Greetings – First, a big thank you to everyone who turned out for “Sing In the Streets,” our 62nd anniversary celebration. It’s hard to imagine what the world will be like in another 62 years, but we know that music will be part of it. Thanks to the community that sustains this iconic venue, there’s a darn good chance that Caffe Lena still will be one of the rooms where people gather to hear what’s new, celebrate what has endured, and feel the power of songs to bring us together.

The show you don’t want to overlook this week is Andy Statman and Jake Eddy on Tuesday. Diverse audiences claim mandolinist-clarinetist Statman as one their own because he’s as likely to be seen on stage with David Grisman, Itzhak Perlman, David Bromberg and Ricky Skaggs. It’s a testament to young Jake Eddy’s growing stature in the jazz and roots world that Statman is touring with him in a duo format. This is music that crosses boundaries beautifully, and is utterly virtuosic. If you’re looking from something riveting, make time in your week for this show.

See you at the show,
Sarah

Annie & the Hedonists transport us back to an age when heartache, boozing, and all sorts of romantic mayhem amounted to one big stylish adventure. From the gospel-rock of Sister Rosetta Tharpe to the high-lonesome bluegrass of Claire Lynch and the irresistible swing of Fats Waller, the torchy, honey voice of Annie Rosen takes center stage. Super-tight backing provided by husband Jonny Rosen on guitar, Peter Davis on clarinet, Don Young on bass and Jerry Marotta on drums.

Matt Lorenz, AKA The Suitcase Junket, builds his instruments from scratch and salvage. Music that sounds like it’s made by five players, he performs alone. The spectacle of his one-man set bears constant comparison to legends of showmanship, brilliance, madness, and invention. His sound is raucous, bluesy Americana and his shows pack the house.
