We sometimes refer to our genre as eclectic acoustic. \nRed Spruce and Adirondack Song Dogs will kick off each session with a few tunes then open the floor for musicians to lead their favorite bluegrass tunes and folk music\, backed up by the other pickers in the gathering. Simple tunes are always popular! So sharpen up your axe\, come prepared with your song\, and let us hear some good old fast\, high and lonesome\, some slow and low\, or a good old favorite. All are welcome! \nWhat is a Slow Jam? \nIt is a group of string instrument players and singers who get together to have fun making music. The “slow” modifier indicates that it is targeted to the following musicians: people who have been playing solo and want to get used to playing in a group setting: people who have just learned how to play and want to play with others; people who have instruments that have been gathering dust for a “few” years; experienced players who are trying out playing instruments other than their primary instrument; people who are comfortable playing their instrument but want to become more comfortable singing/leading a song.. The tunes are played at 80 to 110 BPM and usually in basic keys such a G\, A\, D\, C major\, but it always sounds great to play in some minor keys such as “a”\, “e”\, and “g”. We will try to avoid “jam busters.” It is our hope that after this experience you will feel more comfortable playing at the many open jams and open mics that can be found in our area. \n \n	\n \n\n\n\n\n \n Doors Open\n Doors Open: 6:30 pm	\n \n \n	\n \n Price\n \n Member\n $16.27\n \n \n \n \n \n General\n $16.27\n \n \n \n \n \n Child or Student\n $16.27\n \n \n \n				 \n inclusive of fees\n \n \n \n \n \n Get Tickets \n \n	\n \n\n \n \n Similar Events\n \n View All\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Storytelling Open Mic Featuring Kelvin Keraga\n\n Multi-act Program Open Mic Storytelling\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Apr 7 • 7 PM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Dan Berggren & Jeannine Laverty\n\n Folk Singer Songwriter Storytelling\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Apr 19 • 2 PM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Rochmon Record Club Listening Party: The Who’s “Quadrophenia”\n\n Other Rock\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Apr 21 • 7 PM

We sometimes refer to our genre as eclectic acoustic. \n \nRed Spruce and Adirondack Song Dogs will kick off each session with a few tunes then open the floor for musicians to lead their favorite bluegrass tunes and folk music\, backed up by the other pickers in the gathering. Simple tunes are always popular! So sharpen up your axe\, come prepared with your song\, and let us hear some good old fast\, high and lonesome\, some slow and low\, or a good old favorite. All are welcome! \n \nWhat is a Slow Jam? \n \nIt is a group of string instrument players and singers who get together to have fun making music. \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n	\n Doors Open\n Doors Open: 6:30 pm	\n \n \n	\n	\n \n Price\n \n Member\n $16.27\n \n \n \n \n \n General\n $16.27\n \n \n \n \n \n Child or Student\n $16.27\n \n \n \n				 \n inclusive of fees\n \n \n \n \n	\n \n Get Tickets \n \n Streaming\n \n \n \n\n\n \n	\n \n Similar Events\n \n View All\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Bright Series: Cristina Vane\n\n American Roots Bluegrass Blues Rock\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n May 7 • 7 PM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Rochmon Record Club Listening Party: Led Zeppelin II\n\n Other Rock Storytelling\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n May 19 • 7 PM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Super 400\n\n Rock\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n May 31 • 7 PM

That approach\, once unusual\, helped open the door for the wider range of influences heard in bluegrass today. \n \nThe current lineup\, Lou Reid (guitar\, mandolin)\, Ronnie Simpkins (bass)\, Ron Stewart (banjo\, fiddle)\, Fred Travers (dobro)\, and Clay Hess (guitar)\, continues that tradition. The playing is tight and rooted\, with a focus on strong arrangements\, clear vocals\, and the interplay that comes from years of experience. \n \nOver the decades\, The Seldom Scene has remained a steady presence in bluegrass\, known for bringing new songs into the tradition while keeping the core sound intact. Their interpretations\, whether of classic country\, folk\, or original material\, reflect a band that understands the form and knows how to stretch it without losing its center. \n \nSAMPLE SONG \n \nNEWS PIECE \n \nStream this show live at Caffè Lena