Greetings – This past weekend with Janis Ian felt, dare I say, like the pre-pandemic Caffe Lena of 2019. Each night the house was full and the energy was jubilant. The only difference is that now we have another several dozen households joining in via CaffeLena.tv from across the country (and beyond!) because we’ve all learned how to do that. In case you missed last week’s message, CaffeLena.tv has gotten easier thanks to the launch of new apps for iOS, Android and Roku. We hope this makes your viewing experience almost as good as sitting in the front row at Caffe Lena.

Regarding Covid protocols, as rates of serious complications remain low, and with nearly all area businesses having dropped their vax and mask requirements, and Broadway dropping theirs shortly, we’ve decided to end our vax checks on May 1. Masks will continue to be optional for audience members. Please bear in mind that performers must avoid infection at all costs because even a mild Covid case stops the tour. No hugs and handshakes. Wear a mask near them. Our fully-vaccinated staff will be masked back stage for the sake of the artists. Thank you to all who have been patient and cooperative so we can get to this long-awaited milestone.

See you at the show,
Sarah

Poppy, poetic singer-songwriter Bitch came on the scene as one half of the queer folk duo Bitch & Animal, serving as Ani DiFranco’s opening act, and sharing stages with the Indigo Girls. She has reemerged as a solo artist, making danceable string and synth songs that are spectral, heartbreaking, political, and beautiful.

Christine Lavin
In-person tickets
Watch on Caffe Lena TV
Lavin pokes fun at the ills of society, contemporary culture and, of course, herself. But don’t be fooled by all the laughter! She’s an acute observer of the human condition. Tucked inside her side-splitting lyrics, on-stage pranks and impish grin is often a sincere story with a valuable message. Her latest solo album, her 25th, ON MY WAY TO HOOTERVILLE, includes 10 new songs.

“Lovely fresh harmonies and a secret cache of original songs.”
-Linda Ronstadt-
“At times it reminds me of Ian and Sylvia, only 60 years newer, 100% as soulful and seriously as simple as the folk process itself.”
-Don Armstrong-
We met this remarkable duo when they served as Don Armstrong’s backing band for his annual Caffe Lena show last fall. They’re coming to us all the way from Arizona. Liz’s rich emotive voice with Pete’s haunting harmonies and rich guitar arrangements captivate the mind and tug at the heart.

MEMBERS’ CORNER

That’s the new Caffe Lena School of Music 1/2-size bass! The teachers took it out of its case for the first time last week and asked if anyone wanted to give it a try. The rafters shook a little with the chorus of MEEEEE!!!! The kids want to thank you for supporting the Pancake Breakfast which raised the money to buy this beautiful instrument.  Thanks to the generosity of donors like you, the Caffe Lena School of Music is able to welcome and equip all students regardless of their ability to pay

Caffe Lena has nearly 1,000 active members. These folks are planting songs and growing community with their annual donations. Learn More
