Greetings – Two album release concerts, a fabulous jazz show, dynamite string band music from Canada — enjoy exploring the music below! Mark Erelli’s new album, Blindsided, has an especially poignant story behind it. And isn’t it cool that Sunny War got a big boost from Stephen Colbert?! This is going to be a big breakout year for her so don’t miss Saturday’s intimate show–on International Womens’ Day!

If you’re a thorough reader, you may have noticed a couple new names in that long list of staff members at the bottom of this newsletter. We’re welcoming Beth Rowen as our new Marketing & Communications Manager, and Matt Griffin as Manager of Food Service & Facilities. Both are Saratoga natives with a lifelong relationship to Caffe Lena and a passion for music that runs deep. Their talent and fresh ideas are already making us shine brighter!

A commitment to local people is the inspiration behind Art of Community, our monthly gathering for folks whose work enriches the quality of life in our fair city and beyond. Each month I interview a nonprofit leader to learn about their inspirations and hopes, how they’ve learned to lead, and how they keep believing that their work can make the world better. This month I’ll be talking with Bill Cole of Cole’s Woodwind Shop about “Horns for Haiti. It’s a remarkable organization with a story that will really impress you. I hope you’ll stop by on Tuesday afternoon for free cookies and coffee, inspiring conversation, and a chance to meet local people working to build a healthy world.

See you at the show,
Sarah

Ecstatic gospel, dusty country blues, thoughtful folk, rip-roaring rock and roll, even avant-garde studio experiments. She melds them together into a powerful statement of survival, revealing a probing songwriter who indulges no comforting platitudes and a highly innovative guitarist who deploys spidery riffs. Sunny War is poised to be a major break-out artist in 2023.
