Greetings – It’s hard to believe another week has flown by. We find ourselves arriving at the month of May, a special month at Caffe Lena because we’ll mark another anniversary. It was decades ago that Caffe Lena became the longest running folk music coffeehouse in the country, and that’s an honor we intend to hang onto!

In order to keep the membership growing to support the growth in audience, programming and community service, we set a challenging goal each May: one new member for each year of Lena life. That’s 62 this year! So, get ready: if you have been thinking about membership, May is the month to do it. The benefits are great for you, and even greater for the artists and audiences who have gathered in this special room every week, year round, for the last 3,224 weeks.

Gratitude to every one of you who has given something–applause, your volunteer labor, an album purchase, and especially a membership donation–to keep this community strong so very long.

See you at the show,
Sarah

P.S. Boot up your best headphones and listen the music samples below. This week’s line-up is amazing!

This Quebec band delivers raw, honest poetry set to the melody of blues, folk and gospel. Comprising five seasoned musicians, all of whom are songwriters, they carry on like a band of brothers on stage and off. Fronted by vocalist Kevin Harvey backed by electric guitars, acoustic bass & drums. Really solid band with a lot of charm!

Will Evans (of Barefoot Truth)
In-person Tickets
Watch on Caffe Lena TV

After four albums and 50+ million streams on Pandora & Spotify with his roots-rock band Barefoot Truth, Evans is touring solo. A uniquely creative and multi-talented artist, Will’s incredible show embraces didgeridoo, steel drums, percussive beatboxing, acoustic guitar, and layers of soulful vocals looped live. A lifelong surfer and environmentalist, his lyrics speak to the importance of connecting with—and protecting—the earth. At a time when so many are looking for words of inspiration and reassurance, his songs deliver messages of family, love, hope, and inclusion.

Their songwriting is strong and their indie folk-rock sound is captivating. TEOA resonates with fans of The Avett Brothers, CSNY and Darlingside. “Classic songwriting and tight harmonies provide a perfect example of what’s possible through collaboration and unity.” (Songwriting Magazine UK)

MEMBERS’ CORNER
One of the most important purposes of your membership is to give this venue the resources to take chances on new musicians. In the month of May there are six first-timers. In June there are eight. This level in investment in new music is rare among folk venues, and you can be sure that it’s the key to our longevity and popularity. If our community didn’t keep growing the roster, not only would we dwindle into obscurity, we’d miss all the amazing new music being made! Sometimes, we get really lucky. We booked a first-timer named Alex Cuba for June 9. Well, lo and behold, Alex just won the GRAMMY for Best Latin Pop Album! Good call, Caffe Lena! 🙂 Our history is long, but our future is longer–thanks to your support.

Caffe Lena has nearly 1,000 active members. These folks are planting songs and growing community with their annual donations. They also get the best seats in the house, early access to special shows and some neat swag. Learn More
