SUGGESTED DONATION AT THE DOOR. $5.00 per person Our jams are all about sharing songs\, making new friends\, and enjoying a relaxing and casual evening of irresistible string band music. ALL are welcome to join the circle for an afternoon or evening playing and listening to classic grass\, new grass and folk favorites. We sometimes refer to our genre as eclectic acoustic. Red Spruce and Adirondack Song Dogs will kick off each session with a few tunes then open the floor for musicians to lead their favorite bluegrass tunes and folk music\, backed up by the other pickers in the gathering. Simple tunes are always popular! So sharpen up your axe\, come prepared with your song\, and let us hear some good old fast\, high and lonesome\, some slow and low\, or a good old favorite. All are welcome! What is a Slow Jam? It is a group of string instrument players and singers who get together to have fun making music. The “slow” modifier indicates that it is targeted to the following musicians: people who have been playing solo and want to get used to playing in a group setting: people who have just learned how to play and want to play with others; people who have instruments that have been gathering dust for a “few” years; experienced players who are trying out playing instruments other than their primary instrument; people who are comfortable playing their instrument but want to become more comfortable singing/leading a song.. The tunes are played at 80 to 110 BPM and usually in basic keys such a G\, A\, D\, C major\, but it always sounds great to play in some minor keys such as “a”\, “e”\, and “g”. DESCRIPTION:American Roots Blues Folk Singer Songwriter		\n\n		\n			Share:\n			\n								\n				\n					\n				\n\n				\n				\n					\n				\n\n				\n				\n					\n				\n\n				\n				\n					\n				\n			\n		\n\n	 \n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nGirl Love is the solo folk project of poet and songwriter Laura Beth Johnson\, an award-winning artist based in Upstate New York. Known for her dark blend of story and soul\, Laura creates music that affirms queer holiness through haunting melodies\, brash vocals\, and deeply personal storytelling. \n \nWinner of The Folk Project’s New Jersey Songwriter’s Contest\, Laura has been recognized with songwriting and poetry scholarships from Image Magazine\, Hudson Valley Writers Guild\, and Music Masters Collective. Her spoken word piece “Crazy and Special” earned the Lucy Monroe Brooker Poetry Prize in 2017\, and in 2024 she was selected as one of ten Capital Region songwriters for the INK Songwriter’s Retreat by SongCity of Troy. \n \nHer debut indie-folk album The Sorrow Estate introduced her as a fearless new voice\, and her 2023 sophomore release Girl Love was celebrated with a sold-out show right here at Caffè Lena. Along the way\, she shared the stage with Mary Gauthier\, Laurie MacAllister of Red Molly\, and Sawyer Fredericks. \n \nThis show is an EP Release Party for "Holy Now\," Girl Love's new record. The three-song EP Holy Now offers a bold and tender exploration of queer identity\, protest\, and radical love. Each track contributes to Girl Love’s mission of affirming queer holiness and uplifting LGBTQ+ stories. \n \nWith Holy Now\, Girl Love weaves together defiance\, joy\, and reverence—reimagining holiness through a queer lens.  \n \nSAMPLE SONG \n \nOpening for Girl Love is Brooklyn-based songwriter Dustin Lowman crafts lyric-driven songs that deconstruct the nonsense of everyday life. His self-taught blend of voice\, guitar\, and harmonica draws inspiration from troubadours like Bob Dylan\, Leonard Cohen\, Aimee Mann\, and Adrianne Lenker\, offering music that’s equal parts poignant and playfully absurd. \n \nDustin has shared stages with Marcellus Hall\, Will Dailey\, and Ira Wolf\, and hosts His Back Pages\, a Bob Dylan deep-cut series at Café Wha? in NYC’s West Village.
