SUMMARY:School of Music Slow Jam
DESCRIPTION:Folk \n\n \n Share:\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	All are Welcome!WE LOVE TO MEET NEW PICKERS\,AND WE LOVE PUTTING ON A GOOD SHOW FOR LISTENERS!This weekly program is made possible by the generous support of PHLY Foundation! THERE ARE NO PRE-SHOW RESERVATIONS FOR THE JAMS! SUGGESTED DONATION AT THE DOOR. $5.00 per person Our jams are all about sharing songs\, making new friends\, and enjoying a relaxing and casual evening of irresistible string band music. ALL are welcome to join the circle for an afternoon or evening playing and listening to classic grass\, new grass and folk favorites. We sometimes refer to our genre as eclectic acoustic. Red Spruce and Adirondack Song Dogs will kick off each session with a few tunes then open the floor for musicians to lead their favorite bluegrass tunes and folk music\, backed up by the other pickers in the gathering. Simple tunes are always popular! So sharpen up your axe\, come prepared with your song\, and let us hear some good old fast\, high and lonesome\, some slow and low\, or a good old favorite. All are welcome! What is a Slow Jam? It is a group of string instrument players and singers who get together to have fun making music. The “slow” modifier indicates that it is targeted to the following musicians: people who have been playing solo and want to get used to playing in a group setting: people who have just learned how to play and want to play with others; people who have instruments that have been gathering dust for a “few” years; experienced players who are trying out playing instruments other than their primary instrument; people who are comfortable playing their instrument but want to become more comfortable singing/leading a song.. The tunes are played at 80 to 110 BPM and usually in basic keys such a G\, A\, D\, C major\, but it always sounds great to play in some minor keys such as “a”\, “e”\, and “g”. We will try to avoid “jam busters.” It is our hope that after this experience you will feel more comfortable playing at the many open jams and open mics that can be found in our area. \n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n Doors Open\n Doors Open: 7:30 pm	\n	\n	\n\n \n\n	\n \n	\n \n Price\n \n Member\n $23.86\n \n \n \n \n \n General\n $27.11\n \n \n \n \n \n Child or Student\n $11.93\n \n \n \n				 \n inclusive of fees\n \n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n \n Get Tickets \n \n Streaming\n \n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n \n Similar Events\n \n View All\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Bright Series: Olive Klug\n\n American Roots Folk Singer Songwriter\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Apr 4 • 8 PM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Folk Heritage Series: Jay Ungar & Molly Mason\n\n American Roots Folk Singer Songwriter\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Apr 11 • 8 PM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Matt Griffin Album Release with opener Jimi Woodul\n\n American Roots Folk Singer Songwriter\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Apr 12 • 7 PM

SUMMARY:Julia Alsarraf Album Release
DESCRIPTION:American Roots Folk Singer Songwriter \n\n \n Share:\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	Caffè Lena is so happy to host the album release show for In Fidelity\, the bold and deeply personal new record from Troy-based singer\, songwriter\, and multi-instrumentalist Julia Alsarraf. Originally from Houston and now rooted in Troy after graduating from RPI\, Julia has become one of the Capital Region’s most compelling emerging voices. Her music blends contemporary folk\, indie rock\, and raw emotional power—held together by a voice that carries both vulnerability and strength. Written in an intense creative burst following the passing of her father\, In Fidelity explores what it means to see clearly and act faithfully—not only in relationships with others\, but also in the often-overlooked relationship with oneself. The album’s title plays on “infidelity\,” opening the door to questions of identity\, authenticity\, grief\, courage\, and the difficult truths that surface when old patterns fall away. These songs come from a place of reckoning—of allowing long-buried questions to rise\, of honoring complexity\, and of pursuing honesty even when it feels unwelcome. Musically\, the project leans into what Julia affectionately calls “despair punk”: guitar-driven\, emotionally charged songs full of grit\, distortion\, introspection\, and catharsis. It’s a sound that’s unafraid to sit with discomfort while still chasing clarity\, connection\, and transformation. SAMPLE SONG Join us for an unforgettable night of new music\, emotional honesty\, and the debut of In Fidelity at Caffè Lena. Stream this show live at Caffè Lena TV. Live stream available for $5 – 100% of live stream tickets on CaffeLenaTV benefit the artists. SUMMARY:Bluegrass Duet Class with Alan Epstein
DESCRIPTION:American Roots Folk Singer Songwriter \n\n \n Share:\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	The purpose of this class is to allow acoustic musicians to work on Bluegrass Duet repertoire with a musical partner. Early groups such as the Blue Sky Boys\, the Monroe Brothers\, the Louvin Brothers\, and the Delmore Brothers helped develop the roots of the sound that we know as bluegrass. Each week we will listen to recorded examples of these and other duet and bluegrass artists and will work on singing and playing some of their best known songs.  This class is NOT intended for beginning musicians looking to learn the basics of their instruments. Rather\, it is aimed at those who can play their acoustic instrument\, (guitar\, banjo\, bass\, fiddle\, mandolin\, dobro) and are interested in exploring the music's roots to help them fine tune their sound with a duet partner. \n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n Doors Open\n Doors Open: 7:30 pm	\n	\n	\n\n \n\n	\n \n	\n \n Price\n \n Member\n $27.11\n \n \n \n \n \n General\n $30.37\n \n \n \n \n \n Child or Student\n $15.18\n \n \n \n				 \n inclusive of fees\n \n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n \n Get Tickets \n \n Streaming\n \n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n \n Similar Events\n \n View All\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Little Folks: City Birds\n\n American Roots Family\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Apr 4 • 3 PM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Bright Series: Olive Klug\n\n American Roots Folk Singer Songwriter\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Apr 4 • 8 PM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Matt Griffin Album Release with opener Jimi Woodul\n\n American Roots Folk Singer Songwriter\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Apr 12 • 7 PM

