In early 1982 Bruce Springsteen, a prolific songwriter, was full of stories. Bruce’s 70-plus songs resulted in 2 albums, the solo-acoustic Nebraska and Born In The U.S.A. The 12 songs on Born In The U.S.A., one of the best-selling albums of all time, include the title track, “Cover Me”, “I’m On Fire”, “No Surrender”, “Bobby Jean“, “Glory Days”, “Dancing In The Dark”, “My Hometown” and 4 more. A Rochmon Record Club Listening Party is meant to inform and deepen our understanding of the history of the individual performers, songs, and stories that went into the making of this classic album.

Australian singer, songwriter and fingerstyle guitar virtuoso Champagne trained classically through his teens and hit the road at age 18 to play major festivals and share stages with the likes of Tommy Emmanuel, INXS, Lucinda Williams, Judy Collins. “He coaxes sounds and melodies out of his instrument that literally drop jaws.” (The Calgary Herald)

Masters of Tuvan throat singing, a traditional technique for singing multiple pitches at the same time. Alash’s galloping beats, melodic strings, and other-worldly singing have been heard on stages around the globe, as well as on Grammy-winning recordings with Bela Fleck and in the renowned documentary film Genghis Blues.

A long-time Caffe staple, Jerling’s bluesy country/roots songs are filled with romance, whimsy, drama, death & keen observation of the mundane. Jerling weaves themes like a novelist, evoking our shortcomings and dreams without yielding to cynicism or sentimentality. Beautiful, rich melodies on 6 and 12-string guitar are buoyed by Teresina Huxtable on reed organ, Orion Kribs on mandolin & Izzy Reinish on guitar.

Renowned Malian kora player Sissoko is on a mission to expand awareness of West African culture. His magical, affecting performances transform traditional songs and stories he learned from his forefathers into modern day messages of peace, love, and harmony. His 21-stringed kora is joined by N’goni, a traditional guitar, the “talking drum,” calabash, and acoustic guitar.
