SUMMARY:Momentum Series: Carolyn Wonderland
DESCRIPTION:Multi-act Program Open Mic Other \n\n \n Share:\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nA true force of nature\, Carolyn Wonderland delivers blues with grit\, grace\, and an unshakable voice that can raise the rafters or still a room. Hailed as “The Bluesman” by Aretha Franklin and praised by Bob Dylan for her songwriting\, Wonderland is a genre-shaping guitarist\, vocalist\, and songwriter whose life story reads like a legend\, and whose live shows burn with passion and presence. \n \nRaised in Houston\, trained on her mother’s vintage Martin\, Carolyn picked up guitar before dolls and grew up immersed in the Texas blues tradition\, swapping songs with Townes Van Zandt and sneaking into clubs as a teenager. She’s been on the road ever since\, sharing stages with Bonnie Raitt\, Los Lobos\, Levon Helm\, Buddy Guy\, Bob Dylan\, Hubert Sumlin and Johnny Winter\, and earning praise from No Depression\, Austin City Limits\, and Rolling Stone\, among others. \n \nWonderland is a multi-instrumentalist (guitar\, trumpet\, accordion\, lap steel\, piano)\, whistler\, and fierce storyteller who has been touring for over 25 years across the US\, Europe\, South America and Japan. \n \nShe is the former lead guitarist in John Mayall’s band and has collaborated with James Williamson (The Stooges)\, Marcia Ball\, Ruthie Foster\, Sarah Brown\, Cindy Cashdollar\, and many more. \n \nWith a discography that spans raw blues\, gospel\, country soul\, and rebel rock\, Carolyn’s songs are personal and political\, joyful and searing. Her latest releases continue a decades-long legacy of truth-telling and genre-bending\, cementing her status as one of the most powerful blueswomen of our time. She’ll be appearing with her band\, Shelly King on acoustic guitar and vocals\, Giovanni “Nooch”Carnuccio on drum and vocals\, Naj Conklin on bass and vocals\, and Kevin Lance on drums. \n \nIndustry maven Bill Bentley\, writing in Americana Highways\, said\, "Wonderland's an astounding songwriter…and her ability to totally pull other songs into her own world is the mark of an all-timer. There are no limits to what she can do [with her] powerful vocals and whip-ass guitar playing. It's clear she isn't fooling around."  \n \nSAMPLE SONG \n \nCome experience the fire\, the finesse\, and the fierce joy of Carolyn Wonderland. \n \nThis show is part of our Momentum Series\, made possible by the generous support of Joseph & Luann Conlon\, in honor of Thom O'Neil. \n \nStream this show live at Caffè Lena TV. Livestream available for $5 – 100% of live stream tickets on CaffeLenaTV benefit the artists.
