Want to share a theater piece you’re writing? Join us for the 1st Sunday monthly Playwright’s Jams! A monthly meetup hosted by Caffe Lena for local writers\, actors & directors The First Sunday of the Month 1:30pm- 4:00pm Doors open at 1:00; Casting begins at 1:15pm and Readings start at 1:30pm! Bring your great ideas\, your new scripts\, your edits and your friends for an inspiring afternoon fo theater in the making. Playwrights should bring a highlighted script for each of their actors and one extra for stage directionsBring a short scene (7-8 minutes). Cast your actors from the audience\, including your fellow playwrights. Give them brief directions and then put them on stage to read your script. We’ll go around the room after the reading and let everyone give a “popcorn” reaction (one word!).Each meeting will include 6 or 7 scenes selected at random from those submitted. After the readings we’ll have time to hang out and get acquainted.  This event will be co-hosted by Michael Wells-Oakes and Vivian NesbittPlaywright Nice! We foster a diverse community that has a great time making art and helping one another get better. Excessive profanity\, explicit sexual themes and “humor” that unkindly targets a specific group undermines this goal. DESCRIPTION:Multi-act Program Open Mic		\n\n		\n			Share:\n			\n								\n				\n					\n				\n\n				\n				\n					\n				\n\n				\n				\n					\n				\n\n				\n				\n					\n				\n			\n		\n\n	 \n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nLed by the incomparable Gina Coleman—a vocalist with fire\, grit\, and deep emotional range—Misty Blues delivers original music inspired by Koko Taylor\, Bessie Smith\, Billie Holiday\, and the great American blues tradition. Gina’s story is as compelling as her voice: from a dare to sing in 1990 to performing at the Williamstown Theatre Festival\, NYC’s Bitter End\, and recording with Charles Neville and Joe Louis Walker\, she brings decades of artistry\, heart\, and authenticity to the stage. \n \nMisty Blues is fueled by an all-star lineup of multi-instrumentalists and musical shapeshifters: \n \nRob Tatten – drummer\, trumpeter\, trombonist\, vocalist\, and longtime music educator with a gift for rhythm and soul. \n \nAaron Dean – saxophonist and “bad mamma jamma\,” a jazz-trained performer who lights up every stage he touches. \n \nSeth Fleischmann – guitar slinger with chops ranging from metal to acoustic blues and everything in between. \n \nDiego Mongue – Gina’s son\, a rising phenom and multi-instrumentalist (bass\, drums\, guitar\, pedal steel) whose bands have already reached the semifinals of the International Blues Challenge. \n \nMichael Mongue – the band’s visual soul\, creating all album artwork and adding a quiet creative force behind the scenes. \n \nWith a rotating “farm team” of top-tier musicians\, the Misty Blues sound is always tight\, soulful\, and absolutely electric. \n \nThe band has earned two Independent Blues Award nominations\, opened for giants like Tab Benoit\, John Primer\, Albert Cummings\, and Michael Powers\, and continues to push the genre forward with fresh writing\, fearless energy\, and their signature blend of blues\, gospel\, jazz\, and funk. \n \nSAMPLE SONG \n \nIf you love blues that hits hard\, vocals that shake the rafters\, and a band that plays with heart and heat—don’t miss Misty Blues at Caffè Lena. \n \nThis show is part of our Momentum Series\, made possible by Joe & Luann Conlon.
