Greetings – It’s Monday morning and that means Caffe Lena is in your inbox with some wonderful music. All year long you can count on this small but mighty nonprofit venue for relaxation, nostalgia and new discovery. I’m asking you to please help us keep it flowing with a gift to our Annual Fund Drive. We need to raise $55,000 between now and December 31 in order to cover the gap between earned revenue and the actual cost of our award-winning concerts, community programs and School of Music. I would be very grateful if you could take a minute to click that big black button below.

Most of this weekend’s shows are close to selling out, with one already completely full. Please scan ahead in the schedule to make sure you don’t miss out on something you’d like to see. With that said, I’m sorry to say that we’ve had some unexpected changes to the paper calendar you may have received in the mail recently:

November 30 – Arlen Roth has to postpone for health reasons. We’ll likely be closed that night.
December 12 – Cyrille Aimee has postponed to April 17 for a health reason that we understand is a happy one. 🙂 Fabulous guitarist Kaki King has taken the date.
December 14 & 15 – Peter Yarrow has had to cancel and we’re sad to learn that he will likely not be able to perform any more concerts. We’re working to find another show for these dates.

See you at the show,
Sarah

Considered an Americana concept album, The Band picks up where Music From Big Pink left off and explores the characters and history of America through music. Songs include “Up On Cripple Creek,” “Rag Mama Rag,” “Rockin’ Chair,” “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down,” “King Harvest (Has Surely Come),” and seven more. A Rochmon Record Club Listening Party deepens our understanding of the individual performers, songs, and stories that went into the making of this classic album.

Three towering talents of acoustic blues take us on a rollicking tour through the Delta, the Piedmont, the Paramount record catalog of the ’20s and ’30s, and pieces learned first-hand from the American blues creators themselves.

There’s nobody who helps us unwind, let our guard down, and open our hearts like Lucy Kaplansky. Her exquisite new folk has been featured on NPR, CBS Sunday Morning, and she has sung harmony on albums by Suzanne Vega, Bryan Ferry, Nanci Griffith and Shawn Colvin.

This evolving band’s elegant chamber-folk compositions and extraordinary vocal harmonies have earned praise from Rolling Stone and The New Yorker, fostering a worldwide following. They’re keeping their repertoire fresh with new songs that delve deep, exploring loss and redemption.

Audiences LOVE the high-spirited jazz and blues of the Capital Region’s favorite old-school band. From the gospel-rock of Sister Rosetta Tharpe to the irresistible swing of Fats Waller, the torchy, honey voice of Annie Rosen takes center stage, with super-tight, buoyant, full-band accompaniment.

This young, 2x Grammy nominee is redefining jazz tradition with an exuberant, intellectual approach that is exciting a new generation of fans. “Horn is among the most exciting young vocalists in jazz, with a proud traditionalism that keeps her tightly linked to the sound of classic figures like Nancy Wilson and Betty Carter, but a vivacity of spirit and conviction that places her firmly in the present.”
