Greetings – Think about this: we start this week’s schedule with a master of Llanero–the music of herders and plains people in Venezuela. We close our weekend on Sunday with the music of herders and plains people in Tuva, a rural corner of the Russian Federation near Mongolia. These deeply rooted traditions grew from the same hard, exciting work. You can hear hoofbeats, crackling campfires and constant travel in the rythm and melody of their music. In a world that so often feels overwhelming, what a pleasure it is to remember where we came from and what we are capable of.
Sample this week’s music (just click those photos below) and pick something wonderful to enjoy, either here in our cozy listening room, or from home via www.CaffeLena.tv.See you at the show,
Sarah

MEMBERS’ CORNER
Three long-time members of Caffe Lena’s roster passed away over the last few days. English Music Hall balladeer Greg Clarke, Vermont storyteller Tom Weakley, and country blues musician Thomasina Winslow. Thomasina first appeared on our stage as a young child with her father, blues and gospel troubadour Tom Winslow. Thomasina was scheduled to play on February 4 with her band Nite Train. The band will play without her, and we’ll share a special video tribute at intermission.
The Times Union ran this memorial piece about her.
Caffe Lena has nearly 1,000 active members. These folks are planting songs and growing community with their annual donations. They also get the best seats in the house, early access to special shows and some neat swag. Learn More
