Along the way\, he’s developed a sound of his own—blues-based rock driven by sharp horn lines\, strong songwriting\, and a band that knows how to groove. Collins first came to wider attention touring with Gregg Allman\, and later became part of the musical circle around Levon Helm in Woodstock\, New York. He performed regularly at Helm’s legendary Midnight Ramble Sessions and went on to join Helm’s touring band as a horn arranger and soloist\, playing on recordings that earned Grammy Awards in the Americana category. His musicianship has also brought him to stages with Donald Fagen of Steely Dan as part of The Dukes of September\, alongside legendary performers Michael McDonald and Boz Scaggs. These days Collins leads his own band\, The Northern Resistance\, made up of some of the Hudson Valley’s finest young rock and roots musicians. Together they perform Collins’ original songs—music shaped by blues\, rock\, soul\, and the deep traditions of American songwriting. Collins also continues to perform with the Midnight Ramble Band\, Amy Helm\, and Little Feat\, whose tours he has joined in recent years alongside the Midnight Ramble Horns. Many of her five CDs have won national storytelling awards: Learning About Muslims\, Fighting For Our Rights – American Women Mid-20th Century\, Young People Who Made a Difference\, People Who Made a Difference: Volume 1\, and Lighting the Way Home: Stories of Lighthouses and Their Keepers. \n \nKate's diverse background\, B.A. in Psychology and French\, M.S. in Computer Science\, over 30 years experience in the computer industry (including two patents: System and Method for Prompt-Radiology Image Screening Service Via Satellite\, and Method for Automated Web Site Maintenance Via Searching) plus the many storytelling workshops and conferences she has attended\, give an interdisciplinary flavor to many of her stories. \n \nKate has presented workshops at Sharing the Fire (Northeast Storytelling's annual conference)\, the Northlands Storytelling Conference (Wisconsin)\, the Timpanogos Storytelling Conference (Utah)\, the Putnam Storytelling Festival (New York)\, and at the National Storytelling Conference. She has also published an article in the book Literacy Development in the Storytelling Classroom (winner of a 2010 Storytelling World Award in the category: Special Storytelling Resources)\, two articles about storytelling in The Museletter\, publication of the League for the Advancement of New England Storytelling\, and three articles in The Storytelling Magazine\, publication of the National Storytelling Network.  \n \nAs a member of the Advocacy Committee of the National Storytelling Network\, Kate created this website: Storytelling — It's News! and it contains summaries of over 400 articles published since June 2003 which describe various uses of storytelling\, from classrooms to boardrooms to operating rooms. \n \nKate is active in the US storytelling community. She is a member of the National Storytelling Network\, Northeast Storytelling and Story Circle of the Capital District\, a local group of storytellers. She was also a member of the organizing committee for the Riverway Storytelling Festival\, which ran for 10 years in the Capital Region of New York State. \n \nKate and her producing partner\, Alden (Joe) Doolittle\, were honored to receive the 2015 Brother Blue and Ruth Hill Award "in recognition of extraordinary commitment\, dedication and loving encouragement to the storytelling community"\, presented by the LANES-League for the Advancement of New England Storytelling\, now called Northeast Storytelling. \n \nKate received the 2008 Northeast Region ORACLE Award from the National Storytelling Network. All are welcome! \n \nWhat is a Slow Jam? \n \nIt is a group of string instrument players and singers who get together to have fun making music. The “slow” modifier indicates that it is targeted to the following musicians: people who have been playing solo and want to get used to playing in a group setting: people who have just learned how to play and want to play with others; people who have instruments that have been gathering dust for a “few” years; experienced players who are trying out playing instruments other than their primary instrument; people who are comfortable playing their instrument but want to become more comfortable singing/leading a song.. The tunes are played at 80 to 110 BPM and usually in basic keys such a G\, A\, D\, C major\, but it always sounds great to play in some minor keys such as “a”\, “e”\, and “g”. Geils Band. Their blend of thoughtful songwriting\, strong melodies\, and road-tested musicianship earned a devoted following across the U.S. \n \nPousette-Dart’s musical