Want to share a theater piece you’re writing? Join us for the 1st Sunday monthly Playwright’s Jams! A monthly meetup hosted by Caffe Lena for local writers\, actors & directors The First Sunday of the Month 1:30pm- 4:00pm Doors open at 1:00; Casting begins at 1:15pm and Readings start at 1:30pm! Bring your great ideas\, your new scripts\, your edits and your friends for an inspiring afternoon fo theater in the making. Playwrights should bring a highlighted script for each of their actors and one extra for stage directionsBring a short scene (7-8 minutes). Cast your actors from the audience\, including your fellow playwrights. Give them brief directions and then put them on stage to read your script. We’ll go around the room after the reading and let everyone give a “popcorn” reaction (one word!).Each meeting will include 6 or 7 scenes selected at random from those submitted. After the readings we’ll have time to hang out and get acquainted. This event will be co-hosted by Michael Wells-Oakes and Vivian Nesbitt Playwright Nice! We foster a diverse community that has a great time making art and helping one another get better. Excessive profanity\, explicit sexual themes and “humor” that unkindly targets a specific group undermines this goal. It is up to the discretion of the host to enforce the house standards. \n \n	\n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n Doors Open\n Doors Open: 6:30 pm	\n \n	\n\n \n\n	\n \n	\n \n Price\n \n Member\n $29.28\n \n \n \n \n \n General\n $32.53\n \n \n \n \n \n Child or Student\n $16.27\n \n \n \n				 \n inclusive of fees\n \n \n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n \n Get Tickets \n \n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n \n \n Similar Events\n \n View All\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n \n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n	\n \n\n Farah Siraj\n\n Global\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n \n \n Nov 15 • 7 PM \n \n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n \n \n Caffè Lena\n	\n	\n \n\n Momentum Series: Heard\n\n Global\n \n \n \n \n event\n \n \n \n \n Nov 27 • 8 PM

SUMMARY:Melissa Ferrick
DESCRIPTION:Global \n\n \n Share:\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	\n	Some artists spend their careers finding a lane. Melissa Ferrick has spent more than three decades refusing to stay in one. Part confessional folk singer\, part rock-and-roll firebrand and part Americana storyteller\, Ferrick is the kind of performer who can turn an intimate room into something much bigger. There’s virtuosic guitar playing\, a voice that can move from tenderness to full-throated power\, wickedly funny between-song storytelling\, and the emotional fearlessness of a songwriter who has never been particularly interested in keeping audiences at a safe distance. Ferrick earned that fearlessness the old-fashioned way. Classically trained in violin and piano and schooled in jazz trumpet and bass\, she eventually taught herself guitar and found her way into the Cambridge\, Massachusetts club scene that launched artists including the Indigo Girls and The Pixies. Then\, in 1991\, came one of those music-business stories that sounds almost too good to be true: Ferrick was asked to open for Morrissey with just an hour’s notice. The performance led to a spot on his U.S. and UK tour\, followed by a deal with Atlantic Records and the release of her critically acclaimed 1993 debut\, Massive Blur. Her sophomore release\, Willing to Wait\, followed in 1995. But the major-label world was only the beginning. Across more than 18 releases\, Ferrick has built a career around independence\, curiosity and the freedom to change. She launched her own label\, Right On Records\, in 2000 and has continued writing\, recording and touring while sharing stages with an extraordinary range of artists including Bob Dylan\, Ani DiFranco\, Lori McKenna\, Suzanne Vega\, Joan Armatrading\, Tegan and Sara\, Weezer\, Paul Westerberg\, John Hiatt\, Shawn Colvin and Marc Cohn. In 2023\, Ferrick signed with Kill Rock Stars\, a fitting home for an artist whose career has been built on authentic storytelling and doing things her own way. More than three decades in\, she has something increasingly rare: a fiercely loyal audience\, a catalog deep enough to reward longtime listeners\, and a live show capable of pulling someone hearing her for the first time right into the middle of it. Ferrick’s influence reaches beyond the songs. As one of the relatively few openly queer artists navigating the music industry in the 1990s\, she challenged the sexism\, homophobia and rigid gender expectations she encountered along the way and helped make more room for the artists who followed. From 2011 through 2026\, she also brought decades of experience into the classroom at Berklee College of Music and Northeastern University\, teaching music business\, songwriting and the psychology of creativity. She holds a master’s degree from Harvard University\, and added another role to her remarkable résumé as a booking agent with Paladin.  But none of those credentials quite explains a Melissa Ferrick concert. For that\, you need the songs\, the guitar\, the humor\, the stories\, and an artist who\, after more than 30 years\, can still make a room full of people feel as though something is happening between them that won't happen quite the same way again.
