Greetings – Why are so many of this week’s musicians wearing sunglasses? Could it be that the sun is starting to come out?! It’s not going to happen all of a sudden, but the day is coming when the seats will be full, the audience will feel safe, and artists will return to normal touring. Thanks to your devotion to keeping live music alive, one day we’ll “laugh at the darkness and dance until dawn, when all of hard days are gone!” (Kevin McKrell)

This weekend’s line-up is pure sunshine! We’ve got the earthy grit of Eilen & Jerry, the acoustic splendor of Sten & Maria, the great vibes of Professor Louie, and inspiring uplift from Cassandra Kubinski who wants to remind us that our story is long. Not only is it not over yet, it just might turn out ok (click her photo up top).

American Songwriter magazine describes Idaho singer-songwriter Eilen Jewell as “one of America’s most intriguing, creative and idiosyncratic voices.” Her singular voice is by turns personal and political, pissed off and blissed out. Guitarist Jerry Miller, a modern legend of country, rockabilly, jazz & surf, has been at her side since 2005. We’ve had a lot of great shows this month, and this one is a highlight.

Splitting her time between NYC and now Saratoga, Cassandra is a two-time Billboard Heatseeker and popular TV & film composer whose voluptuous pop music earned her these words from Billy Joel: ”Cassandra Kubinski is very similar to the singer/songwriters of the late 70s; she proves that the genre can still be transcendent.”

Andy Cohen performing outdoors at the Children’s Museum, 10-21-21

Do you remember your first concert? We’re excited that, thanks to “Caffe Lena On the Road,” the first concert for these little ones featured folksongs that span the generations. Ruth Crawford Seeger wrote about an evening with Carl Sandburg and his family: “He sat there in the lamplight, singing song after song, simply, sometimes wildly, sometimes mournfully, his understanding voice winding in and out among the irregular nuances and accompanied by the stray chords on his guitar. His youngster sitting opposite with sleep-heavy eyes glued on his face, now and then crooning in drowsily on a song that she knew.”

Your membership support sets the stage for memories to be made. Thank you.
