SUMMARY:65th Anniversary Folk Heritage Series: Jamcrackers
DESCRIPTION:American Roots Bluegrass Celtic Family Folk \n\n \n Share:\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nAs part of our 65th Anniversary Folk Heritage Series\, we bring you Jamcrackers. Seasoned solo performers Dan Berggren\, Peggy Lynn and Dan Duggan have combined talents to create a dynamic trio named in honor of the river drivers who broke up log jams. They worked hard to find solutions\, to get things rolling again\, and it was a job that couldn't be done alone. Berggren\, Lynn and Duggan feel the same way about their music. These good friends and accomplished musicians bring a rare blend of humor\, history and musical spirit to their performances. “Although the Jamcrackers … will win you over with their front porch style picking and charm\, there’s much more to be appreciated from their music.” (Sing Out!) \n \nAward-winning educator and songwriter Dan Berggren has deep roots in the Adirondacks. His music reflects the spirit and the hardworking people of that region. Author and environmental activist Bill McKibben says: “Dan is a throwback to the old role of the folk singer… he’s articulating things that need to be said right now.” Peggy Lynn writes and performs songs\, using her bluesy alto voice to sing about women and natural beauty of the North Country. With Sandra Weber\, she co-authored Breaking Trail: Remarkable Women of the Adirondacks. In 2005\, both Lynn and Berggren received the Adirondack Mountain Club’s Education Award. \n \nNational Hammered Dulcimer Champion Dan Duggan is known from Maine to California for his wizardry on the hammered dulcimer\, flat-picking guitar\, and keyboards. In addition to his 18 recordings\, Duggan’s dulcimer talents are spotlighted on Paul Simon’s Grammy-nominated album You’re the One. Also known for his dance calling\, Duggan actually calls while playing the hammered dulcimer. Together\, this trio sparks a rare chemistry and a guaranteed good time. \n \nSAMPLE SONG \n \nStream this show live at CaffeLenaTV. SUMMARY:William Elliott Whitmore
DESCRIPTION:Bluegrass Instructional Workshop \n\n \n Share:\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nRaw. Rooted. Unshakable. \n \nArmed with a banjo\, a bass drum\, and one of the most commanding voices in Americana\, William Elliott Whitmorebrings his fiercely original sound to the Caffè Lena stage. Hailing from the rich soil of his family farm in Lee County\, Iowa—where he still lives today—Whitmore’s music is grounded\, gritty\, and deeply authentic. \n \nDrawing from nearly two decades of performing\, Whitmore’s style is steeped in the folk tradition\, yet infused with the spirit of punk\, blues\, and soul. His early influences—from Bad Brains and Minutemen to rural gospel and field hollers—helped shape a sound that is both timeless and defiantly his own. \n \nWith just a banjo in hand and a kick drum at his feet\, he’s shared stages with an eclectic range of artists\, including Frank Turner\, Trampled By Turtles\, Clutch\, and Chris Cornell\, winning over audiences across the U.S. and beyond. Whether he’s headlining festivals like Stagecoach or playing a quiet room like Caffè Lena\, Whitmore leaves nothing behind—offering music that speaks to the struggle\, the joy\, and the strength of the human spirit. \n \nCome experience one of modern folk’s most powerful voices in an intimate setting that lets every lyric ring true. \n \nSAMPLE SONG \n \nStream this show live at Caffè Lena TV. Recorded in Woodstock\, NY at Sun Mountain Studio and co-produced by Wesley Schultz of The Lumineers\, the album strips away excess\, placing Rodriguez’s soulful voice and poignant lyrics front and center. \n \nKnown as a founding member of indie folk favorite Elephant Revival\, Rodriguez now offers something deeply personal — songs shaped by heartbreak\, transformation\, and creative risk. From the reflective beauty of “El Dorado” to the raw honesty of “Anything and Everything\,” each track feels like an offering of lived experience. \n \nBlending folk\, Americana\, and indie influences\, Rodriguez brings warmth and authenticity to the stage. Harboring Pearls features contributions from James Felice and Jesske Hume of The Felice Brothers\, and captures the spirit of Woodstock’s storied musical landscape. \n \nSAMPLE SONG \n \nJoin us at Caffè Lena for an intimate evening with Daniel Rodriguez — a night of melodies woven with integrity\, soul\, and