SUMMARY:So You Want to Play Mandolin with Alan Epstein
DESCRIPTION:American Roots Folk Singer Songwriter \n\n \n Share:\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	This class is designed for the beginner; those folks who are interested in playing the mandolin but don't know where to start. We will cover the basics of holding\, tuning and playing your first notes and chords on the mandolin\, left and right hand technique and also learn to play a few songs. My goal is to get you started and provide you with the skills needed to play this great little instrument going forward. We will take things slowly\, with a focus on producing clear tone\, developing muscle memory in your fingers and most importantly having fun. Each week we will review all the things we’ve covered in previous classes. We will learn mostly by ear\, but a few handouts will be provided. The only prerequisite is that you have a mandolin\, a few picks\, an extra set of mandolin strings\, an electronic tuner and\, most importantly\, a desire to play the mandolin. Class size is limited to 10 so reserve your spot now! Alan Epstein has been playing mandolin for the past 54 years and has been teaching others to play mandolin for 30 years. Originally from Pittsburgh\, Pa and currently living in Glens falls\, NY. Alan has preformed in bluegrass bands in Colorado\, North Carolina\, Pennsylvania\, Michigan and New York. A former contributing writer for the now defunct Mandolin Magazine\, in 2002 Alan was the founder of the modern day Pittsburgh Mandolin Orchestra and has been a Wernick Method Bluegrass Jam instructor since 2012. During all this time he has made it a priority to take mandolin lessons and workshops from the top players in the world and share what he has learned when he teach others to play. Alan teaches by ear and specializes in Bluegrass and Old Time music. In Alan’s own words\, “IMHO the world needs more mandolin players and I'm here to help make that happen”. \n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n Doors Open\n Doors Open: 6:30 pm	\n	\n	\n\n \n\n	\n \n	\n \n Price\n \n Member\n $21.69\n \n \n \n \n \n General\n $23.86\n \n \n \n \n \n Child or Student\n $11.93\n \n \n \n				 \n inclusive of fees\n \n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n \n Get Tickets \n \n Streaming\n \n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n \n Similar Events\n \n View All\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Little Folks: City Birds\n\n American Roots Family\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Apr 4 • 3 PM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Bright Series: Olive Klug\n\n American Roots Folk Singer Songwriter\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Apr 4 • 8 PM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Folk Heritage Series: Jay Ungar & Molly Mason\n\n American Roots Folk Singer Songwriter\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Apr 11 • 8 PM

