Our old pal Chandler Travis returns on Saturday with two of his favorite ensembles: The Buttercups and Channy & Johnny. Enjoy a sample of his good-humored, bittersweet brilliance by clicking that photo.
Greetings – We sure have been enjoying the company of some great audiences lately! To those of you who were here dancing to the Haitian music of Wesli, you made that a night to remember. To those who sang along with Emma Langford, you sounded beautiful. Any venue can put talented people on stage, but it takes an all-in audience to make the magic we get to experience here night after night. I want you to know that the musicians really appreciate the way you give them your undivided attention, and that’s one reason we can attract such powerhouse talent to our stage.

Along with some wonderful headliners, we have a couple free events I wanted to call to your attention. Every Monday we’re going to stream a full show from our recent archives on our YouTube channel. These YouTube Watch Parties (remember those from 2020?!) go live at 7 PM. Next, on Friday at noon we bring back the Captain Fun Lunchtime Listening Hour. This is well worth coming to! We listen to 12 songs from the vinyl collection in our lobby. These programs range from nostalgic, to educational, to illuminating. You’ll always learn something, and you’ll love the relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Coffee and admission are free. Bring a lunch and a friend!

DeWyze, winner of American Idol Season 9, is known for his soulful, raspy voice and emotive melodies that recall Simon and Garfunkel, Cat Stevens and Johnny Cash. His last four releases have garnered over 1M streams and he has earned a Billboard charting single, a #1 spot on the iTunes Folk, Singer Songwriter and Alternative charts, and his music has appeared in over 70 movies, TV shows, and commercials.

Boston’s modern more-than-bluegrass band is back with a new record that No Depression says “may be their best album yet.” The string quintet features an all-star line-up of some of the best young players on the circuit: banjo (BB Bowness), mandolin (Korey Brodsky), fiddle (Ella Jordan), acoustic guitar (Evan Murphy) and upright bass (Nate Sabat). Their lively, tender, emotionally-charged songs blend progressive bluegrass with folk-pop and rock.

Charming, eccentric showman Chandler Travis, longtime opening act for George Carlin, pairs two of his favorite new projects in this special split bill, both featuring Chandler. The Buttercups finds him getting noisy, nutty and electric with Legendary Casuals drummer Rikki Bates. Channy n Johnny shows us Chandler’s quiet, acoustic, dignified side in a duo with longtime string-bass partner John Clark.

Emceed by Kate MacDonnell, this afternoon benefit concert features Canella (alt-punk band), Jimi W. (singer-songwriter), and Iveilah (10-year-old gospel singer). They’re raising funds for March for Our Lives, an organization founded by Marjory Stoneman Douglas survivors in 2018 with a goal of inspiring youth activism and getting voters to the polls. Gun violence is now the leading cause of death for children in America. We invite you to support this student-led organization and enjoy an afternoon of great music.

Many of you ask what we’re doing to cultivate the next generation of folk music fans. We’re glad you’re thinking about this, because it shows you care not just about enjoying this venue yourself, but you want to know it’s going to thrive into the future. It’s our dream to see kids at every show, and young couples enjoying a date night. You can help by spreading the word about our toddler program, Folk Club Kids. Or our School of Music. Or our $5 student rush. People of all ages love the welcoming authenticity of Caffe Lena. Thanks for growing our community!