the search for meaning in uncertain times. \n \nThe Bright Series is made possible by a generous gift from Kevin & Claudia Bright. \n \nCan't make it in person? We sometimes refer to our genre as eclectic acoustic. \n \nRed Spruce and Adirondack Song Dogs will kick off each session with a few tunes then open the floor for musicians to lead their favorite bluegrass tunes and folk music\, backed up by the other pickers in the gathering. Simple tunes are always popular! So sharpen up your axe\, come prepared with your song\, and let us hear some good old fast\, high and lonesome\, some slow and low\, or a good old favorite. All are welcome! \n \nWhat is a Slow Jam? \n \nIt is a group of string instrument players and singers who get together to have fun making music. The “slow” modifier indicates that it is targeted to the following musicians: people who have been playing solo and want to get used to playing in a group setting: people who have just learned how to play and want to play with others; people who have instruments that have been gathering dust for a “few” years; experienced players who are trying out playing instruments other than their primary instrument; people who are comfortable playing their instrument but want to become more comfortable singing/leading a song.. The tunes are played at 80 to 110 BPM and usually in basic keys such a G\, A\, D\, C major\, but it always sounds great to play in some minor keys such as “a”\, “e”\, and “g”. We will try to avoid “jam busters.” It is our hope that after this experience you will feel more comfortable playing at the many open jams and open mics that can be found in our area. \n \n \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n \n \n	\n	\n \n Price\n \n General\n $195.00\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n \n	\n \n Similar Events\n \n View All\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Playwright’s Jam\n\n Open Mic Other Storytelling Workshop\n \n \n \n \n class\n \n \n\n \n Apr 5 • 1:30 PM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Mandolin Vitamins – Tunes\, Techniques and Ensemble Music\n\n Bluegrass Instructional\n \n \n \n \n class\n \n \n\n \n Apr 6 • 10 AM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Folk Club Kids\n\n American Roots Bluegrass Celtic Family Folk\n \n \n \n \n class\n \n \n\n \n Apr 8 • 10:30 AM

SUMMARY:JAZZ at Caffè Lena: Chuck Lamb with Special Guest Randy Brecker
DESCRIPTION:American Roots Bluegrass Celtic Family Folk \n\n \n Share:\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nThe JAZZ at Caffe Lena series is hosted by resident composer\, pianist\, and jazz master Chuck Lamb\, with support from music producer Joel Moss. Each month\, Lamb invites a top-flight jazz artist to join his trio on stage. Lamb\, a member of the Brubeck Brothers Quartet since 2002\, is not only an exciting and emotive pianist but also a prolific composer of jazz\, fusion\, classical\, and world music. Through these collaborations\, the artists stretch their creative boundaries\, exploring new musical landscapes and creating spontaneous\, exhilarating performances. \n \nThis July\, Chuck Lamb is joined by Randy Brecker\, a musician whose career spans more than six decades of shaping and stretching the boundaries of jazz. Known for his work on trumpet and flugelhorn\, Brecker has played across genres and generations—appearing on landmark recordings by artists as varied as Horace Silver\, Art Blakey\, Jaco Pastorius\, James Taylor\, Parliament/Funkadelic\, and Steely Dan\, as well as being part of the Brecker Brothers for three decades. \n \nHis musical path has taken him from the hard bop of Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers to pioneering jazz fusion with the Brecker Brothers\, and onward to orchestral collaborations and projects rooted in Brazilian music. What ties it all together is a distinctive voice on the horn: precise\, lyrical\, and always listening. \n \nSAMPLE SONG \n \nAt Caffè Lena\, he’ll step into conversation with Lamb and his trio in the kind of setting where nuance and interplay shine. It’s a chance to hear one of jazz’s most thoughtful improvisers in an evening shaped not by spectacle\, but by deep musicianship and shared curiosity. \n \n \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n \n \n \n \n	\n \n Streaming\n \n \n \n\n\n \n	\n \n Similar Events\n \n View All\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Mandolin Vitamins – Tunes\, Techniques and Ensemble Music\n\n Bluegrass Instructional\n \n \n \n \n class\n \n \n\n \n Apr 6 • 10 AM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Music Theory for Jammers with Bruce Thompson\n\n American Roots Bluegrass Workshop\n \n \n \n \n class\n \n \n\n \n Apr 8 • 7 PM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Guitar Workshops with Bruce Thompson\n\n Bluegrass Instructional Workshop\n \n \n \n \n class\n \n \n\n \n Apr 9 • 9 AM