TV. For the June edition of the Captain Fun Lunchtime Listening Hour\, our playlist curator will be our beloved Director of Finance & Operations\, Mateo Vosganian! The D.J. spinning those records will be the Rochmon himself – Chuck “Rochmon” Vosganian. \n \nAll are welcome to gather at Lena’s from Noon to 1 PM on the last Friday of each month to enjoy musical memories and new discoveries. The playlist is selected by a different community member each month from the Captain Fun Listening Library of vinyl records in Lena’s lobby. Bring a brown bag lunch. Coffee and tea are provided. \n \nThe Captain Fun Listening Library occupying the north wall in the Caffè Lena lobby consists of 1\,516 vinyl albums and several hundred CDs selected from Al “Captain Fun” McKenney’s expertly curated collection. This treasure trove of folk\, blues and jazz was left us in 2015 and we share it through our monthly listening hour\, as Al wished.  \n \nEnjoy the memories these records bring back\, and dig deep into American roots music.    \n \nIf you want to create a playlist and host a session\, please email Laura Sterling or let us know when you are next at Lena’s!  \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n	\n Doors Open\n Doors Open: 6:30 pm	\n \n \n	\n	\n \n Price\n \n Member\n $16.27\n \n \n \n \n \n General\n $16.27\n \n \n \n \n \n Child or Student\n $16.27\n \n \n \n				 \n inclusive of fees\n \n \n \n \n	\n \n Get Tickets \n \n Streaming\n \n \n \n\n\n \n	\n \n Similar Events\n \n View All\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Bright Series: Cristina Vane\n\n American Roots Bluegrass Blues Rock\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n May 7 • 7 PM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Rochmon Record Club Listening Party: Led Zeppelin II\n\n Other Rock Storytelling\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n May 19 • 7 PM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Super 400\n\n Rock\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n May 31 • 7 PM

SUMMARY:Nordlys Global Voices Series: Amanda Pascali
DESCRIPTION:Rock \n\n \n Share:\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n	\n \n\n\n\n\n\nAmanda Pascali draws from multiple traditions and makes them her own. \nBorn into a multicultural family with roots in Egypt\, France\, Italy\, and Romania\, she grew up navigating different languages\, histories\, and identities. That sense of movement between worlds shapes her songwriting. It is very personal\, direct\, and informed by a wide musical landscape. \nHer work is closely tied to Southern Italian folk traditions\, particularly the songs of Sicilian singer Rosa Balistreri. Through her project To Sing and Recount (Canta e Cunta)\, Pascali has translated and reinterpreted these songs\, bringing their themes into a contemporary context. The result connects older forms of storytelling with present-day experiences\, without losing the character of the originals. \nHer recent album\, Roses and Basil\, brings together these reimagined folk songs with her own writing. The arrangements move between folk\, Mediterranean influences\, and contemporary songwriting\, with a focus on narrative and voice. \nPascali has performed internationally as a Fulbright Scholar\, appeared at the World Expo in Osaka\, and been an artist-in-residence at the Library of Congress. Her work has also found a wide audience online\, where her interpretations of traditional songs continue to reach new listeners. \nSAMPLE SONG \nThis is a chance to hear how older and traditional songs can shift and take on new meaning\, carried forward by a songwriter who approaches them with both care and curiosity. \n“Pascali is not only a powerful poet with an angelic voice but an unstoppable force.” —GUITAR THRILLS\nMade possible by The Nordlys Foundation. \nStream this show live at Caffè Lena TV. DESCRIPTION:Other Rock Storytelling \n\n \n Share:\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n	\n \n\n\n\n\n\nEdmar Castañeda has changed what people think the harp can do. \nOriginally from Colombia and now based in New York\, he has developed a style that allows him to play bass lines\, chords\, and melody all at once\, turning the harp into a complete\, rhythm-driven instrument. The result is something closer to a full band than a solo player.   \nCastañeda’s work draws from Colombian traditions\, jazz\, and global influences\, moving easily between them without losing its sense of groove. His playing is both highly technical and immediately engaging\, with a strong rhythmic pulse at the center of it. \nOver the years\, he has collaborated with artists including Wynton Marsalis\, Béla Fleck\, John Scofield\, and Hiromi\, and has performed everywhere from intimate clubs to major concert halls\, including Carnegie Hall. His compositions range from small ensemble pieces to large-scale works for orchestra and big band. \nMore recently\, his music has reached wider audiences through projects like being a consultant on Disney’s Encanto and appearing on the soundtrack\, and through his ongoing work as a composer and bandleader.  \nHe appears at Lena’s with his Quartet with players Andrea Tierra on Vocals\, Birsa Chatterjee on Tenor Sax\, Julian Miltenberger on Drums and Special guests Zeudi Castaneda on Vocals\, and Zamir Castaneda on Trumpet and Maracas. \nSAMPLE SONG \nUp close in a room like Lena’s\, the precision stands out\, but so does the groove that runs through everything. \nThe Peak Jazz Series is made possible by the generous support of Joseph & Luann Conlon in memory of Corrine Simonds. \nStream this show live at Caffè Lena TV. DESCRIPTION:Rock \n\n \n Share:\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n	\n \n\n\n\n\n\nJoin us for an evening of deep listening and musical storytelling with Rochmon Record Club\, held every third Tuesday of the month at Caffè Lena. \nOn Tuesday\, June 16th\, Rochmon Record Club  will converge at Caffe’ Lena 47 Phila Street\, Saratoga Springs\, to listen to\, and learn about The Guess Who and listen to their 1971 compilation album\, “The Best of The Guess Who”.  \nThe Guess Who formed in 1958 in Winnipeg\, Canada. In 1969\, they snuck over the Canadian border and took over American radio for the next 3 years. Hit after hit\, song after song\, The Guess Who\, with lead singer Burton Cummings’ distinctive voice\, was instantly recognizable. We’ll listen to the hits\, “These Eyes”\, “Laughing”\, “No Time”\, “American Woman”\, “Share The Land”\, and six more.  \nThe Rochmon says\, “This one holds a special place in my own story which I will wait to share!  No Spoilers! AND? Still no spoilers!” \nDoors open at 6:30\, and the show begins at 7 pm with a live audio & video presentation by Chuck Vosganian aka “Rochmon”. As always\, Rochmon will have some surprises in store! These listening parties are designed to inform\, engage\, and help us hear familiar music in brand-new ways. \nFor Rochmaniacs at a distance\, Rochmon Record Club will also be streaming live on Caffe’ Lena TV.   \nBy listening together\, we experience the album not just as fans\, but as curious explorers—rediscovering the art and intention behind every note. Whether you're a lifelong collector or simply love great music\, you'll leave with a deeper connection to the record—and maybe a few surprises along the way. \nCome curious. Leave inspired. \nNote: Caffe Lena does not permit ticket reselling above face value. Tickets purchased for the purpose of resale may be canceled without notice\, and refunds for such purchases will not be granted. \n \n	\n \n\n\n\n\n \n Doors Open\n Doors Open: 6:30 pm	\n \n \n	\n \n Price\n \n Member\n $23.86\n \n \n \n \n \n General\n $27.11\n \n \n \n \n \n Child or Student\n $13.56\n \n \n \n				 \n inclusive of fees\n \n \n \n \n \n Get Tickets \n \n	\n \n\n \n \n Similar Events\n \n View All\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Rochmon Record Club Listening Party: The Who’s “Quadrophenia”\n\n Other Rock\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n Apr 21 • 7 PM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Bright Series: Cristina Vane\n\n American Roots Bluegrass Blues Rock\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n May 7 • 7 PM \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n\n \n\n Rochmon Record Club Listening Party: Led Zeppelin II\n\n Other Rock Storytelling\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n\n \n May 19 • 7 PM

Hughes’ guitar work and the duos' emotive harmony vocals are pure magic. Their music moves easily between styles like folk\, Americana\, and acoustic indie without ever losing its focus on strong songwriting and clear\, expressive performances. It’s a sound that has carried them from the UK to festivals across the U.S.\, including Philadelphia Folk Festival\, Kate Wolf Music Festival\, and AmericanaFest\, as well as official showcases at multiple Folk Alliance conferences. \nSAMPLE SONG \n“…stunning harmonies that were so good it reminded me of seeing Gillian Welch and David Rawlings” –No Depression \n“The Black Feathers are acoustic\, but with enough power and force to drive a sledgehammer.” –fRoots Magazine \n“Sheer poetic beauty both lyrically and musically.” –Cryptic Rock \nInterspersed with their sparkling ballads they share a ripping sense of humor that never fails to leave the audience in stitches. \nStream this show live at Caffè Lena TV.
