Greetings – This past Tuesday was Giving Tuesday, as I’m sure you know. Who could miss it, with every cause you believe in, from dog rescue to free speech, colleges, folk clubs, clinics and more reminding you about this annual day of generosity. Globally, it’s estimated that $3.2 billion was donated to nonprofits on November 29, approximately $2,000 of which was received by Caffe Lena. Three years ago it was $500 million globally, and now it’s over $3 billion. It’s evident that people really do care about each other, and really do believe that they can and should play a part in alleviating all that ails us. If you find this inspiring, you may enjoy listening to the gentle voices of local nonprofit leaders talking about their work and dreams in our Art of Community series.

Caffe Lena will be filled with the best of the holiday spirit over the next few weeks. Whether you’re looking for serenity and sophistication, or a down-home jolly folk show, we’ve got a seat and a smile waiting for you.

See you at the show,
Sarah

Indian classical music on sitar (Veena) and tabla (Devesh). Meditative and redolent of nature, with roots dating back thousands of years, the Chandra’s music is a balm at a busy time of year. Veena has received top prizes in India and the US, and has passed her skills on to new generations through teaching positions at Williams College and Skidmore.

MEMBERS’ CORNER
On the first Saturday afternoon of every month we welcome families to enjoy a free, kid-friendly concert. This past weekend we saw a familiar sight: a determined grandmother coming through the door with a skeptical youngster in tow. She announced, “He’s on his video games all the time and I want him to see how much fun live music is!” For the first couple songs the boy leaned back on a couch with his arms crossed. But by the mid-point of the show, when Molly & Eben asked the audience to call out an animal, he was shouting ideas with the best of them. “Bunny! Snake! Hippopotamus!,” whereupon a (for the kids and the adults) side-splitting song ensued about a picnic with the snake eating cake and the bunny acting sunny. Thanks for helping us pass the live music tradition along to the next generation. Music helps children grow strong.

Caffe Lena has nearly 1,000 active members. These folks are planting songs and growing community with their annual donations. They also get the best seats in the house, early access to special shows and some neat swag. Learn More
