Greetings – January 1 is the first day of the new year around the world, but in Haiti it’s also Independence Day, when slaves wrested control of the country from France and became the world’s first black republic. We all know that everyday life is challenging in Haiti, but national pride is strong and the arts are flourishing all across the Carribbean. To celebrate MLK Weekend, we bring you powerful and joyful black voices from Cuba, the United States and Haiti.

And we have a new series starting this weekend! The Momentum Series is made possible by a generous donation from Luann and Joe Conlon. The Conlons love feeling the whole room crackling with energy as an artist they never heard before puts on a fabulous show. They want to build momentum for these artists so the bands can come back again and again and play to a full house. What a great concept! Friday’s kick-off is sold out, but keep your eye out for the Momentum Series every month in 2024.

See you at the show,
Sarah

P.S. Checks are still rolling in for the Annual Fund Drive. We’ll have a final tally for you next week. Hint: it’s really good news!
