Greetings – We have a dynamic week ahead that’s designed to match the verve of Saratoga in August. Every show will get your heart pumping and your toes keeping the beat. It’s been a whole bunch of years since folk-rockers The Nields took the Caffe Lena stage. Their first appearance at the Caffe was way back in 1992 as the then-little-known Ani DiFranco‘s opening act!

We’re equally pleased to have Scotland’s Old Blind Dogs back. This is one of those shows we booked literally years ago, and kept kicking ahead on the calendar due to the mayhem of 2020-2022. Their tour is now running like clockwork and we anticipate a packed house for this fabulous quartet from the Highlands!

The second half of our weekend is a feast of blues music. Murali Coryell‘s trio ranges from romantic to political, with a whole lot of blues-rock soul in between. Rev. Peyton’s Big Damn Band is a total party from start to finish. Brash and boisterous, the Rev. never fails to get the joint jumpin’!

Enjoy these beautiful summer days, and don’t forget to save some energy to get over the Lena’s for some music!

See you at the show,
Sarah

Curated and hosted by our resident jazz master, pianist Chuck Lamb, this series features Lamb’s trio with a rotating cast of fabulous guests. This month Lamb brings us the amazing husband and wife saxophone team of Roxy Coss and Lucas Pino. Roxy won the 2022 Downbeat Critics’ Poll “Rising Star” award and has huge buzz across the industry. Pino is an in-demand sideman and winner of ASCAP’s Young Jazz Composer Award.

JAZZ at Caffe Lena is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.

The folk world has adored this sibling act since the ’90s, with their perfect harmony singing, wise words and hilarious banter. They’ve been described as equal parts The Beatles, Cranberries and Joni Mitchell. With lyrics that tackle the climate crisis, the situation at the border, and the fragility of our democracy, a message of hope pulses through each song.

An update on the traditional music of the Scottish Highlands. With influences from rock, reggae, jazz, blues, and Middle Eastern rhythms, Aberdeen’s OBD comprises four of Scotland’s finest traditional musicians at the top of their game. They play with a compelling energy and intoxicating rhythm.

The son of legendary jazz guitarist Larry Coryell, Murali plies soul-stirring vocals and remarkable guitar skills on blues, rock, funk, and jazz. He effortlessly connects with the audience, infusing each song with raw energy and improvisational prowess. “Stevie Ray Vaughn meets James Brown meets Gladys Knight.” (Poughkeepsie Journal) He’s a regular headliner at Blues Festivals across the Northeast.

Hard-chargin’, boot-stompin’ American roots. This trio lives up to their name, with thick, bass-heavy, blues-based guitar figures and growling vocals accompanied by muscular but minimal drumming and the metallic percussive scratch of a washboard.

MEMBERS’ CORNER
At a time of year when a lot of people are vacationing in Saratoga, and the shops and restaurants are packed, it’s really nice to come in from the bustling sidewalk and find . . . a bluegrass jam, or an open mic night, or a poetry reading at Caffe Lena. Thanks to the charitable support we receive from members like you,  we are able to present at least a couple programs each week that are free and open to everyone. It feels great to have fun things for local folks to enjoy in the peak of the summer season, regardless of age or income. Thanks for making this possible.Caffe Lena has nearly 1,000 active members.
