At its heart, TrueSongs shines a light on the work of local nonprofits that help create a healthier, more compassionate community. The event pairs six local individuals—each supported by a local nonprofit that helped them overcome a major life challenge—with professional songwriters and storytellers who guide them in transforming their experience into an original true story and song performed on stage.
This year, our neighbors represent:
- CAPTAIN Community Human Services – Speaker: Rebecca Lefevre | Songwriter: Emily Barnes | Coach:Christie Keegan
- Epilepsy Foundation of Northeastern New York – Speaker: Teaghan Ketchum | Songwriter: Sirsy | Coach:Shawn Banner
- RISE Housing & Support Services – Speaker: Robert Winkler | Songwriter: Rachel Sumner | Coach: Margaret French
- All Abilities Productions – Speaker: Keely Milligan | Songwriter: Reese Fulmer | Coach: Vivian Nesbitt
- Sustainable Saratoga – Speakers: Tom Stock & Joanne Yepsen | Songwriter: Dan Berggren | Coach: Jeannine Laverty
- Camp Stomping Ground – Speaker: Daniel C. | Songwriter: Crys Matthews | Coach: Claire Nolan
“These stories remind us how many people quietly face—and overcome—extraordinary challenges, often with the help of organizations doing life-changing work right here at home,” said Sarah Craig, Executive Director of Caffè Lena. “The audience gets to see a side of the community that is usually invisible to us. We have no idea what kind of struggles the people around us have faced, and hearing these stories firsthand changes the way you see the world.”
Performances by Crys Matthews, Emily Barnes, Sirsy, Rachel Sumner, Reese Fulmer, and Dan Berggren will bring these local stories to life through song, creating an evening that uplifts, unites, and celebrates the power of empathy.
“TrueSongs is about community at its deepest level,” Craig added. “We hear firsthand how our neighbors have overcome challenges and then experience those stories transformed into song. It’s an evening that builds connection and reminds us of the shared humanity that binds us all.”
