SUMMARY:Bluegrass Duet Class with Alan Epstein and Bruce Thompson
DESCRIPTION:Gospel \n\n \n Share:\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	The purpose of this class is to allow acoustic musicians to work on Bluegrass Duet repertoire with a musical partner. Early groups such as the Blue Sky Boys\, the Monroe Brothers\, the Louvin Brothers\, and the Delmore Brothers helped develop the roots of the sound that we know as bluegrass. Each week we will listen to recorded examples of these and other duet and bluegrass artists and will work on singing and playing some of their best known songs.  This class is NOT intended for beginning musicians looking to learn the basics of their instruments. Rather\, it is aimed at those who can play their acoustic instrument\, (guitar\, banjo\, bass\, fiddle\, mandolin\, dobro) and are interested in exploring the music's roots to help them fine tune their sound with a duet partner. \n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n Doors Open\n Doors Open: 4:00 pm	\n	\n	\n\n \n\n	\n \n	\n \n Price\n \n Member\n $23.86\n \n \n \n \n \n General\n $27.11\n \n \n \n \n \n Child or Student\n $13.56\n \n \n \n				 \n inclusive of fees\n \n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n \n Get Tickets \n \n Streaming\n \n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n \n Similar Events\n \n View All

WE LOVE TO MEET NEW PICKERS\, AND WE LOVE PUTTING ON A GOOD SHOW FOR LISTENERS!THERE ARE NO PRE-SHOW RESERVATIONS FOR THE JAMS! SUGGESTED DONATION AT THE DOOR. $5.00 per person Our jams are all about sharing songs\, making new friends\, and enjoying a relaxing and casual evening of irresistible string band music. ALL are welcome to join the circle for an afternoon or evening playing and listening to classic grass\, new grass and folk favorites. We sometimes refer to our genre as eclectic acoustic. Red Spruce and Adirondack Song Dogs will kick off each session with a few tunes then open the floor for musicians to lead their favorite bluegrass tunes and folk music\, backed up by the other pickers in the gathering. Simple tunes are always popular! So sharpen up your axe\, come prepared with your song\, and let us hear some good old fast\, high and lonesome\, some slow and low\, or a good old favorite. All are welcome! What is a Slow Jam? It is a group of string instrument players and singers who get together to have fun making music. The “slow” modifier indicates that it is targeted to the following musicians: people who have been playing solo and want to get used to playing in a group setting: people who have just learned how to play and want to play with others; people who have instruments that have been gathering dust for a “few” years; experienced players who are trying out playing instruments other than their primary instrument; people who are comfortable playing their instrument but want to become more comfortable singing/leading a song.. The tunes are played at 80 to 110 BPM and usually in basic keys such a G\, A\, D\, C major\, but it always sounds great to play in some minor keys such as “a”\, “e”\, and “g”. We will try to avoid “jam busters.” It is our hope that after this experience you will feel more comfortable playing at the many open jams and open mics that can be found in our area. \n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n Doors Open\n Doors Open: 4:00 pm	\n	\n	\n\n \n\n	\n \n	\n \n Price\n \n Member\n $23.86\n \n \n \n \n \n General\n $27.11\n \n \n \n \n \n Child or Student\n $13.56\n \n \n \n				 \n inclusive of fees\n \n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n \n Get Tickets \n \n Streaming\n \n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n \n Similar Events\n \n View All

What began in 1989 with a year of busking on the streets of Dublin and hitchhiking to whatever gig he could find has grown into a remarkable career spanning 20 albums\, thousands of performances\, and collaborations with some of folk’s most respected voices. From his early days in Midwest bars and Boston coffeehouses to national stages opening for Ani DiFranco\, Emmylou Harris\, Greg Brown\, and Chuck Prophet\, Mulvey has always followed his instinct for the eclectic and the essential. Along the way\, he has given a TEDx talk\, published an illustrated book\, and become a beloved fixture at festivals\, on NPR\, and at the National Youth Science Camp\, where he’s shared music with