SUMMARY:Online School of Music: Gretchen Peters Songwriting Intensive
DESCRIPTION:Multi-act Program Open Mic \n\n \n Share:\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	A two-part online songwriting intensive with Gretchen Peters For over two decades\, Gretchen Peters has been one of Nashville's most beloved and respected artists. Inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2014 by singer-songwriter Rodney Crowell\, who called her "both a songwriter and a poet\,” Peters has accumulated accolades as a songwriter for artists as diverse as Etta James\, Bonnie Raitt\, The Neville Brothers\, Patty Loveless\, George Strait\, Bryan Adams and Faith Hill. Her song “Independence Day” won a CMA Song of the Year award in 1995. She has been nominated for 2 Grammys\, a Golden Globe\, and numerous other awards. Part One: Sundays April 27 – May 18\, 2025 Part Two: Sundays June 8\, 15\, 22\, 29\, 2025 On ZOOM 2pm ET / 1pm CT / 12pm MT / 11am PT ( the two week break between is time for implementing what you learned in preparation for part two) Each class will run approximately 2 hours. All sessions are recorded and will be made available for review within 48 hours. One of the oldest phrases in any language is ‘tell me a story.’ Songwriting is storytelling\, and telling your story in a compelling way is all about authenticity and detail. It’s about what you say\, and what you don’t say. It’s about the truth\, but not necessarily the facts. In this workshop\, we’ll explore the process of songwriting—the art and the craft\, and the delicate balance between the two. We’ll learn how to keep a sense of creative play and when (and how) to welcome your inner critic into the room. We’ll find ways to work through “writer’s block.” We’ll learn that only through the specific do you achieve the universal—and that’s the holy grail in songwriting and all writing. We write to find out who we are\, and in the process we find out we are not alone. – Gretchen Class Description This 2 month intensive workshop with Gretchen will be divided into two parts. In Part One\, we’ll focus on: Writing authentically: how to build the back story for your charactersUsing detail and imagery in your lyricsUsing your subconscious as your compassHow to keep your sense of creative play alive and when to “invite the editor” into the writing roomFinding and fine-tuning your melody and chordsStructure: song forms and rhyme schemesIn Part Two\, you will bring your songs to play for Gretchen and the class each week\, and we’ll use these feedback sessions as “teachable moments” for the whole class. This is where a lot of the lessons of the previous four weeks really sink in – seeing the concepts we’ve talked about actually put into practice. You will “graduate” with many more tools for your songwriting toolkit\, including: Focusing your song’s POV – thinking of songs filmicallyHow to access your subconscious during the writing processHow verse order can change everythingWhy it’s better to let the song tell you “what it’s about”How to edit your song\, and what to look out for in the editing processWhat to do when you’re stuckSongwriting promptsThe care and feeding of your creative selfBring to our first class Pen & paper or your preferred way of taking notes An open heart and mind How to prepare: In addition\, please do Morning Pages for at least one week leading up to the class. Click here for a description of Morning Pages. It is ESSENTIAL that you do this exercise first thing in the morning – before coffee\, before breakfast\, before anything. Do not edit\, cross out\, analyze or otherwise “judge” your three pages – don’t think\, just write. This is meant to be stream of consciousness writing – it doesn’t need to have form\, rhyme\, or shape. You will not be required to show your Morning Pages to the class; it’s for your eyes only \n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n Doors Open\n Doors Open: 6:30 pm	\n	\n	\n\n \n\n	\n \n	\n \n Price\n \n Member\n $5.00\n \n \n \n \n \n General\n $5.00\n \n \n \n \n \n Child or Student\n $5.00\n \n \n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n \n Similar Events\n \n View All\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Open Mic\n\n Multi-act Program Open Mic\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Apr 6 • 7 PM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Storytelling Open Mic Featuring Kelvin Keraga\n\n Multi-act Program Open Mic Storytelling\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Apr 7 • 7 PM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Open Mic\n\n Multi-act Program Open Mic\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Apr 13 • 7 PM