From bringing the Ryman Auditorium crowd to its feet\, to earning praise from Melissa Etheridge and Rolling Stone France\, Jax is quickly emerging as one of the most exciting voices in roots rock today. \n \nGuitar World hails her performances as "Hendrixian… with shades of Jimmy Page and Eddie Van Halen\," while Spotify has highlighted her work on its Modern Blues Rock and Ultimate Blues Rock playlists. \n \nSAMPLE SONG \n \nJoin us at Caffè Lena for an intimate night of powerful vocals\, searing guitar\, and songs that hit straight to the heart. DESCRIPTION:American Roots Bluegrass Celtic Family Folk \n\n \n Share:\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nWith intricate guitar work\, searing lyrics\, and an unflinching point of view\, Sunny War blurs the lines between punk\, folk\, blues\, and soul. Her latest album\, Armageddon in a Summer Dress\, is a powerful and personal meditation on loss\, resilience\, and transformation. Written in a creaky old house in Chattanooga—while unknowingly hallucinating from a gas leak—these songs pull from real ghosts and imagined ones\, weaving poetic stories of all the selves we leave behind. \n \nA breakout star following her 2022 album Anarchist Gospel\, Sunny has shared stages with Bonnie Raitt\, Mitski\, Iron & Wine\, and Sarah Shook. Her signature blend of punk urgency and roots tradition has earned her praise for both her virtuosic guitar playing and her fearless songwriting. Whether it’s the snarling “Walking Contradiction” featuring Steve Ignorant of Crass\, or the introspective “Ghosts”\, Sunny brings an unmatched rawness and clarity to her work. \n \nHer songs are defiant and deeply human\, layered with emotion and steeped in tradition\, while never confined by it. Fans of artists like Valerie June\, Rhiannon Giddens\, and Patti Smith will feel at home in Sunny’s presence. \n \nJoin us for an evening of cathartic\, genre-defying music from one of today’s most compelling and uncompromising voices. \n \nSAMPLE SONG \n \nCan't make it in person? Want to share a theater piece you’re writing? \n \nJoin us for the 1st Sunday monthly Playwright’s Jams! \n \nA monthly meetup hosted by Caffe Lena for local writers\, actors & directors \n \nThe First Sunday of the Month 1:30pm- 4:00pm \n \nDoors open at 1:00; Casting begins at 1:15pm and Readings start at 1:30pm! \n \nBring your great ideas\, your new scripts\, your edits and your friends for an inspiring afternoon fo theater in the making. \n \n\nPlaywrights should bring a highlighted script for each of their actors and one extra for stage directions\nBring a short scene (7-8 minutes). Cast your actors from the audience\, including your fellow playwrights. Give them brief directions and then put them on stage to read your script. We’ll go around the room after the reading and let everyone give a “popcorn” reaction (one word!).\nEach meeting will include 6 or 7 scenes selected at random from those submitted. After the readings we’ll have time to hang out and get acquainted. \nThis event will be co-hosted by Michael Wells-Oakes and Vivian Nesbitt\nPlaywright Nice! We foster a diverse community that has a great time making art and helping one another get better. Excessive profanity\, explicit sexual themes and “humor” that unkindly targets a specific group undermines this goal. It is up to the discretion of the host to enforce the house standards. \n\n \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n \n \n	\n	\n \n Price\n \n General\n $195.00\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n \n	\n \n Similar Events\n \n View All\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Playwright’s Jam\n\n Open Mic Other Storytelling Workshop\n \n \n \n \n class\n \n \n\n \n Apr 5 • 1:30 PM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Mandolin Vitamins – Tunes\, Techniques and Ensemble Music\n\n Bluegrass Instructional\n \n \n \n \n class\n \n \n\n \n Apr 6 • 10 AM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Folk Club Kids\n\n American Roots Bluegrass Celtic Family Folk\n \n \n \n \n class\n \n \n\n \n Apr 8 • 10:30 AM

