Greetings & Happy New Year! Let’s start with some great news. This community of good folk has set Caffe Lena up for a busy and joyful 2024. The Annual Fund Drive passed its goal, thanks to the generosity and commitment of hundreds of caring donors. We can look forward to the shows, classes and outreach work to continue unabated in the coming months. Thank you for believing in the value of this grassroots venue.
Come see us this week! We have storytelling, play readings and fresh roots music to share with you. And because you all helped us fund what we do, we can turn around and help others do what they do so well. That’s why we’re hosting a benefit for Horns for Haiti. This very effective non-profit is based out of Cole’s Woodwinds, our downstairs neighbor. Bill Cole runs this very effective project on a shoestring budget. The money that will be raised by this show is greatly needed and every penny will go straight into the project. Enjoy dinner catered by Hattie’s and a show by the fabulous New Orleans clarinetist Evan Christopher and his band–all while starting your year with a good deed.

Spearheaded by Lena’s downstairs neighbor, Cole’s Woodwind Shop, Horns for Haiti supplies instruments and mentorship to schools and small businesses in Haiti so children can have the joy of making music. This fundraiser features dinner by Hattie’s, dessert by Nothing Bundt Cakes, and a fabulous New Orleans-style jazz show with Evan Christopher & Clarinet Road.

Classical guitar prodigy, rock band leader, playwright and director, poet, and revealer of the human soul. We celebrate his life and artistry with a smashing rock show, readings and film. Proceeds benefit Caffe Lena.

Teen old-time banjoist Brown has released 4 albums, toured the world and played NPR’s Tiny Desk. Old-time fiddler Coleman is from trailblazing all-women stringband Uncle Earl. “There is a shrewd exuberance in the way Nora and Stephanie play together . . . consistent flair and an audible mastery of their instruments.” – Folk Radio UK.