DESCRIPTION:Multi-act Program Open Mic \n\n \n Share:\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nAll are Welcome! \nWE LOVE TO MEET NEW PICKERS\, \nAND WE LOVE PUTTING ON A GOOD SHOW FOR LISTENERS!\n \nTHERE ARE NO PRE-SHOW RESERVATIONS FOR THE JAMS! \n \nSUGGESTED DONATION AT THE DOOR. $5.00 per person \n \nOur jams are all about sharing songs\, making new friends\, and enjoying a relaxing and casual evening of irresistible string band music. \n \nALL are welcome to join the circle for an afternoon or evening playing and listening to classic grass\, new grass and folk favorites. We sometimes refer to our genre as eclectic acoustic. \n \nRed Spruce and Adirondack Song Dogs will kick off each session with a few tunes then open the floor for musicians to lead their favorite bluegrass tunes and folk music\, backed up by the other pickers in the gathering. Simple tunes are always popular! So sharpen up your axe\, come prepared with your song\, and let us hear some good old fast\, high and lonesome\, some slow and low\, or a good old favorite. All are welcome! \n \nWhat is a Slow Jam? \n \nIt is a group of string instrument players and singers who get together to have fun making music. The “slow” modifier indicates that it is targeted to the following musicians: people who have been playing solo and want to get used to playing in a group setting: people who have just learned how to play and want to play with others; people who have instruments that have been gathering dust for a “few” years; experienced players who are trying out playing instruments other than their primary instrument; people who are comfortable playing their instrument but want to become more comfortable singing/leading a song.. The tunes are played at 80 to 110 BPM and usually in basic keys such a G\, A\, D\, C major\, but it always sounds great to play in some minor keys such as “a”\, “e”\, and “g”. We will try to avoid “jam busters.” It is our hope that after this experience you will feel more comfortable playing at the many open jams and open mics that can be found in our area. \n \n \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n	\n Doors Open\n Doors Open: 6:00 pm	\n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n \n	\n \n Similar Events\n \n View All\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Open Mic\n\n Multi-act Program Open Mic\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Apr 6 • 7 PM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Storytelling Open Mic Featuring Kelvin Keraga\n\n Multi-act Program Open Mic Storytelling\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Apr 7 • 7 PM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Open Mic\n\n Multi-act Program Open Mic\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Apr 20 • 7 PM

Early groups such as the Blue Sky Boys\, the Monroe Brothers\, the Louvin Brothers\, and the Delmore Brothers helped develop the roots of the sound that we know as bluegrass. Each week we will listen to recorded examples of these and other duet and bluegrass artists and will work on singing and playing some of their best known songs.  \n \nThis class is NOT intended for beginning musicians looking to learn the basics of their instruments. Rather\, it is aimed at those who can play their acoustic instrument\, (guitar\, banjo\, bass\, fiddle\, mandolin\, dobro) and are interested in exploring the music's roots to help them fine tune their sound with a duet partner. \n \n \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n	\n Doors Open\n Doors Open: 6:00 pm	\n \n \n \n \n	\n \n Get Tickets \n \n \n\n\n \n	\n \n Similar Events\n \n View All\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Open Mic\n\n Multi-act Program Open Mic\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Apr 6 • 7 PM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Storytelling Open Mic Featuring Kelvin Keraga\n\n Multi-act Program Open Mic Storytelling\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Apr 7 • 7 PM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Open Mic\n\n Multi-act Program Open Mic\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Apr 13 • 7 PM

SUMMARY:Beekman Street Art Fair (on Beekman St!)
