Greetings – We have a varied line-up of genuinely excellent concerts for you this week. The traditionalists among you will relish the music of Cathy & Marcy, including their afternoon show for children. If you prefer more contemporary sounds then definitely listen to the amazing Irish singer-songwriter Mick Flannery, or our Bright Series artists, Buffalo Rose. Capping off the weekend is the incredibly exciting band Qwanqwa coming to you all the way from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia!

You’ll see below that a number of these concerts are underwritten by generous sponsors, and that’s why we can bring you world-class music in the intimate setting of Caffe Lena. Thanks to the whole community for creating this wonderful space for music!

See you at the show,

The band has long been praised for their harmonies and intelligent songwriting, described by NPR as “exquisitely-arranged, literary-minded, baroque folk-pop,” and their dynamic presence (crowded tightly together onstage) have made them a live-performance favorite. This is their final show with bassist Dave Senft.

Hailing from Addis Ababa, this virtuosic band takes Ethiopian folk music forward. Powerful African vocals are backed by swirling masinko (one-stringed fiddle), wah-wah-violin, bass krar boom, and the unstoppable rhythm of kebero (goat-skin drum). After making a splash at world-renowned festivals Roskilde and WOMEX, QWANQWA is finally making their USA debut!
This concert is made possible by the generous support of the Nordlys Foundation.

MEMBERS’ CORNER
Lena’s School of Music students send a big thanks to those who came out for pancakes and bluegrass last Saturday morning. The proceeds of the event raised enough money to buy youth-size banjos. Banjos are great!
Thanks for giving kids the opportunity to fall in love with folk music.

Caffe Lena has nearly 1,000 active members. These folks are planting songs and growing community with their annual donations. They also get the best seats in the house, early access to special shows and some neat swag. Learn More
