Established by Artist-in-Residence Joel Brown before his retirement from Skidmore\, the Songwriters’ Workshop continues under the direction of Prof. Adam Tinkle\, multidisciplinary artist and multi-instrumentalist noted for both folk-tinged and experimental projects that have been presented both locally and internationally. This semester’s workshop members include seniors Frances Davies and Ellie Ushakov (familiar faces in the Caffè and\, as Question of the Century\, on its stage)\, as well as first year students El Frary and Willa McMaken-Marsh\, who wowed with songs and stories at recent Caffè open mic nights. Expect introspective autofictions\, ballads based on true stories\, settings of poetry\, and possibly some contenders for songs that could appear in Skidmore College: The Musical…Free admission – donations welcome. Caffè Lena’s full menu will be available. Stream this show live for free at Caffè Lena TV. Note: Caffe Lena does not permit ticket reselling above face value. As the longtime frontman\, songwriter\, and creative force behind The Jayhawks\, Louris helped define a generation of roots-influenced rock with music celebrated for its emotional depth\, luminous melodies\, and timeless craftsmanship. Over more than three decades\, his artistry and integrity have earned him a devoted international following and the deep respect of fellow musicians. \n \nBeyond The Jayhawks\, Louris has explored an extraordinary range of collaborations. He has been a founding member of the alt-rock collective Golden Smog\, worked with artists including Wilco\, Lucinda Williams\, Nickel Creek\, and Counting Crows\, and contributed songs to GRAMMY®-winning projects by The Chicks and Tedeschi Trucks Band. Whether producing\, writing\, or performing\, his musical voice remains unmistakable. It’s thoughtful\, melodic\, and deeply human. \n \nLouris’s solo work reveals the same emotional clarity that has long defined his songwriting. His most recent release\, Dark Country (Thirty Tigers)\, arrived to widespread acclaim\, with Spin naming it one of the standout albums of 2025. Introspective yet expansive\, the record highlights a songwriter still pushing forward while remaining rooted in the traditions that shaped him. \n \nAt Caffè Lena\, audiences can expect an intimate evening with one of America’s great songwriters. His music is delivered with warmth\, honesty\, and the quiet power of a seasoned storyteller.