DESCRIPTION:Multi-act Program Open Mic \n\n \n Share:\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nBeekman Street Art Fair \n \nSunday\, June 1 – 10 AM – 5 PM \n \nJoin us on Beekman Street in Saratoga's Arts District for a one-day\, fun-day Sunday! The Fair features a juried fine art and craft show featuring 61 artists\, a live music tent booked and amplified by Caffe Lena\, and food trucks along Beekman Street from Washington Street to West Circular. Held rain or shine\, this event is family-friendly with free admission.  \n \nBeekman Street Art Fair is produced by the Saratoga Springs Arts District\, with a generous Community Arts Grant from Saratoga Arts funded by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Kathy Hochul and the New York State Legislature. \n \nWe have a great line-up of live bands to offer you! \n \nSCHEDULE \n \n10 am Folk Club Kids with Oona Grady\, James Gascoyne & Dan Berggren \n \n11 am Question of the Century \n \n12 pm Lovella & The Seth Warden Band \n \n 1 pm Prakash Slim \n \n 2 pm Mostly Modern Ensemble \n \n 3 pm Millstone Rounders \n \n 4 pm Reese Fulmer & The Carriage House Band \n \nARTIST INFORMATION \n \nFolk Club Kids with Oona\, James & Dan \n \nStart your day with bouncy fiddle\, banjo and guitar tunes and original songs with a special message for children! \n \nQuestion of the Century \n \nFrancis Davies and Ellie Ushakov are fans of 1960s folk music. They make original music together as Question of the Century\, deploying traditional instruments\, singing in harmony\, and keeping their lyrics smart and spare. \n \nLovella with The Seth Warden Band \n \nTeen singer-songwriter Lovella writes expansive\, emotional pop songs. She writes the lyrics\, and her Dad\, music teacher\, band leader and singer-songwriter Seth Warden\, writes the music. \n \nPrakash Slim \n \nPrakash discovered his love for traditional American blues while growing up on the other side of the world in rural Nepal. His mastery of the tradition comes from endless hours studying the great blues masters\, including Charley Patton\, Robert Johnson\, Bukka White\, Fred McDowell\, Mississippi John Hurt and Blind Blake. \n \nMostly Modern Ensemble \n \nWith a vibrant string quartet and percussion\, they blend classical\, Celtic\, Latin\, film scores\, and modern tunes into an energetic\, interactive experience.  \n \nMillstone Rounders \n \nThis diverse band of A-list musicians creates set lists like no other! A gospel hymn might be followed by an old English ballad\, a jug band breakdown\, an Irish pub song\, some country blues\, and then a rollicking Scottish fiddle tune. \n \nReese Fulmer & The Carriage House Band \n \nWith a rotating cast of talented players\, a broad and dynamic body of work\, and a refusal to set anything in stone\, their shows are always fresh\, full of joy\, and hard to describe. Think Wilco with hints of Prine and Zappa. \n \n \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n	\n Doors Open\n Doors Open: 6:00 pm	\n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n \n	\n \n Similar Events\n \n View All\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Open Mic\n\n Multi-act Program Open Mic\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Apr 6 • 7 PM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Storytelling Open Mic Featuring Kelvin Keraga\n\n Multi-act Program Open Mic Storytelling\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Apr 7 • 7 PM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Open Mic\n\n Multi-act Program Open Mic\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Apr 20 • 7 PM

SUMMARY:Annie & The Hedonists Album Release Concert
DESCRIPTION:Multi-act Program Open Mic \n\n \n Share:\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nCaffè Lena favorites Annie & the Hedonists return to celebrate the release of their brand new album\, Live at Caffè Lena—a dynamic collection of blues\, vintage jazz\, and Americana recorded right here at Lena’s and produced by Oscar-winning\, seven-time Grammy-winning engineer Joel Moss. \n \nThis soulful Saratoga-based band blends the spirit of swing-era jazz with the storytelling traditions of folk and roots music. With Annie Rosen’s captivating vocals\, the masterful musicianship of Jonny Rosen (guitar)\, Peter Davis (clarinet\, piano)\, Don Young (bass)\, and renowned drummer Jerry Marotta (Peter Gabriel\, Indigo Girls)\, the band transforms every performance into a journey through musical history. \n \nTheir new album features 11 tracks—8 previously unreleased—and showcases guest appearances from Cliff Lyons (Average White Band) and a traditional jazz horn section. It’s a joyful time capsule of the band’s groove\, wit\, and timeless sound. \n \nThis is the perfect night to experience the Hedonists’ toe-tapping magic\,a band that’s been called “a sly\, groovy throwback to the Jazz Age” (Caffè Lena Executive Director\, Sarah Craig) and “an intoxicating listen” (Joel Moss).  \n \nCelebrate the album. Relive the performance. Dance in your seat. \n \nA Note from the Band: \n \nThis performance will be extra meaningful for us. Jonny Rosen\, recovering from shoulder surgery and unable to play guitar\, will pass the reins to the incredible Don Young for the night and lend his talents in other creative ways. We’re also thrilled to welcome Dylan Perrillo on bass and Cliff Lyons on saxophone to the stage. Annie is bouncing back strong with a brand-new knee\, and the whole band is grateful for the healing and the music that keeps us moving forward. Join us for a night of celebration\, resilience\, and the joyful sounds of Live at Caffè Lena! \n \nOne night only at the venue where it all began. \n \nSAMPLE SONG \n \nStream this show live at Caffè Lena TV. After a decade of co-writing smash singles like Panic! At The Disco’s five-times platinum “High Hopes” and Pitbull’s “Bad Man\,” Jenny returns to the stage with her first full-length solo album in ten years—an achingly beautiful exploration of loss\, resilience\, and self-discovery. \n \nKnown for her incredible ability to craft songs that resonate deeply\, Jenny’s writing has spanned genres and media\, with her work appearing in Weeds\, Fifty Shades Freed\, and performed on the Grammy stage. But with Avalanche\, she’s turned the spotlight inward\, creating lush\, emotionally charged songs that blend her infectious pop sensibilities with dreamy\, layered arrangements. \n \nAfter years of writing for others\, launching wildly popular podcasts (Buffering The Vampire Slayer\, The eX-Files)\, and growing as an artist\, Jenny is now embracing a new chapter: one where her own stories take center stage. Join us in our intimate listening room to hear the voice and stories behind some of today’s most iconic hits and experience the powerful\, raw honesty of her latest work. \n \nDon’t miss this rare chance to see Jenny Owen Youngs up close\, sharing the songs that mark her return to center stage. With heartfelt lyrics\, soaring melodies\, and the warmth of our intimate venue\, this will be an unforgettable night of connection through music. \n \nSample Song \n \nStream this show live at CaffeLenaTV. Chuck “Rochmon” Vosganian usually spins the records and gets the conversation flowing. Bring a brown bag lunch. Coffee and tea are provided. \n \nThe Captain Fun Listening Library occupying the north wall in the Caffè Lena lobby is comprised of 1\,516 vinyl albums and several hundred CDs selected from Al “Captain Fun” McKenney’s expertly curated collection. This treasure trove of folk\, blues and jazz was left us in 2015 and we share it through our monthly listening hour\, as Al wished. \n \nEnjoy the memories these records bring back\, and dig deep into American roots music. \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n	\n Doors Open\n Doors Open: 6:00 pm	\n \n \n \n \n	\n \n Get Tickets \n \n \n\n\n \n	\n \n Similar Events\n \n View All\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Open Mic\n\n Multi-act Program Open Mic\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Apr 6 • 7 PM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Storytelling Open Mic Featuring Kelvin Keraga\n\n Multi-act Program Open Mic Storytelling\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Apr 7 • 7 PM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Open Mic\n\n Multi-act Program Open Mic\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Apr 13 • 7 PM