life began early. Raised in New York City\, he picked up the guitar at seven and was performing on national television as a teenager with the band Tony & The Tigers\, appearing on shows like Hullabaloo and To Tell the Truth. By the mid-1970s\, he had formed the Pousette-Dart Band and quickly moved from college stages to national tours and major-label recordings. \n \nAfter the band’s initial run\, Pousette-Dart continued building a wide-ranging career as a songwriter\, slide guitarist\, session musician\, and producer\, working in studios\, television\, and songwriting circles from New York to Nashville. Along the way he collaborated with respected writers including Darrell Scott\, Gary Burr\, Kostas\, Fred Knobloch\, and Gary Nicholson. \n \nIn recent years\, Pousette-Dart has returned to the intimate acoustic format where his songs feel most at home. We sometimes refer to our genre as eclectic acoustic. \n \nRed Spruce and Adirondack Song Dogs will kick off each session with a few tunes then open the floor for musicians to lead their favorite bluegrass tunes and folk music\, backed up by the other pickers in the gathering. Simple tunes are always popular! So sharpen up your axe\, come prepared with your song\, and let us hear some good old fast\, high and lonesome\, some slow and low\, or a good old favorite. All are welcome! \n \nWhat is a Slow Jam? \n \nIt is a group of string instrument players and singers who get together to have fun making music. The “slow” modifier indicates that it is targeted to the following musicians: people who have been playing solo and want to get used to playing in a group setting: people who have just learned how to play and want to play with others; people who have instruments that have been gathering dust for a “few” years; experienced players who are trying out playing instruments other than their primary instrument; people who are comfortable playing their instrument but want to become more comfortable singing/leading a song.. The tunes are played at 80 to 110 BPM and usually in basic keys such a G\, A\, D\, C major\, but it always sounds great to play in some minor keys such as “a”\, “e”\, and “g”. Simple tunes are always popular! So sharpen up your axe\, come prepared with your song\, and let us hear some good old fast\, high and lonesome\, some slow and low\, or a good old favorite. All are welcome! \n \nWhat is a Slow Jam? \n \nIt is a group of string instrument players and singers who get together to have fun making music. The “slow” modifier indicates that it is targeted to the following musicians: people who have been playing solo and want to get used to playing in a group setting: people who have just learned how to play and want to play with others; people who have instruments that have been gathering dust for a “few” years; experienced players who are trying out playing instruments other than their primary instrument; people who are comfortable playing their instrument but want to become more comfortable singing/leading a song.. The tunes are played at 80 to 110 BPM and usually in basic keys such a G\, A\, D\, C major\, but it always sounds great to play in some minor keys such as “a”\, “e”\, and “g”. The result is something closer to a full band than a solo player.   \n \nCastañeda’s work draws from Colombian traditions\, jazz\, and global influences\, moving easily between them without losing its sense of groove. His playing is both highly technical and immediately engaging\, with a strong rhythmic pulse at the center of it. \n \nOver the years\, he has collaborated with artists including Wynton Marsalis\, Béla Fleck\, John Scofield\, and Hiromi\, and has performed everywhere from intimate clubs to major concert halls\, including Carnegie Hall. That sense of movement between worlds shapes her songwriting. It is very personal\, direct\, and informed by a wide musical landscape. \n \nHer work is closely tied to Southern Italian folk traditions\, particularly the songs of Sicilian singer Rosa Balistreri. Through her project To Sing and Recount (Canta e Cunta)\, Pascali has translated and reinterpreted these songs\, bringing their themes into a contemporary context. The result connects older forms of storytelling with present-day experiences\, without losing the character of the originals. \n \nHer recent album\, Roses and Basil\, brings together these reimagined folk songs with her own writing. The arrangements move between folk\, Mediterranean influences\, and contemporary songwriting\, with a focus on narrative and voice. \n \nPascali has performed internationally as a Fulbright Scholar\, appeared at the World Expo in Osaka\, and been an artist-in-residence at the Library of Congress.
