The earliest 8×10 in our very fat Roy Book Binder file, labeled in Lena Spencer’s handwriting. Roy has been playing our stage since the ’60s and there’s nobody who can pick guitar & tell stories about the old days like Roy does.

Greetings – At the risk of repeating myself, it’s a source of pride here at Caffe Lena that our booking formula has remained the same since 1960: hire musicians who deserve a spot on the stage based on their talent–regardless of their fame. Newcomers and legends alike get the same opportunity, hospitality and honor. Isn’t it cool that this weekend brings us a Bright Series show back to back with one of Lena’s most enduring artists, Roy Book Binder? That’s how all of us together keep this music fresh and alive as the years go by. We know where we came from–and we get to be part of creating the path forward. If you’re relatively new to Lena’s, don’t miss Roy’s show. He’s where we came from. He’ll give you a taste of the simple, homespun music is the heart and soul of Caffe Lena.

I hope you enjoy sampling this week’s line-up of shows because we certainly enjoyed getting them all set up for you!

See you at the show,

Every song is a gem! Full Moon Fever includes “Free Fallin’,” “I Won’t Back Down,” “Runnin’ Down A Dream,” “Yer So Bad” and 8 more.
A Rochmon Record Club Listening Party explores the deep, layered story of the making of a classic album. By listening together, we hear the music again for the first time.

Indie folk/pop group The Arcadian Wild combines elements of progressive bluegrass, chamber folk, and formal vocal music. There’s a candor and simplicity in their lyrics that cuts straight to the heart of things. Their celebration of community, connection, and the power of belonging feels tailor-made for these challenging times.

The Bright Series is made possible by the generous support of Kevin & Claudia Bright.

English husband-wife duo Ray Hughes and Sian Chandler weave the spirit of traditional UK folk with acoustic indie rock, reminding listeners of Steeleye Span and Fairport Convention. Their magical harmonies, sidesplitting humor and emotional authenticity have won them a loyal following on both sides of the Atlantic. “Acoustic, but with enough power and force to drive a sledgehammer.” –fRoots Magazine

If you’re new to our legendary venue, this show is a must-see. Roy takes us back to the Real Deal Caffe Lena. This six-decade veteran of the folk circuit has the stories, the licks, and sounds of America’s heritage in his fingers. His eclectic repertoire includes blues, country tunes & originals. He’s been featured on PBS, NPR’s “Fresh Air,” and is a regular teacher at Jorma Kaukonen’s Fur Peace Ranch. His one-man bluesfest has been an annual treat for Lena’s audiences since 1967.

Featuring Joel Brown (guitar) and Peter Madcat Ruth (harmonica) alongside Brubeck (bass, piano, trombone), this trio brings a rare level of joy, virtuosity & American spirit to folk, blues, jazz & classical music. “Triple Play is what jazz always was and always should be about: good-time rhythm, unbridled joy and the sweet release but bittersweet aftertaste of the blues.” –Downbeat
