For the August edition of the Captain Fun Lunchtime Listening Hour\, our playlist curator will be none other than Caffè Lena’s beloved Reese Fulmer! We haven’t heard Reese’s theme\, but knowing Reese – it will be great! The D.J. spinning those records will be the Rochmon himself – Chuck “Rochmon” Vosganian.  All are welcome to gather at Lena’s from Noon to 1 PM on the last Friday of each month to enjoy musical memories and new discoveries. The playlist is selected by a different community member each month from the Captain Fun Listening Library of vinyl records in Lena’s lobby. Bring a brown bag lunch. Coffee and tea are provided. The Captain Fun Listening Library occupying the north wall in the Caffè Lena lobby is comprised of 1\,516 vinyl albums and several hundred CDs selected from Al “Captain Fun” McKenney’s expertly curated collection. This treasure trove of folk\, blues and jazz was left us in 2015 and we share it through our monthly listening hour\, as Al wished.  Enjoy the memories these records bring back\, and dig deep into American roots music. \n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n\n \n\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n \n Similar Events\n \n View All

SUMMARY:Peak Jazz Series: Dave Stryker Trio
DESCRIPTION: 		\n\n \n Share:\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	“Guitarist / composer Dave Stryker possesses golden tone\, urgent style\, and the kind of heated technique that can blow the roof off any gig. Stryker cut his teeth with organist Jack McDuff and tenor saxophonist Stanley Turrentine\, and that grits-n-gravy goodness seemed to mark his music: an urban tale spinner\, a sharp stylist able to improve any bandstand\, a storyteller in sound of the highest degree.”                                                                                          – Ken Micallef / Jazz Times Jan 2022 Whether performing with his own groups or sharing the stage with jazz legends like Stanley Turrentine and Jack McDuff\, Dave Stryker has carved out a place as one of today’s most distinctive and soulful jazz guitarists. With 35 albums as a leader\, over 75 as a sideman\, countless accolades—including being named Best Guitarist in many jazz publications’ Readers and Critics Polls—and a track record of #1 releases on the JazzWeek radio chart\, Stryker continues to expand what jazz guitar can be. The Dave Stryker Trio\, showcases the electrifying chemistry of longtime collaborators Jared Gold (organ) and Steve Johns (drums)—a rhythm section that’s as deep in groove as it is daring in improvisation. The trio toured as the opener for Steely Dan’s Earth After Hours tour\, and their albums are a thrilling testament to the power of a tight\, soulful jazz unit in full stride. Stryker’s style blends bluesy grit\, melodic elegance\, and an infectious sense of swing. A former protégé of Stanley Turrentine\, he’s brought his joyful\, groove-forward approach to audiences around the world—from Birdland and the Blue Note to Newport Jazz Festival and Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola. SAMPLE SONG This is a night of world-class musicianship you won’t want to miss. Come hear why DownBeat and JazzTimes repeatedly recognize Dave Stryker as one of the greats working today. Reserve your seat now for a night of jazz that’s cool\, compelling\, and utterly unforgettable. The Peak Jazz Series focuses on ensembles that lean toward cool jazz\, fusion\, and funk\, offering audiences a dynamic and diverse jazz experience.  The Peak Jazz Series is made possible by the generous support of Joseph & Luann Conlon in memory of Corrine Simonds. Stream this show live at CaffeLenaTV. Enjoy two weeks of access with your live stream ticket. Note: Caffe Lena does not permit ticket reselling above face value. SUMMARY:School of Music Slow Jam
DESCRIPTION: 		\n\n \n Share:\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	All are Welcome! WE LOVE TO MEET NEW PICKERS\, AND WE LOVE PUTTING ON A GOOD SHOW FOR LISTENERS!THERE ARE NO PRE-SHOW RESERVATIONS FOR THE JAMS! SUGGESTED DONATION AT THE DOOR. $5.00 per person Our jams are all about sharing songs\, making new friends\, and enjoying a relaxing and casual evening of irresistible string band music. ALL are welcome to join the circle for an afternoon or evening playing and listening to classic grass\, new grass and folk favorites. We sometimes refer to our genre as eclectic acoustic. Red Spruce and Adirondack Song Dogs will kick off each session with a few tunes then open the floor for musicians to lead their favorite bluegrass tunes and folk music\, backed up by the other pickers in the gathering. Simple tunes are always popular! So sharpen up your axe\, come prepared with your song\, and let us hear some good old fast\, high and lonesome\, some slow and low\, or a good old favorite. All are welcome! What is a Slow Jam? It is a group of string instrument players and singers who get together to have fun making music. The “slow” modifier indicates that it is targeted to the following musicians: people who have been playing solo and want to get used to playing in a group setting: people who have just learned how to play and want to play with others; people who have instruments that have been gathering dust for a “few” years; experienced players who are trying out playing instruments other than their primary instrument; people who are comfortable playing their instrument but want to become more comfortable singing/leading a song.. The tunes are played at 80 to 110 BPM and usually in basic keys such a G\, A\, D\, C major\, but it always sounds great to play in some minor keys such as “a”\, “e”\, and “g”. We will try to avoid “jam busters.” It is our hope that after this experience you will feel more comfortable playing at the many open jams and open mics that can be found in our area. \n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n\n \n\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n \n Similar Events\n \n View All