A true storyteller and master of fingerpicking guitar\, Roy has shared stages with Rev. Gary Davis\, Pink Anderson\, Bonnie Raitt\, Hot Tuna\, JJ Cale\, and more\, earning a place among the greats. \n \nHere are just a few of Roy’s accomplishments\, \n \n\nFirst solo acoustic blues album to receive 5 stars in Downbeat Magazine\nIn the late 80s he toured the east coast with Bonnie Raitt & appeared on The Grand Ole Opry\, which led to his almost 30 appearances on NASHVILLE NOW's\, Ralph Emory Show\nHis latest album The Good Book hit #3 on AirPlayDirect's Americana charts ( #1 was Guy Clark & #2 was the late Townes Van Zandt. Folkdj.org had Roy in the top 3 artists for July.)\nHe’s been featured on a PBS Special & on NPR’s Fresh Air with Terry Gross\nRoy is a regular instructor at Jorma Kaukonen’s Fur Peace Ranch \n\nRoy is not only a blues master but a born entertainer. With his "Tour Bus" in town\, every show becomes a one-man blues-fest\, full of authentic licks\, legendary stories\, and music that transcends time. \n \nWe are so excited to have Roy back on the Caffè Lena stage! \n \n \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n	\n Doors Open\n Doors Open: 6:00 pm	\n \n \n \n \n	\n \n Get Tickets \n \n \n\n\n \n	\n \n Similar Events\n \n View All\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Open Mic\n\n Multi-act Program Open Mic\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Apr 6 • 7 PM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Storytelling Open Mic Featuring Kelvin Keraga\n\n Multi-act Program Open Mic Storytelling\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Apr 7 • 7 PM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Open Mic\n\n Multi-act Program Open Mic\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Apr 13 • 7 PM

SUMMARY:Lena Go Round-Songwriters Showcase Hosted by Erin Harkes
DESCRIPTION:Multi-act Program Open Mic \n\n \n Share:\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nFor 65 years\, Caffè Lena has been a place where great artists get their start—a stage where music is more than just sound; it’s stories\, community\, and discovery. The Lena Go Round continues that tradition\, offering a monthly showcase of rising songwriting talent\, curated and hosted by powerhouse musician\, comedian\, entrepreneur\, and all around powerhouse\, Erin Harkes. \n \nWhat makes Lena Go Round special? \n \n\nIt is a curated lineup of the best up-and-coming songwriters—handpicked to deliver unforgettable performances\nIt is a true “in the round” experience—where songwriters take turns sharing their music and stories\, creating an intimate and inspiring atmosphere\nIt is a direct link to Caffè Lena’s legacy—this stage launched careers\, and Lena Go Round continues to nurture the next generation of folk\, Americana\, and indie artists\n\nThe lineup changes every month\, but one thing is constant: you will always hear something fresh\, moving\, and unforgettable. \n \nWhether you're a lifelong folk fan or just love discovering the next big thing\, Lena Go Round is the place to be. \n \nCome be part of a Capital District must-see event\, where the best of the best take the stage before the world catches on. \n \nMay's lineup is Sydney Worthley\, Jes Hudak and TJ Foster. \n \nSAMPLE SONG  \n \nStream this show live at Caffè Lena TV. Enjoy two weeks of access with your live stream ticket. \n \nARTIST BIOS \n \nErin Harkes \n \nLocal favorite Erin Harkes has been called “the busiest woman in show biz” (NYS Music)\, and for good reason. Regularly voted Best Singer/Songwriter\, Solo Musician and Comedian in the Capital Region\, she’s a dynamic performer equally at home singing and telling jokes. Since adding stand-up to her repertoire in 2012\, Erin has played major comedy clubs across North America and is a regular at Funny Bone Comedy Clubs nationwide. Whether on guitar or behind the mic\, she commands attention with her big\, soulful voice—often compared to Janis Joplin—and her deeply personal songwriting\, shaped by resilience and life’s ups and downs. Erin has shared the stage with national music acts including 10\,000 Maniacs and Pat Benatar\, and wowed TV audiences with her winning performance on Jimmy Fallon’s Battle of the Instant Bands. \n \nSydney Worthley: \n \nSydney Worthley rings out melodies and vocal parts nodding towards Florence and the Machine\, while songwriting styles comparable to Taylor Swift and Phoebe Bridgers shine through her songs. By writing from personal brooding memory\, Worthley strives to make connections with her audience through her raw lyricism. \n \n"Right when Worthley’s voice struck the microphone\, it was easy to hear the effortless power and true passion behind her enchanting voice." -September Sinclair \n \n  \n \nJes Hudak : \n \nJes Hudak is a piano-playing singer/songwriter from Saratoga Springs\, NY. She was most known for competing on Bravo's songwriting reality show\, Platinum Hit\, in which she placed second. She continues to write\, record and release her music independently while raising her 2 daughters. You can listen to her new album "Photographic Memory" on all streaming sites.  \n \n  \n \nTJ Foster: Despite wearing a plethora of hats within the industry\, these days TJ Foster is probably best known for fronting local indie-punk band\, E.R.I.E. (who took home Alt/Indie Artist of the Year at the 2025 Eddies Awards!) and simultaneously playing guitar for songwriter extraordinaire\, Sydney Worthley (sometimes even within the same show). The truth is\, his prolificity is remarkable\, having put out so much music in various projects over the years\, it would be a bore to list it all. You’ll just have to trust us. \n \nLately\, he’s received several casual comparisons to Michael Stipe\, which he’s yet to understand\, other than the fact that he wakes up most days wondering if this truly is the end of the world as we know it.  \n \nWith songs ranging from achingly existential to sarcastically observant\, the throughline that connects them all is earnestness. Whether it be loud and bombastic a la E.R.I.E.’s latest concept effort “The Highs\, The Lows\, And Everything in Between”\, somber and intimate a la his 2018 solo record “First Person Vol. 1”\, or even conceptually astute like The Cast Before the Break’s 2007 masterpiece “As Your Shoulders Turn On You”\, Foster’s songwriting is rife with emotion and a deep yearning to understand the world around him. \n \n \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n	\n Doors Open\n Doors Open: 6:00 pm	\n \n \n \n \n	\n \n Get Tickets \n \n \n\n\n \n	\n \n Similar Events\n \n View All\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Open Mic\n\n Multi-act Program Open Mic\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Apr 6 • 7 PM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Storytelling Open Mic Featuring Kelvin Keraga\n\n Multi-act Program Open Mic Storytelling\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Apr 7 • 7 PM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Open Mic\n\n Multi-act Program Open Mic\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Apr 13 • 7 PM

SUMMARY:Peak Jazz Series : The Levin Brothers
DESCRIPTION:Multi-act Program Open Mic \n\n \n Share:\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nFor over a decade\, brothers Tony Levin (bass) and Pete Levin (keys) have been delighting jazz lovers as The Levin Brothers—a dynamic quartet originally formed as a tribute to the elegant 1950s stylings of Oscar Pettiford and Julius Watkins. Today\, their sound has evolved into a compelling blend of nostalgic cool jazz\, soulful originals\, and reimagined covers of Peter Gabriel\, Steely Dan\, Paul Simon\, Ralph Towner\, and more. \n \nFrom intimate clubs to major jazz festivals\, The Levin Brothers have kept their sound fresh by rotating a stellar lineup of guest musicians over the years\, including Erik Lawrence\, David Spinozza\, Jeff Ciampa\, Ali Ryerson\, and Ken Gioffre. In recent tours\, they’ve found a perfect musical match with saxophone virtuoso Pat LaBarbera and drummer Joe LaBarbera—forming a powerhouse quartet of two pairs of brothers\, naturally named “Band of Brothers.” \n \nIn January 2024\, Band of Brothers hit the road for a 14-show West Coast tour\, stretching from Southern California to Vancouver and ending in Seattle. By the tour's end\, the band was truly on fire—and now\, they’re bringing that same magic our way and including sax virtuoso Pat La Barbera. For years Pat was a featured soloist with the Buddy Rich band\, as well as a member of Elvin Jones' quartet.  \n \nThis Caffè Lena performance is part of a Northeast spring tour that marks a long-awaited return for The Levin Brothers. With Tony back from his global tour with Peter Gabriel and Stickmen\, and Pete fresh off his European gigs with the Gil Evans Remembered Band\, the group is thrilled to reunite and rekindle the spark that’s made them fan favorites in both jazz and progressive music circles. \n \nExpect a night of musical mastery\, brotherly banter\, and deep grooves from four world-class players who bring decades of experience—and a whole lot of heart—to every performance. \n \n The Peak Jazz Series is made possible by the generous support of Joseph & Luann Conlon in memory of Corrine Simonds. \n \nSAMPLE SONG \n \nStream this show live at Caffè Lena TV. DESCRIPTION:Multi-act Program Open Mic \n\n \n Share:\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nOne of today’s most prolific voices\, Josh Ritter has released eleven studio albums including 2019’s widely acclaimed\, Fever Breaks\, of which NPR Music praised\, “He remains a hydrant of ideas while embodying an endless capacity for empathy and indignation\, often within a single song.” Celebrated for his richly crafted storytelling\, heartfelt lyrics\, and enchanting blend of folk\, rock\, and Americana\, Ritter’s songs are often rooted in personal experiences and historical themes. The New York Times reflects\, “Harking back to Bob Dylan\, Bruce Springsteen and maybe a little Mark Knopfler\, Mr. Ritter has always been a slinger of serious ideas and high-flown imagery.” \n \nIn addition to his work as a musician\, Ritter is also a national best-selling author\, having released two novels to date: 2021’s The Great Glorious Goddamn of It All and 2011’s Bright’s Passage. Released to critical attention\, Stephen King wrote in The New York Times Book Review that Bright’s Passage “shines with a compressed lyricism that recalls Ray Bradbury in his prime … This is the work of a gifted novelist.”  \n \nHis latest album\, released in October 2024\, Heaven\, Or Someplace As Nice\, is a nine-song collection\, featuring legendary jazz guitarist Bill Frisell. It was recorded live in the studio over just a few days\, capturing an intimate and organic sound with minimal overdubs. Described by Ritter as his "cosmic cowboy mini-album\," these original songs evoke a timeless quality\, perfect for listening around a campfire or during a quiet evening at home. SUMMARY:Josh Ritter
Notably\, the album includes Ritter's own rendition of "Only A River\," a song he originally penned for Bob Weir's 2016 solo record\, Blue Mountain\, and which Bob Dylan covered during live performances in 2023. \n \nJoin us at Caffè Lena for a rare opportunity to see Josh Ritter solo in our intimate listening room and immerse yourself in the heartfelt storytelling and rich melodies that define his music. \n \nSAMPLE SONG \n \nCan't make the show in person? Give a quick listen to this gentleman\, and let Fredericks’ sand-textured vocals and honest lyrics whisk you away to the illusion of a simpler time.” – Elissa Ebersold\, Nippertown \n \nAmericana singer-songwriter\, Sawyer Fredericks\, hailing from a farm in central New York\, began playing local farmers markets\, open mics\, and iconic New York venues at the age of 13. With his deep\, beyond-his-years original lyrics and melodies\, soulful vocals\, and powerful live performances\, Sawyer seemed an unlikely match for reality tv\, but he won over audiences to win season 8 of NBC's The Voice. \n \nFredericks released his major label debut\, A Good Storm\, with Republic Records\, an impressive blend of soulful Folk\, blues\, and rock\, entirely self or co-written. He chose to go independent for Hide Your Ghost (2018). Fully written and produced by Fredericks\, HYG sheds the high gloss major label treatment and stays true to his honest stripped-down style. \n \nIn 2020\, with song premieres in People Magazine\, American Songwriter\, DittyTV and an album preview in Billboard\, Fredericks released Flowers For You. With this project\, “Fredericks is expanding his sound even more\, moving from bluesy folk into more expansive Americana\, rock and tines of jazz” ( Concert Hopper. ) The album was included in No Depression Readers’ 50 Favorite Roots Music Albums of 2020\, and several tracks won top awards from the 18th annual Independent Music Awards\,"Born" in the Folk/Singer-Songwriter category and "Amen" the Vox Pop award in the Social Action Song category. “Born” was in rotation on SiriusXM’s Coffee House channel and included in Amazon Music's editorial 'Fresh Folk and Americana' playlist. \n \nIn January 2021\, Sawyer released his rendition of the iconic “What A Wonderful World” with an accompanying animated video\, and in 2023\, Sawyer released The Golden Tree EP\, featuring his band and Sav Buist and Katie Larson of The Accidentals. \n \nIn the spring of 2024\, Sawyer and his band returned to Dreamland in Woodstock to record a full-length album. \n \nSample Song \n \nCan't make it in person?
