Greetings – I love it when a Bright Series show and a Folk Heritage show land back to back in our schedule, as they will this week. For more than six decades, that has been the unique strength of this venue: honor those who have brought the music to this point, and fuel the success of those who are carrying it forward. Abigail Lapell (Bright Series) plays one night before Tom Rush (Folk Heritage). That’s cool. It can happen here because you show up, open up, and help songs new and old join the magic of this room. Thank you.

Turn on your speakers or don your headphones and enjoy sampling this week’s music! You’ll find serenity and grit, laughter and understanding.

See you at the show,
Sarah

This monthly showcase spotlights regional artists, who take turns playing their songs and telling stories “in the round.” Enjoy a night of all-original songs by Caffe regular Kate McDonnell, plus Seth Warden of Saratoga, and Jimi W., who wowed the crowds at last year’s Sing In the Streets and often accompanies Girl Blue. Our own Reese Fulmer will be filling in for regular host Erin Harkes, and will also share some of his own songs.

Canadian Folk Music Awards Songwriter of the Year
“Traces of Natalie Merchant, Sharon Van Etten, Frazey Ford and Sandy Denny.”
– Folk Radio UK

Her ’70s folk-rock vibe feels unhurried and other-worldly. Over the past five years, she has garnered two prestigious Canadian Folk Music Awards, hit number one on Canadian folk radio and currently has more than 350K monthly listeners on Spotify, and climbing fast. But as good as her recordings are, her live show is even better. She has wisdom and charisma that grabs your attention and doesn’t let it go.

The Bright Series is made possible by a generous gift from Kevin & Claudia Bright.

Rush helped shape the folk revival of the ’60s, the folk-rock movement of the ‘70s, and then the singer-songwriter renaissance of the ’80s and ’90s. James Taylor, Emmylou Harris, Tom Petty and Garth Brooks have cited Tom as a major influence. A natural showman, full of keen insights and a wicked sense of humor, Tom’s shows are filled with rib-aching laughter, sweet melancholy ballads & gritty acoustic blues.

The Folk Heritage Series is made possible by
the Charlie Pickett & Kathleen Rehl Endowment Fund.

Introspective folk-pop characterized by lush melodies & heartfelt storytelling. Adams has made his living as a solo artist and a session musician, playing on albums by Michael Penn, Juliana Hatfield, and Josh Groban, and forming duos eastmountainsouth and Down Like Silver, the latter with Caitlin Canty. His soothing voice, exceptional musicianship, and refined vision drive songs that verge on the philosophical and get under your skin.

Southern blues-rock guitar wizard, vocalist and songwriter is on tour with a radical new project, Naked Truth. Stripped of the electric fervor that has defined him, Ellis’ acoustic music carries a rawness that speaks directly from his soul. Timeless and immediate, No Depression says, “Ellis shines. When the tempo slows, the intensity doesn’t waver.”
