, Grace Potter\, Joan Jett\, Train\, Maroon 5\, Cheap Trick\, Collective Soul and Blues Traveler. They've also worked with Grammy-winning producers Paul Q. Kolderie and David Kahne. \n \nBut SIRSY makes the most sense live\, especially in a room like Caffè Lena\, where all that sound\, humor\, heart and energy is happening just a few feet away. \n \nAnd because each night's show is different\, and because it's SIRSY\, one SIRSY show doesn't necessarily have to be enough. We have three nights and three unique shows! Come for one\, or two or make a weekend of it! \n \n“Krahmer has one of the most powerful and flexible voices you'll ever hear… Songs that have more hooks than a tackle box.” — Times Union \n \nSAMPLE SONG  \n \nStream this show live at Caffè Lena TV. SUMMARY:Folk Heritage Series: Connie Kaldor
DESCRIPTION:Singer Songwriter \n\n \n Share:\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nConnie Kaldor has spent more than 45 years creating beautiful songs\, telling great stories and making people laugh. \n \nBorn and raised in Saskatchewan\, Kaldor emerged during an extraordinary period in Canadian folk music\, alongside artists including Stan Rogers\, Ferron and Valdy. Armed with an unmistakable voice\, memorable melodies\, prairie-sized personality and a gift for finding the extraordinary in ordinary lives\, she became a festival headliner and built a devoted audience far beyond Canada.  \n \nBut Connie has never been the kind of singer-songwriter who simply walks onstage\, sings her songs and goes home. She actually began her professional life in theatre before leaving it behind for music in 1979\, and some of that theatrical instinct came with her. At a time when folk performers often kept a certain distance from their audiences\, Connie talked to hers. She joked with them. She told stories. She broke down the wall between performer and listener\, developing a style that could be uproariously funny one minute and deeply moving the next.  \n \nThe Boston Globe captured it beautifully\, calling her “a masterful performer\, wildly funny one moment\, deeply personal the next.” \n \nAlong the way\, Kaldor has become one of Canada's most celebrated folk artists. She is a three-time Juno Award winner\, a member of the Order of Canada\, a recipient of the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal and an honorary doctorate recipient from the University of Regina. She has toured throughout North America and across Europe\, India and China\, sharing stages with artists including Shawn Colvin\, Tracy Chapman\, Sylvia Tyson\, The Chieftains and Daniel Lanois.  \n \nAnd then there is “Wood River\,” which is one of Kaldor's best-known songs\, it has become something close to a Canadian folk standard\, sung by choirs and audiences throughout North America and named one of the top Canadian songs by Canadian Geographic.  \n \nMore than four decades into her career\, she is still writing songs that matter. Her 18th album\, Keep Going\, takes on perseverance\, resilience\, grief and loss with the emotional depth and humor that have always distinguished her work.  \n \nAwards and accolades tell you something about Connie Kaldor\, but they don't tell you what happens when she gets in front of an audience. For that\, you have to be in the room. And we can't think of a better room for it than Caffè Lena. We saw her at NERFA (Northeast Regional Folk Alliance) last year and were blown away. Come spend an evening with one of Canadian folk music's great originals—a songwriter\, storyteller and entertainer who can make you laugh\, break your heart\, and send you home carrying a song you didn't know you needed. \n \nSAMPLE SONG \n \nStream this show live at Caffè Lena TV.

SUMMARY:Buggy Jive
DESCRIPTION:American Roots Folk Singer Songwriter \n\n \n Share:\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n\n\n\n\nFormer SNL comedienne Leslie Jones recently called Buggy Jive\, “The black Albert Einstein”\, and she is onto something! Buggy Jive is an acoustic soul rock singer-songwriter from the Albany\, New York area\, equal parts Zeppelin and D’Angelo and Prince and Joni in sound and sensibility. \nSmart songs\, serious soul\, a little irreverence\, and a musical imagination that refuses to stay in its lane. Come discover Buggy Jive at Caffè Lena. \nSomewhere in a basement in Upstate New York\, a somewhat reclusive singer-songwriter has been quietly creating some of the most original music coming out of the Capital Region. His name is Buggy Jive\, and his distinctive blend of acoustic soul\, rock\, funk\, and folk is earning attention well beyond his basement walls. \nIn 2026\, Buggy took home four Capital Region Eddie Awards\, including Songwriter of the Year\, Album of the Year\, Solo/Duo Artist of the Year\, and Music Video of the Year. He has opened for Macy Gray and Ben Folds\, and earned a coveted Top Shelf feature in NPR's Tiny Desk Contest.  \nA gifted songwriter with a sharp wit and a love of literature\, Buggy draws inspiration from writers as varied as Ralph Ellison\, Toni Morrison\, T.S. Eliot\, and Joan Didion. His songs tackle love\, identity\, storytelling\, and the anxieties of modern life with intelligence\, humor\, and an occasional well-placed expletive. The music can be funky\, tender\, confrontational\, or downright funny\, sometimes all within the same song.  \nHis acclaimed 2025 album\, Icarus Ascending\, established him as a distinctive voice in contemporary songwriting. Now he's preparing its companion album\, Daedalus Down\, nine new songs that explore the complicated business of being human in complicated times. Recorded in his home studio\, the album includes the single "Meaning in the Morning\," a wonderfully unpredictable mix that sounds like nobody else but Buggy Jive. \nBuggy has deep roots in the Capital Region and is no stranger to the Caffè Lena stage. He has appeared as part of the Lena Go Round series\, The Beatle Caffe\, multiple artist tribute nights\, and most recently supporting acclaimed songwriter Joy Clark. We are thrilled to welcome him back for his first (and long overdue!) headlining show in our listening room. \nSample Song \nStream this show live at Caffè Lena TV. She has released nine critically acclaimed albums\, two of which were awarded Best Pop Album of the year by the Association for Independent Music. But where she shines brightest is on the live stage.  \n \nMaybe it's her background as a clinical psychologist\, because there's nobody who helps us unwind\, let our guard down\, and open our hearts like Lucy Kaplansky. She makes every audience feel like a circle of old friends catching up and reconnecting. Kaplansky is also part of folk supergroup Cry Cry Cry with Dar Williams and Richard Shindell.  \n \nHer recording of Roxy Music’s “More Than This” has over 12 million streams on Spotify\, and she has been featured on NPR’s All Things Considered\, Weekend Edition\, and Morning Edition as well as BBC Radio\, and CBS Sunday Morning\, and has sung harmony on albums by Suzanne Vega\, Bryan Ferry\, Nanci Griffith and Shawn Colvin.  \n \nHer latest release\, The Lucy Story (2025)\, is a retrospective of unreleased tracks\, demos\, and live recordings spanning her remarkable journey—from teenage bedroom tapes to international tours and studio collaborations with some of folk music’s finest. NPR’s Scott Simon has called her music “utterly beautiful and affecting\,” a fitting tribute to an artist whose songs capture the human experience with honesty\, warmth\, and grace. \n \nSAMPLE SONG \n \nStream this show live at Caffè Lena TV. SUMMARY:Willie Watson
DESCRIPTION:American Roots Folk Singer Songwriter \n\n \n Share:\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n\n\n\n\nPlease note: This show was rescheduled from its original 9/11/26 date due to an unforeseen scheduling conflict. \nBefore he turned 18\, Willie Watson had a moment that would quietly change everything. In an apple orchard in upstate New York\, singing old songs with a fellow traveler\, Ruby Love\, he felt something open. Music was more than music\, it was a way of making sense of heartbreak\, confusion\, and the shape of a life just beginning. He’s called it\, in his own way\, a duet with the divine. \nThat moment set him on a path that would soon lead to the formation of Old Crow Medicine Show\, and years spent carrying forward the deep well of American folk tradition. But the role he stepped into\, the keeper of old songs\, the “nice singer in the cowboy hat”\, would eventually begin to feel limiting. Life moved forward in complicated ways: marriage and fatherhood\, years on the road\, and the quiet disorientation of trying to hold onto yourself while the world keeps shifting around you. There were harder chapters\, too\, periods of excess and disconnection that nearly broke him.  \nWhat followed was slower\, more difficult work. Sobriety\, yes\, but also something deeper: a willingness to look back\, to face the parts of his story that shaped him\, and to begin again with intention. In that space\, songwriting became not just an outlet\, but a necessity. Watson began writing songs that didn’t hide behind tradition\, but stood inside his own experience\, songs that wrestle with memory\, regret\, tenderness\, and the fragile hope that comes with change.  \nHis self-titled album is the result of that reckoning. Created in close collaboration with songwriter Morgan Nagler and brought to life with a small\, intuitive band\, the songs feel like moments of discovery unfolding in real time\, shaped as much by silence and reflection as by melody. They look backward in order to move forward\, tracing the emotional terrain of a life lived fully\, and not always easily.  \nThere are still echoes of the old songs he’s long carried\, those timeless melodies\, familiar shapes\, but now they sit alongside something new. Watson has stepped fully into the role of songwriter\, adding his own stories to the tradition he once interpreted. The result is music that feels both rooted and deeply personal\, shaped by experience and delivered with a voice that has nothing left to prove. \nSAMPLE SONG \nJoin us for an evening with an artist who has spent a lifetime listening\, and is now\, finally\, telling his own story. \nStream this show live at Caffè Lena TV. We sometimes refer to our genre as eclectic acoustic. \nRed Spruce and Adirondack Song Dogs will kick off each session with a few tunes then open the floor for musicians to lead their favorite bluegrass tunes and folk music\, backed up by the other pickers in the gathering. Simple tunes are always popular! So sharpen up your axe\, come prepared with your song\, and let us hear some good old fast\, high and lonesome\, some slow and low\, or a good old favorite. All are welcome! \nWhat is a Slow Jam? \nIt is a group of string instrument players and singers who get together to have fun making music. \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n	\n Doors Open\n Doors Open: 7:30 pm	\n \n	\n	\n \n Price\n \n Member\n $23.86\n \n \n \n \n \n General\n $27.11\n \n \n \n \n \n Child or Student\n $13.56\n \n \n \n				 \n inclusive of fees\n \n \n \n	\n \n Get Tickets \n \n Streaming\n \n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Similar Events\n \n View All\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n \n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n	\n \n\n Bob & Sarah Amos\n\n American Roots Bluegrass Folk\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n \n \n Oct 22 • 7 PM \n \n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n \n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n	\n \n\n Reese Fulmer & The Carriage House Band\n\n Singer Songwriter\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n Sold Out \n \n \n Oct 23 • 8 PM \n \n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n \n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n	\n \n\n Reese Fulmer & The Carriage House Band\n\n Singer Songwriter\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n Sold Out \n \n \n Oct 24 • 8 PM
