Greetings – We’re going to keep you busy this week! We’ll be learning together, listening to great shows, and heading over to SPAC for the first of our new indoor series at Spa Little Theater. Please enjoy perusing all the offerings below, and don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.

Tucked in among their reviews and concert listings this week was the first of a two-part series about my journey here at Caffe Lena as I’ve discovered ways that music changes us, gets us through hard times, and brings out the best in people. Here’s the article.

Learn how low-income folks in NYC dreamed big, fought hard and eventually won the landmark Right to Counsel (RTC) legislation guaranteeing  tenants the right to a free lawyer when facing eviction in New York City’s housing court.

Shad is a master of alluring melodies and short story songs. The Conversations blend Shad’s distinct Americana songs with early blues, jazz, and Latin influences to produce “Swinging Americana Done Right.” With drummer Bobby Kay, bassist Jeff Link, and percussionist Carlos Valdez.

They’ve sold out Caffe Lena’s intimate performance space year after year so we’re taking them to the big stage! This show kicks off our new, indoor partnership with SPAC in the Spa Little Theater!

A southern blues pairing that can’t be topped! Ball brings rollicking Texas boogies, swampy New Orleans ballads and groove-laden Gulf Coast piano blues. Blues-rock guitar wizard, vocalist & songwriter Ellis delivers molten licks, melodic riffs & memorable original songs.

As a member of Caffe Lena, you’re helping to inject health and strength into the creative economy–which we’re discovering has a powerful, wide-ranging impact locally and nationally. The NEA released it’s economic impact statement this week and it contains the surprising news that in 2021 Arts & Culture contributed 3x as much to the USA’s gross domestic product as Mining. Who coulda guessed?! That discovery reminded us of this ballad by one of the greats of our past, Jean Ritchie.
