
Cheryl Clarke is an American lesbian poet, essayist, educator and Black feminist community activist. She is the author of eight books of poetry, the literary study AFTER MECCA: WOMEN POETS AND THE BLACK ARTS MOVEMENT, and the collection DAYS OF GOOD LOOKS: PROSE AND POETRY, 1980-2005. Forthcoming in 2026 from Sinister Wisdom Press is ACTS OF RESISTANCE: ESSAYS AND ARCHIVAL ENCOUNTERS. She is a co-organizer, since 2013, of the annual three day Hobart Festival of Women Writers, which brings up to 20 professional women writers to the Hobart Book Village to conduct writing workshops and public readings. She lives and writes in Hobart, N.Y.