His voice—equal parts velvet and grit—adds vulnerability and clarity to lyrics that often articulate what the rest of us feel but struggle to express. Over the past two decades\, Ari Hest has built a remarkable\, singular career. Beginning as an independent artist in 2001\, he toured the college circuit relentlessly\, sharing stages with Martin Sexton\, Suzanne Vega\, Ani DiFranco\, Judy Collins\, and The Indigo Girls\, building a loyal and passionate following one room at a time.  The Boston Globe has praised him as “a prolific songwriter and a captivating live performer\,” while Top40-charts dotcom places his sound “somewhere on the path where Elliott Smith meets Peter Gabriel.” Hest’s ambitious creative spirit is legendary. In 2008\, he undertook his groundbreaking “52” project\, writing and releasing a brand-new song every Monday for an entire year—an experiment in vulnerability\, discipline\, and connection. The fan-selected highlights were reimagined on his celebrated album Twelve Mondays. And in 2017\, he earned a Grammy nomination for Silver Skies Blue\, his stunning duets album with the iconic Judy Collins. His songs have reached far beyond the stage\, appearing in The Lincoln Lawyer\, The Path\, Private Practice\, Army Wives\, One Tree Hill\, and more. To mark 20 years of writing and touring\, Hest released I Remember When\, a retrospective album celebrating his prolific output and evolution as an artist. Never one to sit still creatively\, his current endeavor—The Treehouse Project—has him writing\, recording\, and releasing a new song every two weeks through Patreon. Fans vote on their favorites\, and at the end of the year he remixes the top selections into a new album. Now in its fourth year and nearing 100 new original songs\, the project is a testament to his unstoppable artistry and his deep connection to listeners. “I don’t think what I experience is any different than what others do\,” Hest says. “But I put those feelings into words\, and people connect with them. It’s good for my soul—and I love knowing the music can have a real impact.” SAMPLE SONG Beautifully crafted songs. A voice full of soul. A performer who always delivers. This is Ari Hest—live\, up close\, and unforgettable. Stream this show live at Caffè Lena TV. Live stream available for $5 – 100% of live stream tickets on CaffeLenaTV benefit the artists. \n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n Doors Open\n Doors Open: 6:30 pm	\n	\n	\n\n \n\n	\n \n	\n \n Price\n \n Member\n $21.69\n \n \n \n \n \n General\n $23.86\n \n \n \n \n \n Child or Student\n $11.93\n \n \n \n				 \n inclusive of fees\n \n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n \n Get Tickets \n \n Streaming\n \n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n \n Similar Events\n \n View All\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Little Folks: City Birds\n\n American Roots Family\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Apr 4 • 3 PM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Bright Series: Olive Klug\n\n American Roots Folk Singer Songwriter\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Apr 4 • 8 PM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Folk Heritage Series: Jay Ungar & Molly Mason\n\n American Roots Folk Singer Songwriter\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Apr 11 • 8 PM

SUMMARY:Rochmon Record Club Listening Party : Boston

On Tuesday\, January 20th\, Rochmon Record Club will converge at Caffe’ Lena 47 Phila Street\, Saratoga Springs\, to listen to\, and learn about Boston’s first studio album\, “Boston”. Doors open at 6:30\, and the show begins at 7 pm with a live audio & video presentation by Chuck Vosganian aka “Rochmon”.  Ahead of its time does not do this album justice. Polaroid development engineer Tom Scholz was a part-time musician playing in bar bands in the Boston area and working on creating the “perfect Song” in his homemade basement studio. Did someone say the perfect song? In 1976 Boston released its first eponymous album\, with arguably 8 perfect songs including “More Than a Feeling”\, “Peace of Mind”\, “Long Time”\, “Rock & Roll Band”\, “Smokin'” and 3 more the “Boston” album will shake the walls and rattle the bones! A great record for the dark days of winter! As always Rochmon will have some surprises in store! For Rochmaniacs at a distance\, Rochmon Record Club will also be streaming live on Caffe’ Lena TV.   A Rochmon Record Club Listening Party is meant to inform and deepen our understanding of the history of the individual performers\, songs\, and stories that went into the making of this classic album. By listening together\, we hear the music again for the first time.  Stream this show live at Caffè Lena TV. Note: Caffe Lena does not permit ticket reselling above face value. Tickets purchased for the purpose of resale may be canceled without notice\, and refunds for such purchases will not be granted. \n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n Doors Open\n Doors Open: 6:30 pm	\n	\n	\n\n \n\n	\n \n	\n \n Price\n \n Member\n $21.69\n \n \n \n \n \n General\n $23.86\n \n \n \n \n \n Child or Student\n $11.93\n \n \n \n				 \n inclusive of fees\n \n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n \n Get Tickets \n \n Streaming\n \n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n \n Similar Events\n \n View All\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Little Folks: City Birds\n\n American Roots Family\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Apr 4 • 3 PM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Bright Series: Olive Klug\n\n American Roots Folk Singer Songwriter\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Apr 4 • 8 PM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Folk Heritage Series: Jay Ungar & Molly Mason\n\n American Roots Folk Singer Songwriter\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Apr 11 • 8 PM

\n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n Doors Open\n Doors Open: 6:30 pm	\n	\n	\n\n \n\n	\n \n	\n \n Price\n \n Member\n $21.69\n \n \n \n \n \n General\n $23.86\n \n \n \n \n \n Child or Student\n $11.93\n \n \n \n				 \n inclusive of fees\n \n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n \n Get Tickets \n \n Streaming\n \n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n \n Similar Events\n \n View All\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Little Folks: City Birds\n\n American Roots Family\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Apr 4 • 3 PM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Bright Series: Olive Klug\n\n American Roots Folk Singer Songwriter\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Apr 4 • 8 PM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Folk Heritage Series: Jay Ungar & Molly Mason\n\n American Roots Folk Singer Songwriter\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Apr 11 • 8 PM

