Two super fun, hot bands in one night! Soren Staff and Beau Janke grew up in the glacier carved river valleys of the upper Midwest, otherwise known as coulees. The constant companions were branded “them coulee boys” by fellow counselors at the bible camp where they met. Joined by more brothers bringing mandolin, bass and drums, they’ve become a rollicking outfit taking the midwest by storm. Louisville, KY’s Mama Said String Band recently won the Lexington Music Awards, Best Bluegrass Band in the Appalachian Arts and Entertainment Awards & Bluegrass Artist of the Year in the Lexington Music Awards!

Veteran jazz drummer Bob Holz has worked with the likes of David Newman, Cornell Dupree, Parliament Psychedelic and regularly with Larry Coryell. He’s touring in support of a new album with studio contributions from an impressive cast, including John McLaughlin, Jean Luc Ponty, Darryl Jones, Randy Brecker, Brandon Fields and Airto Moreira. Tonight he brings to Lena’s stage a trio of Mikal Serafin on guitar and Devery Battle on bass for a couple sets of easy flowing, sometimes smooth and sometimes funky, up-tempo, melodic contemporary jazz. Highly recommended!

Her gorgeous, light, indie-folk songs are moored in deep spiritual practice & reverence for Joni, Rilke, Ken Burns, and the anonymous authors of Zen parables. A few years ago she traded a quiet, structured life as a yogi for the kinetic life of a touring musician. The core of her songwriting remains centered in curiosity about our inner world, with bouyant melodies made possible by conservatory training in classical vocal technique.

MEMBERS’ CORNER
Independent Venue Week just wrapped up. It was a 7-day celebration of small music venues around the country and a nod to the people that make them succeed–like YOU! This remains a challenging time for live music, with the rebound coming slowly. But it’s important to remember how far we’ve come. Here’s a video that will take you back to December, 2020 when we were all on lockdown and live streaming was the only way to hold our community together. Your donations, participation & cheers build the path to recovery. Thank You.