SUMMARY:Kieran Kane & Rayna Gellert
DESCRIPTION:American Roots Bluegrass Celtic Family Folk \n\n \n Share:\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nTwo celebrated Americana singer/songwriters unite as kindred spirits in roots-oriented folk songs\, gorgeous melodies and vocal harmonies. \n \nKane and Gellert first met\, fittingly\, at San Francisco’s celebrated Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival\, which led to their co-writing songs for Kane’s solo album Unguarded Moments. They joined forces again for Gellert’s Workin’s Too Hard\, which they also co-produced. Then in 2018\, they released their first duo album\, The Ledges\, and followed up quickly with When the Sun Goes Down in 2019. In 2022\, this “unlikely musical couple” released The Flowers That Bloom in Spring\, which found them digging deeper into their exploration of minimalist writing and recording.Their fourth album just came out\, entitled Volume 4. Like all of their other duo albums\, they recorded it themselves\, live at home and even mixed it there. Kieran’s son Lucas played on a few tracks and Kieran did the painting on the cover. Rayna’s brother Jonah did the package design. \n \nKieran Kane’s seminal work in The O’Kanes and Kane Welch Kaplin\, as well as co-founding the independent label Dead Reckoning Records\, laid the foundation for the contemporary world of Americana music. A successful solo artist\, collaborator\, and songwriter (with songs recorded by Alan Jackson\, John Prine\, Emmylou Harris\, and many more)\, Kieran is a musician’s musician: his playing is always understated\, always groove-oriented\, and always serving the song.  \n \nRayna Gellert is a preternaturally gifted songwriter. She’s seen farther into the old songs than most. Growing up in a musical family\, she turned to Appalachian old-time music at a young age\, becoming a prodigious fiddler and leading a new revival of American stringband music through her work with the acclaimed roots band Uncle Earl. An in-demand collaborator\, she has toured and recorded with artists such as Scott Miller\, Abigail Washburn\, Toubab Krewe\, and Robyn Hitchcock. Fans of either artist will recognize the musical kindred-spiritedness in their restrained and roots-oriented approach to both songs and arrangements. \n \nFolk Alley describes them this way: “…together the two have found an interesting common ground that’s one part Woody Guthrie-esque ruminations on the modern world and one part transcendent stringband roots … New songs\, old songs\, fiddle tunes\, it’s all tossed together here in an overarching quest to find an authentic expression from two traditional masters brought together.” One fan proclaims: “Mind numbingly good. That harmony floored me from the start!” \n \nSAMPLE SONG \n \nStream this show live at Caffè Lena TV. Both authors are currently in residence at the New York State Summer Writers Institute at Skidmore College. \n \nVinson Cunningham is a staff writer and theatre critic for The New Yorker\, a former White House aide\, and a faculty member in the MFA Writing program at Sarah Lawrence College. His debut novel\, Great Expectations\, has been hailed by Colum McCann as “brilliantly written\, piercingly smart\, quietly subversive.” \n \nApril Bernard\, a Professor of English and Creative Writing at Skidmore College\, has just released her sixth poetry collection\, The World Behind the World (W.W. Norton). Her work spans poetry\, fiction\, and critical essays\, with frequent contributions to The New York Review of Books and other major journals. \n \nDon’t miss this opportunity to hear from two dynamic literary voices shaping the future of American letters. \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n \n \n \n \n	\n \n Streaming\n \n \n \n\n\n \n	\n \n Similar Events\n \n View All\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Mandolin Vitamins – Tunes\, Techniques and Ensemble Music\n\n Bluegrass Instructional\n \n \n \n \n class\n \n \n\n \n Apr 6 • 10 AM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Music Theory for Jammers with Bruce Thompson\n\n American Roots Bluegrass Workshop\n \n \n \n \n class\n \n \n\n \n Apr 8 • 7 PM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Guitar Workshops with Bruce Thompson\n\n Bluegrass Instructional Workshop\n \n \n \n \n class\n \n \n\n \n Apr 9 • 9 AM