generations of young minds. Mulvey’s annual autumn bicycle tour epitomizes his creative spirit—merging music\, community\, and sustainability—while his long-running Lamplighter Sessions bring together artists in Boston and Wisconsin for nights of collaboration and discovery. With each new project\, he deepens his reputation as a songwriter of rare insight and a performer who connects instantly with audiences. SAMPLE SONG At Caffè Lena\, expect an evening of songs and stories that travel effortlessly from wry and whimsical to deeply moving—always carried by Mulvey’s warmth\, wit\, and remarkable craft. With rafter-shaking harmonies\, grooves that nod to New Orleans\, and an inventive mix of fiddle\, guitars\, and “junk percussion\,” their sound is both soulful and celebratory—what Acoustic Guitar calls “tight\, with stylish\, unexpected choices.” Based in New England\, this quartet has graced stages from the Newport Folk Festival to the California World Music Festival and beyond. At the helm\, Rani Arbo brings her unforgettable voice—light and sultry with a touch of smoke—while anchoring the band with fiddle and guitar. Alongside her are Andrew Kinsey (bass\, banjo\, ukulele)\, Anand Nayak (electric and acoustic guitars)\, and Scott Kessel\, whose homemade percussion kit of boxes\, cans\, and rattles creates an irresistible rhythmic drive. Together\, their harmonies can hush a room or bring it to its feet. In the lineage of great American string bands\, Rani Arbo & daisy mayhem stand out for their fearless eclecticism. From bluegrass barnstormers to bluesy folk-rock\, gospel to sultry swing\, originals sit seamlessly beside reimagined songs by Hank Williams\, Leonard Cohen\, Bruce Springsteen\, and the Georgia Sea Islands tradition.  As The Hartford Courant wrote: “They dig deep into their collective souls\, finding joy in the moment\, peace in the harmonies\, and rapture in the rhythmic drive.” SAMPLE SONG Expect an evening of music that will leave you humming\, hopeful\, and reminded of the joy found in community and song.

SUMMARY:Lena Go Round-Songwriters Showcase Hosted by Erin Harkes
DESCRIPTION:Gospel \n\n \n Share:\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	For 65 years\, Caffè Lena has been a place where great artists get their start—a stage where music is more than just sound; it’s stories\, community\, and discovery. The Lena Go Round continues that tradition\, offering a monthly showcase of rising songwriting talent\, curated and hosted by powerhouse musician\, comedian\, entrepreneur\, and all around powerhouse\, Erin Harkes. What makes Lena Go Round special? It is a curated lineup of the best up-and-coming songwriters—handpicked to deliver unforgettable performancesIt is a true “in the round” experience—where songwriters take turns sharing their music and stories\, creating an intimate and inspiring atmosphereIt is a direct link to Caffè Lena’s legacy—this stage launched careers\, and Lena Go Round continues to nurture the next generation of folk\, Americana\, and indie artistsThe lineup changes every month\, but one thing is constant: you will always hear something fresh\, moving\, and unforgettable. Whether you're a lifelong folk fan or just love discovering the next big thing\, Lena Go Round is the place to be. Come be part of a Capital District must-see event\, where the best of the best take the stage before the world catches on. The artists for the 11/26 show are Jacob Shipley\, Rob Fleming\, Maddie Gallagher and of course\, Erin! SAMPLE SONG  ARTIST BIOS: Jacob Shipley Bio: Shit happens. Jacob Shipley writes not-so-sad-anymore acoustic folk-rock for those who forgave\, but find some masochistic joy in remembering. With a voice that is raw\, powerful\, and emotive\, he shares stories from his own emotionally complicated life with humor and a knowing smile that only hindsight can bring. Jacob gives his live audiences the space to commiserate and laugh through the pain\, sorrow\, and embarrassments they’ve experienced. He performs as a solo musician or with a backing band. Recorded and produced in their Brooklyn apartment\, Jacob’s third EP Getting Older brings them back to their acoustic roots. It opens with an ironic take on aging from a 25 year old who just found their first gray hair\, inappropriately titled ‘Older.’ From there\, the EP lands on ‘Kitchen Floor’ — a deeply personal love song for those struggling with anxious attachment styles. Next falls ‘Death of Me\,’ a rousing invitation to revel in autumn’s decay. With a sobering look at love lost\, ‘Kitchen Floor II’ brings us back to the depths of despair\, while ‘The Painter’ is an ode to artist Fred Terna\, a sage old friend who passed in 2022. Getting Older ends with ‘If a Robot Takes My Job\,’ a sardonic and silly song about AI\, not written with the help of ChatGPT.  Jacob’s music can be caught on radio throughout the Northeast US and they have been seen and heard at historic venues such as Caffe Lena\, The Troy Savings Bank Music Hall\, and the late Rockwood Music Hall. Jacob starred as John Newton in the first national tour of “Amazing Grace: the Musical” and was featured in the first actor-musician production of “Godspell." Rob Fleming Bio: For the Upstate NY-based singer & songwriter Rob Fleming\, RHOSEWAY is the given name of a creative solo project\, a truth-telling reflection\, and an artistic reaction to the choice to play music at all from years as a writer and performer in other projects. It's an act of free expression through melody\, progression\, sounds\, and words that are based on feel. The music comes from a renewed perspective to create something from nothing. The music finds its place as effectually layered dynamic and melodic droning\, in the form of indie-alternative rock. Riding on three separate two track singles\, the latest being the harmonious alt-folk leanings of 2024's SUMMER RUN\, and up-tempo guitar flourishing of 2023's CLOAK & DAGGER. Full length record "RHOSEWAY" released July ‘24 brings all works remixed and remastered as a full album release\, with the inclusion of two additional tracks SUMMER RUN\, and ROOTS & ROPE. Early 2025's single release of DEAD TO ME is an alt-folk storyteller in a synth sonic landscape. Maddie Gallagher Bio: Maddie Gallagher is a pop singer-songwriter\, instrumentalist\, and producer who blends acoustic folk elements and found natural sounds with pop production and synthesized sounds. She is a junior at SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Music studying Studio Composition. In this performance\, she will be playing original material that will be released on her upcoming record to be released in 2026! Stream this show live at Caffè Lena TV. Live stream available for $5 – 100% of live stream tickets on CaffeLenaTV benefit the artists. SUMMARY:Overit Home Grown Sessions: The Millstone Rounders

James Gascoyne and Oona Grady have been collaborating with like minded friends playing folk styles and acoustic genres since the early days of their duo\, Drank The Gold. Growing out of their desire to expand their sound beyond Irish and old time roots music\, they began playing classic country\, bluegrass\, and blues with fellow instructor at the Caffe Lena School of Music\, Matt Griffin (of the well known groups Blue Ranger and Let’s Be Leonard). This performance at Caffe Lena will feature Scott Hopkins (The McKrells\, The Upstate Bluegrass Band\, and renowned Wernick Method instructor) on banjo and Dylan Perrillo (Dylan Perrillo Orchestra and The Hot Club of Saratoga) on bass.   The sound that The Millstone Rounders seek to create harkens back to a not-so-distant musical past where musicians played acoustically\, standing close to one another balancing their voices and instruments using their ears and technique. Until the widespread use of amplification\, this would have been the norm everywhere. Furthermore\, prior to the advent of the recording industry the idea of musical genres was much less of a thing than it is today. When groups of performers from different regions got together it was truly an event. Because music wasn’t widely disseminated through recordings or the internet\, folks from divergent backgrounds would bring together songs and tunes from a wide variety of traditions. Perhaps a gospel hymn might be followed by an old English ballad\, a jug band breakdown\, an Irish pub song\, some country blues\, and then a rollicking Scottish fiddle tune. The Millstone Rounders were born in 2017 at a recording session with Chris Carey (Millstone Studios)\, when gathered around a single microphone\, James exclaimed\, “Hey\, we’re The Millstone Rounders!” SAMPLE SONG Everything good comes back ‘round again and again! SUMMARY:School of Music Slow Jam
DESCRIPTION:Gospel \n\n \n Share:\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	All are Welcome!