\n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n Doors Open\n Doors Open: 7:30 pm	\n	\n	\n\n \n\n	\n \n	\n \n Price\n \n Member\n $27.11\n \n \n \n \n \n General\n $30.37\n \n \n \n \n \n Child or Student\n $15.18\n \n \n \n				 \n inclusive of fees\n \n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n \n Get Tickets \n \n Streaming\n \n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n \n Similar Events\n \n View All\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Little Folks: City Birds\n\n American Roots Family\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Apr 4 • 3 PM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Bright Series: Olive Klug\n\n American Roots Folk Singer Songwriter\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Apr 4 • 8 PM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Matt Griffin Album Release with opener Jimi Woodul\n\n American Roots Folk Singer Songwriter\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Apr 12 • 7 PM

The Show is Free and open to the public. We ask you to please register for us to know how many people to expect. We will have your name on our guest list. Hubby Jenkins is a Grammy-nominated artist\, multi-instrumentalist\, and former member of the legendary Carolina Chocolate Drops\, celebrated for his riveting performances that honor and illuminate the African American roots of old-time American music. Born and raised in Brooklyn\, Jenkins grew up playing saxophone and bass before discovering the powerful\, haunting sounds of Skip James and Bukka White. That discovery sparked a profound journey into the essential—but too often overlooked—role of Black musicians in shaping the foundations of American folk\, blues\, and country music. What began as NYC busking led to performances in coffeehouses and bars\, eventually landing him a spot in the Carolina Chocolate Drops (2010–2016). During his time with the group\, Jenkins contributed guitar\, banjo\, bones\, and vocals to their groundbreaking work. Their album Leaving Eden earned a Grammy nomination for Best Folk Album\, and the group played a central role in the modern revival of Black string band music. Jenkins later performed with the Rhiannon Giddens Band\, deepening his impact on the genre’s resurgence. In 2015\, Jenkins was nominated for Instrumentalist of the Year at the Americana Awards\, solidifying his reputation as one of the most compelling and knowledgeable interpreters of traditional Black American music working today. With a deep love for history and an electrifying stage presence\, Hubby Jenkins brings audiences on a journey through the roots of the blues\, old-time\, folk\, and early Americana—music that is not just performed\, but lived. Don’t miss this unforgettable evening with Hubby Jenkins\, a master musician keeping the spirit and story of America’s earliest roots music vividly alive. With seductive harmonies\, heavy grooves\, and a mesmerizing stage presence\, FRÄNDER stands among the Nordic countries’ top roots music bands. Influenced by first-generation Nordic folk rock pioneers like Hedningarna\, Garmarna\, and Hoven Droven—as well as by Led Zeppelin\, Fairport Convention\, Jethro Tull\, and Steeleye Span—FRÄNDER is rooted in heritage but driven by a bold\, modern creative spirit. “This is not about tradition\, this is about us\, about today\,”  —Gabbi Dluzewski Even while performing exclusively on acoustic instruments\, the band plays with the raw power and energy of a rock group. Their music is deeply tied to where they come from: the landscapes\, legends\, folklore\, and ancient stories of Sweden and Estonia. FRÄNDER’s concerts often weave tales of their homeland—the forests and lakes near the old Viking stronghold of Håga\, the cultural history they grew up in\, and the myths that continue to breathe life into their sound. The band is a family affair: Gabbi Dluzewski – Swedish låtmandola Daniel Dluzewski – bass Natasja Dluzewska – fiddle Säde Tatar – flutes (from Estonia\, and Gabbi’s wife) Together\, they infuse the music of their ancestors with modern intensity\, crafting a soundscape where Viking-age echoes meet contemporary folk-rock fire. “Fränder delivers a fantastic\, stellar set of masterful songs with engaging vocals\, scorching fiddles\, evocative flutes\, and a powerful rhythm section.” —World Music Central Expect an evening of soaring melodies\, rich cultural storytelling\, and boundary-pushing acoustic energy. This is world music at its most alive\, dynamic\, and deeply rooted. Join us for an unforgettable night with FRÄNDER — where tradition\, myth\, and modernity collide. \n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n Doors Open\n Doors Open: 7:30 pm	\n	\n	\n\n \n\n	\n \n	\n \n Price\n \n Member\n $27.11\n \n \n \n \n \n General\n $30.37\n \n \n \n \n \n Child or Student\n $15.18\n \n \n \n				 \n inclusive of fees\n \n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n \n Get Tickets \n \n Streaming\n \n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n \n Similar Events\n \n View All\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Little Folks: City Birds\n\n American Roots Family\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Apr 4 • 3 PM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Bright Series: Olive Klug\n\n American Roots Folk Singer Songwriter\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Apr 4 • 8 PM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Matt Griffin Album Release with opener Jimi Woodul\n\n American Roots Folk Singer Songwriter\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Apr 12 • 7 PM
