SUMMARY:Forget Everything You Know and Remember All the Things You Are
DESCRIPTION:Instructional \n\n \n Share:\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	Forget Everything You Know and Remember All the Things You Are A two-evening creative practice gathering with Sarah K. Pedinotti (Lip Talk) November 4th and 11th 6 pm – 7 pm $40 In a culture that asks us to be optimized and productive\, we often lose touch with the parts of ourselves that exist simply to experience\, to wonder\, and to play. This two-evening gathering is a space for creative reclamation: a place to step out of a "role" and back into the rhythm of your own humanity. This is not a course about mastering a skill; it's a practice of being. Rather than focusing on the finished product\, we turn our attention to the process: the texture of a sound\, the weight of a found object\, the breath in the body\, and the space between us. We explore the tension between intention and surrender\, learning how to allow creativity to move through us without the need to make it useful or perfect. You are invited to bring whatever tools or inclinations you already possess: a musical instrument\, a visual or writing practice\, a love of movement\, or simply your own curious attention. Whether you consider yourself an artist or not\, the work is not about what you make; it's about who you remember you are. What we'll actually do: Each evening follows the same rhythm\, listen\, play\, make\, share\, so that the structure itself becomes a practice you can carry home. Sessions are one hour: short and focused. No experience with music or improvisation is required. Evening 1\, Listening\, laughter\, and letting go. We begin where all improvisation begins: the ear. We'll practice sonic meditations in the tradition of Pauline Oliveros' Deep Listening\, listening to the room\, to the sounds between sounds\, to our own thoughts\, as we get acquainted and settle in as a group. From there\, we play: call-and-response games and a theater game in the lineage of Viola Spolin\, chosen to make you laugh before you have time to worry about doing it right. Laughter is a release from self-surveillance; it loosens the grip of the inner critic before we ever have to argue with it. Improvisation is about listening and presence. You'll leave with a short listening practice to do at home\, and a prompt to sit with until we meet again. Evening 2\, The gift of the wrong note\, and the ensemble. Our second gathering is devoted to the inner critic\, the voice that says you're doing it wrong\, that you should be further along. Through improv exercises where the "mistake" becomes the material\, we practice noticing the critic without obeying it. Then we make something together in real time\, a collective piece built from conduction-style cues in the spirit of Butch Morris\, where each person's contribution\, however small\, shapes the whole. We'll end by designing a tiny daily practice for each participant to take home: your own personal portal back to the muse. What to expect • Short guided listening practices each session • Playful\, structured prompts\, always with the option to participate in your own medium • Group conversation and reflection • A take-home practice and prompt each evening\, building toward a personal creative ritual • No homework in the usual sense\, only invitations What to bring Yourself\, exactly as you are. Optionally: a notebook\, whatever tool of your practice you love (instrument\, sketchbook\, camera\, nothing at all). Found materials are provided. Bio Sarah K. Pedinotti is a multidisciplinary musician\, producer\, and storyteller based in Brooklyn\, New York. Under the moniker Lip Talk\, she creates music that blurs boundaries between song\, art\, and improvisation. She co-runs Snack Mix\, an ongoing improvisation residency in NYC that brings together a rotating cast of musicians for spontaneous\, exploratory performance. Her multimedia installation\, Mantis Shrimp Matrix\, premiered in Bangkok and Tokyo and most recently traveled to Saratoga Springs for its U.S. debut. Over the past twenty years\, she has produced\, performed\, and recorded across a wide spectrum of styles. She is an artist in residence at Yaddo this year. Originally from New York's Capital Region\, Sarah began performing at local venues including Caffè Lena\, where her love of live improvisation first took root. Her work invites audiences and students alike into a spirit of deep listening\, play\, and creative freedom. Influences and Inspirations • Pauline Oliveros — The practice of Deep Listening and expanding perception. • Nuar Alsadir — The concept of Animal Joy and laughter as a release from self-surveillance. • Viola Spolin — Theater games and the freeing power of play. • adrienne maree brown — The principles of emergent strategy and revolutionary love. • Ross Gay — The cultivation of joy through radical noticing. • Yoko Ono — The power of participatory\, instructional\, and relational art. • Yumi Sakugawa — Meditation comics and gentle daily rituals that make creativity feel like care. • Robin Wall Kimmerer — The wisdom of reciprocity and our relationship with the material world. • Butch Morris — Collective\, real-time composition through conduction. #adultclass \n \n	\n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n	\n\n \n\n	\n \n	\n \n Price\n \n General\n $40.00\n \n \n \n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n \n More Information \n \n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n \n Similar Events\n \n View All\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Mandolin Vitamins – Tunes\, Techniques and Ensemble Music\n\n American Roots Instructional\n \n \n \n \n class\n \n \n\n \n Oct 5 • 10 AM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n After School Folk Ensemble with Oona Grady and James Gascoyne\n\n American Roots Bluegrass Celtic Folk Instructional\n \n \n \n \n class\n \n \n\n \n Oct 7 • 2:30 PM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Cancelled: Forget Everything You Know and Remember All the Things You\n\n Instructional\n \n \n \n \n class\n \n \n\n \n Oct 7 • 6 PM
