October Feature: Ray Guiguere & Dave Scheffel

Ray Guiguere has been an acoustic blues enthusiast since first beginning fingerstyle blues guitar in his early 20s. Mostly self-taught, he was strongly influenced by Paul Geremia, Roy Book Binder and Dave Van Ronk. Around 2002 Ray met Dave Scheffel and Phil Drum while playing at Caffe Lena and the three founded the Saratoga Acoustic Blues Society in 2008. Over the years Ray and Dave have played together at several venues in Saratoga, most often at Caffe Lena’s open mic. They enjoy interpreting vintage blues numbers from Robert Johnson, Blind Blake and Blind Lemon Jefferson, as well as from Mississippi John Hurt and Gary Davis.

Dave Scheffel has always been a lifelong lover of the blues. He originally hails from Kingston NY and now plays mostly in the Saratoga music scene. Dave is a self taught harmonica player who enjoys electric and acoustic blues. He was an member of the now defunked blues band Bluesology. When not playing with Ray Guiguere he can be found playing alongside many of Saratoga’s blues and folk artist such as the Resonators, Rich Ortiz. Gail Sparlin and many others. Dave has been a frequent guest of artists on WRPI’s Stormy Monday Blues radio show. Dave’s influences are James Cotton, Paul Butterfield and James Harman to name a few.
