Greetings – We appreciate everyone who walks through these doors, takes a seat or steps on stage. But we owe an extra debt of gratitude to Members. Our schedule is EXTRAORDINARY because of the underwriting support of Members. But folk music is more than great shows. It has deep roots in social justice and community organizing. A nonprofit organization like ours can and should go beyond delivering great shows, and that’s where our Members come in.
Whether it’s offering a free medical clinic for uninsured/under-insured musicians (October 23rd!!) . . .
Whether it’s getting kids together to play and sing after school . . .
Whether its offering a platform for free expression with our Little Liberty Library . . .
it’s Lena’s Members that are making good intentions into good realities.
So, you might have signed up as a Member to be first in line for the couches or the front row, but actually you’re saving the world. 🙂

During this Member Appreciation Month, members can bring unlimited guests at the member ticket price (Bring new friends! Help swell the ranks!) AND your party will get a plate of our famous chocolate chip cookies every time you come. Sweet Sept-Member!

See you at the show,
Sarah

Kat Wright has a voice that is both sultry and dynamic, delicate yet powerful, gritty but highly emotive and nuanced. Add to that voice enough stage presence to tame lions and you get total enchantment. There’s soul flowing in and out of her rock ‘n’ roll. Kat Wright (vocals), Bob Wagner (guitar) and Josh Weinstein (bass).

Singer, songwriter, guitarist, and pianist John Gorka raises goosebumps with his soulful baritone and sharp observations. Whether he’s performing a song brimming with love and loss, a keenly felt vignette about daily life, biting social commentary, or just plain old down-home humor, John displays an unerring grasp of words, melody, and the details that trigger universal understanding.

Bill Staines was a wise and gentle songwriter from New Hampshire who performed on the Caffe Lena stage more than any other performer in our 62 year history. Twice a year from 1968 to 2021, Bill would make his way back to Saratoga to sing original songs that have become universal in the folk world. Bill passed away on Sunday, December 5th, 2021. Tonight we gather in his name to keep the flame burning bright. Emcee Joe Bruchac will be presenting Reggie Harris, Taylor Whiteside (Bill’s long-time fiddler and harmony vocalist), Joy Bennett & Chris Koldewy, Vivian Nesbitt & John Dillon, and Kate Blain. Each will perform two of Bill’s songs, plus one original that connects to his legacy.

This young upstate singer-songwriter can reel you in with a soothing acoustic ballad, then tear things up on his electric Gretsch, the company that endorsed him at the age of 17. He has won the attention of major Nashville producers and 100,000+ fans on social media. Keep your eye on this emerging artist from Watertown, NY!

Sunday, September 18  / 2 – 4:15 PM
On the grounds of Grant Cottage, 1000 Mt. McGregor Rd., Gansevoort

Our friends at Grant Cottage invite us to join them “under the tent.” Grant reenactor Steve Trimm joins special guests, former congressman Chris Gibson and returned volunteers of the Peace Corps, for a program on “Grant as Peacebuilder and Public Servant” in his post military years.
Adirondack folk musician Dan Berggren will open and close the event with songs that inspire the peacemaker that dwells within each of us.