SUMMARY:Lena Go Round-Songwriters Showcase Hosted by Erin Harkes
DESCRIPTION: 		\n\n \n Share:\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	For 65 years\, Caffè Lena has been a place where great artists get their start—a stage where music is more than just sound; it’s stories\, community\, and discovery. The Lena Go Round continues that tradition\, offering a monthly showcase of rising songwriting talent\, curated and hosted by powerhouse musician\, comedian\, entrepreneur\, and all around powerhouse\, Erin Harkes. What makes Lena Go Round special? It is a curated lineup of the best up-and-coming songwriters—handpicked to deliver unforgettable performancesIt is a true “in the round” experience—where songwriters take turns sharing their music and stories\, creating an intimate and inspiring atmosphereIt is a direct link to Caffè Lena’s legacy—this stage launched careers\, and Lena Go Round continues to nurture the next generation of folk\, Americana\, and indie artistsThe lineup changes every month\, but one thing is constant: you will always hear something fresh\, moving\, and unforgettable. Whether you're a lifelong folk fan or just love discovering the next big thing\, Lena Go Round is the place to be. August's line-up is Belle-Skinner\, Ryan Liddick\, Ben Zoleski\, and Erin! Belle-Skinner is a dark nostalgic singer-songwriter based in New York. With a hauntingly beautiful\, lilting soprano and innate sense of melody she crafts tales of songbirds\, sirens and desert nomads – nuanced and layered stories which bridge the gap between past and present. Though her influences cover a broad range of genres – from French chansons and Russian folk to contemporary alt-pop and rock – her voice often draws comparisons to the likes of Joni Mitchell\, Kate Bush\, Jeff Buckley\, Mary Hopkin\, and early St. Vincent. Ryan Leddick is a queer folk/rock artist whose music is rooted in a childhood listening to classic rock and the folk music of his native Adirondacks—as well as anything else he could get to work on his parents’ sound system. The result is a distinctive fusion of life experience\, diverse influences and a strong artistic vision. When you listen to his music\, you can hear all of that echo in his unique sound. Leddick\, who has shared the stage with Damien Rice\, Of Good Nature\, and Brian Dunne to name a few\, is also a formally trained vocalist and has toured the Northeast for the better part of a decade\, in both group and solo acts. He’s now based in Troy\, New York\, and continues to travel regionally to perform for crowds large and small.   Ben Zoleski is a multi-instrumental songwriter\, producer and music director. He has been writing songs for 20 years. Once told that a song of his was "exceptional songwriting" by Livingston Taylor\, Ben tries to create songs that will resonate with listeners and that they can find a bit of themselves in. He has toured the country and Asia as part of the music direction team for Andrew Lloyd Webber's "School of Rock: the Musical". Currently\, Ben also plays guitar with Margo Macero\, keys in the band HARK\, and is part of the acoustic duo Gianna + Ben. Other artists and groups Ben has played for include David J\, Bea Miller\, Moriah Formica\, Sirsy and The Refrigerators. Ben resides in Schenectady\, NY with his wife Courtney\, daughter Eleanor and cat Atticus. His debut album of original material is currently in the works.  Erin Harkes Come be part of a Capital District must-see event\, where the best of the best take the stage before the world catches on. Symphonic compositions flow from her fingertips effortlessly\, with sound ranging from transcendental folk-pop to virtuosic instrumentals. Lenée has been described as “Dave Matthews meets Joni Mitchell and Michael Hedges\,” integrating melodic pop lyricism with catchy hooks and percussive\, harmonic textures. Her captivating performances have been seen on stages with Tommy Emmanuel\, Tim Reynolds (Dave Matthews Band)\, Andy McKee\, Amy Ray (Indigo Girls)\, Melissa Etheridge\, Antigone Rising\, Kaki King\, Jake Shimabukoro and Christopher Cross to name a few. Featured on the Grammy Museum’s virtual program streaming from Los Angeles\, a 2x Finalist in the USA Songwriting Competition\, plus a variety of articles in Guitar Player Magazine\, Acoustic Guitar Magazine\, and the recent notability of “Best Acoustic Guitarists in the World Right Now” (Guitar World Magazine)\, Christie continues to awe crowds with the unique essence of her music. “Watching