Peak Jazz Series: Dave Stryker Trio
Jazz

“Guitarist / composer Dave Stryker possesses golden tone, urgent style, and the kind of

heated technique that can blow the roof off any gig. Stryker cut his teeth with organist

Jack McDuff and tenor saxophonist Stanley Turrentine, and that grits-n-gravy goodness

seemed to mark his music: an urban tale spinner, a sharp stylist able to improve any

bandstand, a storyteller in sound of the highest degree.”

                                                                                         – Ken Micallef / Jazz Times Jan 2022

Whether performing with his own groups or sharing the stage with jazz legends like Stanley Turrentine and Jack McDuff, Dave Stryker has carved out a place as one of today’s most distinctive and soulful jazz guitarists. With 35 albums as a leader,  over 75 as a sideman, countless accolades—including being named Best Guitarist in many jazz publications’ Readers and Critics Polsl—and a track record of #1 releases on the JazzWeek radio chart, Stryker continues to expand what jazz guitar can be.

The Dave Stryker Trio, showcases the electrifying chemistry of longtime collaborators Jared Gold(organ) and McClenty Hunter (drums)—a rhythm section that’s as deep in groove as it is daring in improvisation. The trio toured as the opener for Steely Dan’s Earth After Hours tour, and their albums are a thrilling testament to the power of a tight, soulful jazz unit in full stride.

Stryker’s style blends bluesy grit, melodic elegance, and an infectious sense of swing. A former protégé of Stanley Turrentine, he’s brought his joyful, groove-forward approach to audiences around the world—from Birdland and the Blue Note to Newport Jazz Festival and Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola.
