For almost 60 years, the Heavenly Echoes Gospel Band has been a steady presence in the Capital Region, carrying forward a gospel tradition built on faith, harmony, and community.
Founded in the mid-1960s by James Edmonds, the group was created as an open, welcoming ensemble, bringing together singers and musicians from different churches and neighborhoods. That spirit of inclusion has remained central to the band’s identity, even as generations of members have come and gone.
What has stayed constant is the music. Rooted in traditional gospel, their sound is shaped by voices that have been singing these songs for decades, alongside newer members who have learned them firsthand. The result is a living tradition of songs passed down, shared, and still resonating with audiences today.
The Heavenly Echoes have performed throughout the region at churches, community gatherings, and cultural events, always with the same approach: showing up, connecting with the audience, and letting the music do its work.
They were just inducted into the Capital Region Thomas Edison Music Hall of Fame, recognizing not just their longevity, but their role in sustaining and sharing this music across generations.