Christie Lenée perform her solo acoustic act is like seeing a firecracker execute a high-wire circus routine while doing flips and juggling flaming bowling pins.” (Guitar Player Magazine). The first line of the intro title track from 2022’s Coming Alive (“I’ve got a feeling deep inside”)\, tells you everything you need to know: Lenée’s latest album is a chronicle of joy and hope\, of self-confidence and empowerment\, of renewal and light. There will be a new texture added to this performance. Christie is featuring multi-instrumentalist Katie Marie on bass. Katie is also a producer and songwriter who has worked and performed with many artists including Lena favorites Ruthie Foster and Carolyn Wonderland. Hailed as “one of modern blues’ greatest performers” (Vintage Guitar) and “a legend of American blues music” (Premier Guitar)\, Tinsley Ellis brings his Naked Truth Tour to Caffè Lena for a powerful evening of raw\, soul-stirring acoustic blues. For over four decades\, this Atlanta-born\, internationally acclaimed blues guitarist and singer-songwriter has electrified audiences with his searing electric performances. Now\, Ellis strips it all back—just his voice\, two guitars\, and a lifetime of stories told through song. His first-ever solo acoustic album\, Naked Truth\, showcases Tinsley’s fingerpicked finesse and passionate slide work on a beloved 1969 Martin D-35 and a 1937 National Steel. The album pays tribute to blues legends like Son House\, Skip James\, and Muddy Waters\, while delivering brand new originals filled with wit\, grit\, and vulnerability. Expect the full Ellis experience—only quieter\, closer\, and more personal than ever before. This is blues with nothing to hide\, and everything to say.

Drawn to the raw magic that birthed records by the Allman Brothers and other Southern greats\, he chased that sound through Georgia clubs\, steeped himself in blues legends like Muddy Waters and Freddie King\, and honed his own fearless\, deeply personal voice. Now\, with his acclaimed third album Capricorn\, recorded at the fabled Macon studio\, Eddie 9V brings his electrifying\, unfiltered take on Southern roots and soul to Caffè Lena. Backed by an all-star crew of Southern players\, the album channels the spirit of Muscle Shoals\, gritty blues\, swampy funk\, and gospel-drenched soul—all while staying true to Eddie’s warts-and-all approach. Celebrated for records like Left My Soul in Memphis and Little Black Flies\, Eddie 9V (aka Brooks Mason) has earned acclaim for crafting music that feels as spontaneous and real as a late-night jam session. Songs like "Beg\, Steal and Borrow" and "Yella Alligator" pulse with energy and attitude\, while deeper cuts reveal raw reflections on life\, love\, and struggle—often recorded in single takes\, complete with laughter and squeaky drum pedals. Live\, Eddie 9V promises a night as honest and vibrant as his recordings. Expect fiery guitar\, a tight band steeped in Southern soul\, and a frontman whose charisma and authenticity light up every room. SAMPLE SONG Join us for a night that bridges past and present\, honoring the golden age of Southern music while forging something unmistakably his own. The Bright Series is made possible by a generous gift from Kevin & Claudia Bright.

The Rolling Pebbles are the senior members of our School of Music—a spirited group of dedicated young musicians ages 10 to 16 who have been rehearsing and performing together since 2020. Under the expert guidance of instructors (who are also accomplished musicians)\, Oona Grady\, James Gascoyne\, and Matt Griffin\, these talented students have grown into a polished band with a deep love for roots\, folk\, and acoustic traditions. They've performed at farmers markets\, community festivals\, and even opened for folk legends Sally Rogers and Claudia Schmidt on the Caffè Lena stage. In 2024\, several of The Rolling Pebbles members ventured into new musical territory and formed The Jazz Pebbles\, a fresh ensemble exploring improvisation and jazz standards with creativity and groove. Though still new to the stage\, The Jazz Pebbles are already turning heads with their energy and musical curiosity. These ensembles embody the heart of The Caffè Lena School of Music: creativity\, collaboration and community. Stream this show live at Caffè Lena TV. Annual shows here helped them gain national attention\, with NPR describing their indie rock as “exquisitely arranged\, literary minded\, baroque folk-pop.” Their elegant compositions and unified voices have earned praise from Rolling Stone and The New Yorker\, fostering a worldwide following. Their fourth LP\, Everything Is Alive\, brings fresh new sounds. Exploring themes of personal and universal change\, the album delves into big life decisions\, emphasizing loss and redemption. Produced and recorded by the band and mixed by Tucker Martine (My Morning Jacket\, Sufjan Stevens\, Iron and Wine)\, it showcases Darlingside’s evolution while retaining signature harmonies and melodic sophistication. SAMPLE SONG Join us at Caffè Lena for a luminous evening of music as Darlingside shares their most personal work yet—songs that meet life’s tender complexities head-on\, and invite us all to find what’s still alive and beautiful.
